English Version ⤵️
(credit @wildaid)

There’s been a lot of talk in the media about pangolins and the novel strain of coronavirus. Nothing has been confirmed yet. However, long before this outbreak, scientists thought pangolins could be a good candidate to be an intermediate host for a virus. 〰️
They are more likely to become hosts when pangolins are captured and smuggled for thousands of miles, often without food and water. 〰️
If left alone in the wild, the shy, docile pangolin is a harmless creature filling an important ecological niche, consuming some 70 million insects per year. During one of the arrests, the owner of a Chinese ship was confiscated 10 tons of pangolin meat. 〰️
Today, on pangolin protection day, I urge everyone to unite in the fight against the destruction of our wildlife, not only Asian, but any other. This #WorldPangolinDay, let’s pledge to protect pangolins (credit @wildaid ). . . 📸 @pablo.original .

It’s World Pangolin Day this weekend! We made these commissioned toothbrushes for a team that rescued and cared for an orphaned baby pangolin that was found along a mountain bike trail in a Singapore nature park last year 💚 May that baby pangolin (nicknamed Pango-baby by her caretakers and eventually released) grow up safe and strong! 🙏🏽 Pangolins have been called the “world’s most trafficked mammal” — so unfair that any animal is trafficked at all! 😞 in Southeast Asia, we have Sunda pangolins. In Singapore, they are mainly found in the Central Catchment Nature Reserve and Bukit Timah Nature Reserve. They can also be found in forested areas in Bukit Batok, the Western Catchment Area, and on Pulau Ubin and Pulau Tekong. Lucky you if you ever saw one (sometimes they wander into residential spaces), but luckier yet if we manage to keep enough green spaces for our precious wildlife to exist away from human interference 🙏🏽 (For the record, my favourite native animal is the tapir but pangolins are a close second!)

Yesterday was world pangolin day. The population is decreasing but they are still traded. The demand for pangolins comes mostly from China, where pangolin scales are unfortunately believed to be a cure-all of sorts and pangolin flesh is considered a delicacy. In Vietnam, pangolins are frequently offered at restaurants catering to wealthy patrons who want to eat rare and endangered wildlife. There is no evidence to support claims regarding medicinal properties of pangolin scales or any other part of the pangolin. (src: https://www.pangolins.org) #worldpangolinday

Yesterday was #worldpangolinday! These ancient scaly mammals are unique and rare. There is fossil evidence of Pangolins dating back 80 million years!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
There are eight species of pangolin - four native to Africa and four native to Asia. All eight of the pangolin species are protected - two of them are endangered and two are critically endangered.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Pangolins use their tongues to pull ants, termites and larvae into their toothless mouths. They don't fight to defend themselves—when threatened they roll into a ball and wait out the danger. For most predators that is enough of a defense, but for humans it just makes them easy to poach. 🐱

Repost from SAVE THE ENDANGERED PANGOLINS
@leonardodicaprio using @RepostRegramApp - A pangolin’s natural defense is to roll into a ball when threatened, which is why they’re such easy targets for wildlife traffickers. Today on #WorldPangolinDay, I'm supporting the @PangolinCrisis team with their #RollWithUs campaign to protect these gentle creatures from the trafficking crisis that is putting them at risk of extinction. Share this post to help raise awareness for pangolins and follow @PangolinCrisis for more information.

The most trafficked animal. Up to £500,000 a kilo. The scales are nothing more than keratin like our fingernails and yet it’s POSSIBLE the trade of this species has led to the current coronavirus epidemic. It’s world pangolin day but most of us will never see one💔

Today is World Pangolin Day | We have a dedicated collection “Nocturnal Shield” inspired by these incredible creatures in the hope of raising awareness and appreciation | Pangolins represent the world’s most trafficked mammal, with over a million pangolins disappearing into the Asian trade over the last ten years. Pangolin scale seizures have been huge in recent years, with a pattern that seems to suggest it is superseding ivory as a business for traffickers. Recent findings by Chinese researchers have established that pangolins carry viruses that are closely related to 2019-nCoV, the current coronavirus. Two researchers at South China Agricultural University in Guangzhou suggest the pangolin is a potential source of 2019-nCoV, based on a genetic comparison of coronaviruses taken from the animals and from humans infected in the outbreak. The sequences are 99% similar. China is already addressing the illegal pangolin trade; as of January, the country’s national insurance program no longer covers medicines containing pangolin products. Now with the evidence that pangolins could be a vector for the current outbreak, China is seriously reconsidering its wildlife consumption. Given the ongoing cost of this outbreak, this may be one of the few silver linings. #pangolins #virus #WorldPangolinDay #conservation #endangeredspecies #repost @natgeo

15 lutego to Światowy Dzień Pangolina (Łuskowca).

Yesterday was World Pangolin Day.⠀
⠀
Pangolins are becoming increasingly well known, but not for a good reason. These gentle creatures are said to be the most trafficked wild animal in the world.⠀
⠀
Pangolins are nocturnal animals that feast on insects and are highly sought after for their supposed, but unproven, medicinal benefits, and as a culinary delicacy. ⠀
⠀
There are eight species of pangolins. Four are found in Asia (Chinese, Sunda, Indian, and Philippine) and they're listed by the IUCN as critically endangered. The four African species (ground pangolin, giant pangolin, white-bellied, and black-bellied) are listed as vulnerable. Pangolin numbers of all species are rapidly declining in both Asia and Africa because of illegal trade.⠀
⠀
The demand for pangolins comes mostly from China, where pangolin scales are unfortunately believed to be a cure-all of sorts and pangolin flesh is considered a delicacy. In Vietnam, pangolins are frequently offered at restaurants catering to wealthy patrons who want to eat rare and endangered wildlife.⠀
⠀
For many years, the Asian species were the primary target of poachers and traffickers, but since their numbers are significantly lower, smugglers are increasingly turning to African pangolins. In two record-breaking seizures in the space of a week in April 2019, Singapore seized a 14.2 ton shipment and a 14 ton shipment of pangolin scales from an estimated 72,000 pangolins.⠀

Now #worldpangolinday is over, back to the normal daily routine, which includes bottle-feeding the babies, including this baby Campbell's monkey! She get round the clock care from our great caregivers! ❤️🐒 Please note that monkeys are not pets! All the monkeys at the sanctuary are orphans and were victims of the illegal bushmeat and pet trade. Because they are so young, they need constant care.

