4 years ago today I found out I was having a baby boy - Wasn’t expecting it after 2 girls but the surprises didn’t end there .... •When we find out we’re expecting we picture a tiny bundle of joy who grows and develops as they should (or ahead of time) We assume they’ll be healthy, just a few coughs and colds to deal with and we assume we’ll have the perfect family who go on outings and celebrate various festivities together! I assumed all of these things • I did have a tiny bundle of joy but the rest hasn’t really gone how I thought it would, I wasn’t prepared to have a little boy stuck in the mind of a 6-9 month old at almost age 4, I wasn’t prepared for the copious hospital appts/assessments/visits, I wasn’t prepared to turn down social events as my little boy can’t cope, I wasn’t prepared for seeing my little boy have no clue it’s his birthday ... and so much more •Memories like these are bitter sweet but I love having a little boy who does what makes him happy, he’s not bothered what other people think of him and he never gives up. I may not have been prepared for the life we have but my little boy is exactly who he’s meant to be and being his mum is a privilege

A huge thank you to @mrsgifletcher for sharing this on her Insta stories.

It makes a massive difference to tiny charities like ours when well known people post about us.

@icpsupport works so very hard to raise awareness of ICP (intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy) but it's not easy so when someone as well known as Giovanna mentions us it means more women can be aware of the condition and find us to get the best information there is about this complex but potential devastating condition of pregnancy.

Thank you Giovanna ❤

🧩 4 1/2 hour meditation meeting today with judge,  mediator, & planning team to resolve open issues before going to Fair Hearing. 🧩 The judge and mediator were awesome - compassionate and swift in offering solutions. 🧩 Our focus was to communicate how first line responses to requests could/ should be handled in order to maintain a healthy working environment.  We talked about frustrations and how to move forward with a fresh start. 🧩 Our goal was to walk away with a sense of peace.  Peace with the team of people that we have to interact with as we work to keep Graham successful.  Special needs families often feel isolated and need supportive allies - not adversaries.  God allowed us to have that peace today.  So grateful and now even more enthusiastic for the future of Graham's program.

This is a semi-confronting topic but I’m a big believer in raising self-awareness

Unfortunately, we are susceptible to conditioning in this sport

Sometimes that can lead to unhealthy habits & thought patterns...
.
FULL BLOG IN BIO
Swipe to see how to access from bio link!

I did want to share how you can notice conditioning when it’s happening, stop it, & do something about it though

Have your own positive belief systems in place to combat that of others so when it is presented to you it is questioned before accepted

Celebrate ALL the things. Find the good in everything. Then focus your energy onto actions that make YOU feel good, healthy, empowered. Not the shoulds in your life

Think critically about the things you read & what people say. Just bc your fav influencer is doing it doesn’t mean you should

Be objective in the way you describe things. No emotion means no positive or negative reinforcement. Think like a doctor as you describe your body, weight, food, choices, etc outloud or in your own head

Commit time everyday to yourself & what you truly value. Step away from the internet!! Gain perspective. What bubble are you in? How is it impacting your worldview? Reflect often

Look at your current behaviors & beliefs. Which came from reinforcements? What can you now choose to learn, believe, & do?

Stop perpetuating it within your bubble. As a competitor I do my best not to perpetuate positive reinforcements of dropping weight w/o also connecting it to how I feel or function. I do my best not to place a way of eating on a hierarchy over another. I do my best not to entertain conversations about ‘the right way’. I also respect others opinion & my own

Remember that at the end of the day you can change your brain. So whatever’s happened up in that head of yours you can remold. Our brain is plastic but that mean it’s going to instantly take on a new form To create new neural pathways you have to commit to new ways of believing, living, speaking, etc. You‘ll have to stop yourself in your tracks more often than you flow down the lazy river. If it’s happening on autopilot, QUESTION IT

I don’t care what anyone says this whole parenting thing is the hardest bloody gig anyone will have to do in their life. For me it’s never been physically or mentally hard and the whole emotional hardship never hit me...until recently. For me, the emotional hardship is not personal but rather a reflection of the emotional hardship my beautiful brown eyed, quirky & clever little girl has been going through. I never experienced bullying or ever felt ostracised or left out when I was at school. To be honest it probably did happen but I never acknowledged it because I’ve always been happy with my own company and separated myself from negative people and nasty behaviour #aintnobodygottimeforthat unfortunately my gorgeous chicken didn’t inherit that trait from me and as such continues to surround herself with other kiddies who don’t truly appreciate the smart, funny & quirky person she is. Having to console her most nights and try to explain why people choose to be mean, while wiping tears from her eyes as she sobs on my chest. Holding me tight as if she never wants to let me go. Never wants to go back. Never wants to leave her safe place. Is the hardest & most challenging thing a parent can go through! It’s tolling on Avah as much as it is on Jared and I. Constantly worried your child is accepted and happy is such a terrible feeling that no parent let alone child should have to go through. Everyone should be looking to find the positives in each other. Identifying the good traits in people and being happy for others when they are happy! This is what I teach my year 2 class on a daily basis and what I’ve reiterated to my own daughter since she was little. I really hope this is something that all parents try to teach their children. Kindness over everything else #itmightjustsavealife .

