WHERE DO YOU DRAW THE LINE WITH EXERCISE … how much is TOO MUCH?
—
As you guys know, a big part of our content creation involves reviewing studios, so working out frequently very much comes with our territory. An average week for us includes about 4-5 active days - and we consider this to be a substantial amount (important to note: we love working out, but it IS also a part of our job). That being said, we try to prioritize rest days when our bodies (or minds!) need them … there has to be room for life to happen & we don’t believe in a strict schedule.

However - having the majority of our days take place in this NYC workout *bubble* can sometimes put us in an unrealistic mindset, making us occasionally feel like our routine isn’t enough (this is crazy, WE KNOW). But if we’re being totally transparent - we do have moments where we start doubting our body’s need for a rest day, or feeling like we didn’t push ourselves hard enough during class. This culture is one that normalizes an excess of everything, and encourages pushing yourself to the point of exhaustion … the ‘no pain, no gain’ mentality. It’s not uncommon for us to see our peers cranking out 2+ workouts a day … from a Flywheel class straight into Flybarre, doubling up on SoulCycles and so forth. While everyone has a unique workout journey, we are firm believers that life shouldn’t just be about fitness - it’s simply not sustainable (or good for your body!). What we’ve learned over time: it is so, so important & necessary to take a step back if you find yourself getting into an ‘over exercise’ mindset. Comparing yourself to an unrealistic workout standard is harmful in a lot of ways - & this kind of mentality doesn’t leave room for just LIVING your life. AND, TBH: 1 great workout over 3 days time can actually give you better results than jamming 3 workouts into a day. More does not always equate to better, faster results!