In honour of #worldpangolinday here’s my crochet pangolin Jane. This is an @toft_uk pattern and it’s my absolute favourite pattern as it’s so different to others I have done. I had to follow the pattern so closely for the scales, but I really enjoyed the challenge. The first pangolin was made in @toft_uk dk stone yarn which is so lovely to use. The second was some acrylic yarn from my huge stash, I adore the colour change in the scales and how it stands out with the navy. .

Yesterday marked World Pangolin Day; an opportunity to raise awareness for these wonderfully unique mammals and their threat as the most trafficked wild animal in the world. 🌍

Not only is the pangolin Christopher's favourite animal, it also served as our AW19 tenth anniversary mascot. It stands as a symbol for our Off-Cut Animal Workshops where all proceeds are donated to @WWF_UK; the world’s leading independent conservation organisation.

Native to Asia and Africa, their scales allow it to roll into a defensive posture, highlighting a vulnerability and unique sense of protection. With an integrated approach and people's generous support, we can help save pangolins and our planet’s vanishing biodiversity.

Do you know #Pangolins are the most trafficked mammal on planet. Unharmful & shy but still millions are hunted & trafficked across Asia & Africa. All eight species of them are under threat for their use in medicines. It is #WorldPangolinDay for raising awareness.

It’s World Pangolin Day! But the news isn’t good for these beloved creatures. Two African species have sadly just been pushed into the “endangered” status on the IUCN Red List. We can’t let them go extinct on our watch! The time to take action is NOW.

⚠WARNING GRAPHIC IMAGES⚠ Today is #worldpangolinday so please share this URGENT post about this critically endangered animal with your followers and tag people who need to see it because not only did they possibly create the deadly coronavirus, they are known as the guardians of the forest since they protect trees by eating up to 20,000 ants and termites per day using their long, sticky tongues! Sadly, they are currently the most heavily trafficked mammal in the world so by killing them, eating them/putting them in soups and using their scales for medicine (which is crazy since their scales have ZERO medical value, they are made of keratin, just like rhino horn and human fingernails) and taking them out of nature where they belong, we ignorant humans are planting the seeds of our future destruction. We MUST stop poaching/eating these poor defenseless animals RIGHT NOW to avoid the creation of anymore deadly viruses that kill so many innocent people and these pangolins are key to saving our forests worldwide so please share this URGENT post with your followers and tag people, celebrities, influencers and news media that need to see this and let’s work together to #savethepangolins

Today is World Pangolin Day.
•
The subject of global media in recent weeks having been identified as a potential host of the coronavirus, this scaly creature is said to be the most trafficked species in the world.

In parts of China where traditional medicine practices are still carried out, Pangolin scales are used to create medicines used for a range of ailments. In 2019 Chinese authorities seized a 10-ton shipment of pangolin scales - the largest to date.

Similarly pangolins are consumed and fall under the category of bush-meat, which is why the species have been identified as a potential cause of the global outbreak of the coronavirus.

This little animal faces a lot of plight, but is also gaining more support than ever before.

Chinese authorities have responded positively to calls from wildlife conservation organisations to crack down on the illegal trade of pangolins. Since August last year, medicine made from pangolin scales is no longer covered by Chinese medical insurance.

Conservation organisation @wildnetorg have set up the @pangolincrisis with the goal of eliminating the demand, trafficking, and poaching crisis that puts all eight species of pangolins at risk of extinction.

Following the outbreak of the coronavirus, wildlife conservation organisations the world over have called for a global ban on wildlife trafficking. This growing pressure brings hope for the pangolin, and the reaction of the Chinese authorities in recent months demonstrates movement in the right direction.

In the meantime, we at UPROAR will do our bit to raise awareness about these animals - and celebrate them on their day today!

412/730, Number four hundred and twelve from our 730 Days of miniature Nature art ~ Indian Pangolin.. Today on world pangolin day we have made this little guy to spread some love and support to him as we all know that these wonderful creatures are the most trafficked animal of all and the reasons for it are utterly stupid and absurd.. We really don’t understand that when we humans will know how to leave in a harmony with our other fellow beings.. We hope this little piece of art will make you smile and encourage you to do whatever you can to save our wonderful planet from this plague called “Greed”.. .

The Indian pangolin, thick-tailed pangolin, or scaly anteater (Manis crassicaudata) is a pangolin found on the Indian subcontinent. It is not common anywhere in its range. Like other pangolins, it has large, overlapping scales on its body which act as armour. It can also curl itself into a ball as self-defence against predators such as the tiger. The colour of its scales varies depending on the colour of the earth in its surroundings

We hope this little piece of art will make you smile and encourage you to do whatever you can to save our wonderful planet from this plague called “Greed”.. .

Happy World Pangolin Day!!🥰 aside from the cool scaled look, the face of a wise old man and badass claws, did you know that its tongue can actually be longer than its body when fully extended?👅 #worldpangolinday #pangolin #scales