I am going to be embarking on a new project, a series of photos on my Instagram called 'the Grey area'. which will be self portraits. These will be uploaded and numbered in no specific order completely randomised. .
🎭
I will be using this new series to tell my story.
The aim will be to help raise awareness towards various symptoms of BPD (Borderline Personality Disorder). The order will represent the shifts and changes in my own BPD. I will be using the series as a method to journal my emotions and thoughts.
🎭
. ⚠️Disclaimer⚠️: ⚠️This new series of photographs will be purely emotive for creative expression, thus will not be designed to aid anyone having a manic or depressive episode. ⚠️These photographs and captions will not be representative of every case of BPD and are completely unique to my own experience. ⚠️This series will not be designed to diagnose, or pigeon hole anyone's symptoms. ⚠️The future posts within the series will not contain trigger warnings but will be easily identified by the mask emojis next to the name and number at the top of the post ( 🎭 ). I will continue a regular upload schedule for my usual photographs and posts. This new series will be posted in between those uploads.
⚠️I will be adding links to charities and BPD projects that I support within my captions for those of you who wish to connect and aid the fight against stigma. even though I am not affiliated with those charities, I believe in creating real change with actions not just making myself a 'keyboard warrior' however all kind comments and messages will be greatly appreciated for those who want to connect. .
🎭
I will likely loose many followers by opening up about this but at the end of the day if one person reads my story and can relate and not feel so alone then my goal is achieved.

IBD Remicade Infusion Q&A. It's been almost 10 years since my first infusion and I am grateful every.six.weeks 💉(Remicade is given through an iv not syringe but I didn't see an iv emoji). Let's start the Q&A...people often ask... Do I feel anything during my 2- 2.5 hour drip? Nope. Just wonky from the iv benedryl I am given as a pre-med to reduce the risk of having any reactions.

Have I ever had a reaction? Yes. I broke out in hives, not severely. They stopped the infusion and gave me benadryl. This was the first time I had to have benadryl. From then on I have been fine 🤞🤞 Do I go to the hospital to get my infusion?
While some are done in hospitals there are alot of infusion clinics. I usually get my done at Niagara Peninsula Arthritis Centre in St. Catharines and have gone to Hamilton clinic as well.
How do I feel after my infusion? Ever since the first time (even without the benadryl) I feel a bit groggy and have always gone home to nap!

Do I feel different when I wake up from my nap? After receiving the benadryl I used to always wake up feeling like I have a brick in my stomach for whatever reason and had to wait a few hours to eat. However, since working at #Pma_co with @fonthilliv I have had a vitamin injection a day or two prior to my infusion and feel so much better 🙌
Obviously speak to your family physician, gastroenterologist or naturopathic doctor before beginning anything new.

Mason you are forever my Guardian Angel. My heart is shattered into a million little pieces. Every organ in my body aches. This is quiet honestly the darkest place I’ve ever been. I am trying to find the light and reasoning behind why things like these happen but the truth is there’s no explanation. No mother and father should ever have to experience this kind of tragedy, or this amount of pain. Life can be so cruel and unfair. It pains me to wake up every morning and realize this isn’t a dream it’s my reality. I went back and fourth in my head about how I wanted to share Mason’s story. I want to celebrate his life and the time we got to spend with him. I want his story to be remembered as a beautiful one and not a tragic one. I want the awareness of what he had to be heard. That is my promise to you Mason. If I can help just ONE other mother or family to not have to ever experience this pain by bringing awareness to the world of this rare disease I will be at peace. Your life had a purpose.
⠀⠀
Mason was born with a very rare and extremely severe metabolic disease associated with the Urea Cycle Disorder, his official results and diagnoses are still being tested. His ammonia levels were the highest the doctors had seen. He is 1 in the 56,000 babies affected. You never think things like this could happen to you. The truth is, it can happen to anyone. Bringing awareness to how this rare genetic disease could possibly be prevented is my mission. This is for you Mason. We love you too the moon & back. Forever and always, you will never be forgotten. .

Here is the story behind my dress for everyone asking ❤️. ONE WEEK OUT from the Miss Universe 2019 Nz Grand Final and I was brainstorming with my Aunty Mahinaarangi Smith and Aunty Heidi Waitere about a dress for the night.

Aunty Mahinaarangi is a gun at Korowai.
Aunty Heidi is a gun at dress making.
Me? Well I’m a gun at wearing dresses I think😂🤦🏽‍♀️.
Put us all together than BOOOOOM!!!! ❤️🖤❤️🖤
“Mā pango, mā whero ka oti ai te mahi”

The kaupapa I wanted to represent through my dress was Ihumātao and Maunga Kea.

The kaupapa of being KAITIAKI for our whenua and our culture, not only for Māori but all indigenous people.
#protectorsnotprotesters
What better way to fight this battle with our Atua RONGO, just by walking around and taking photos was the hugest STATEMENT ever! #tinorangatiratanga

Our koha to the kaupapa!

What better way to fight this battle with our Atua RONGO, just by walking around and taking photos was the hugest STATEMENT ever! #tinorangatiratanga

    Our koha to the kaupapa!
