...but I'm alive! I gained weight with all the steroids I needed during chemo since i needed extra steroids. Nausea etc was extensive. Then they found I had a slight stroke about 2 years afterward and subsequent lack of balance causing me to fall at times...which seems to be on my right knee mostly. So drinking 1 tbsp of LBC morning and night just didn't seem like it would work! Well I was wrong! Within 2 weeks I found a difference. I was amazed and on top of the reduced pain, I was able to go up and down stairs alot easier! Then I tried the Lean Body Sculpting System. I figured I could finally lose weight. I started along with walking more since I felt great! Then I got hit with my heart not appreciating my efforts! So I continued to take my LBSS but couldn't really walk or exercise.....but I'm still losing weight and inches...slowly but better than eating salads and not losing. Today..Oct 1st, besides the loss of some weight, the loss of pain, the increase in knee repair....I am now using less than 1/2 of my pain meds and acid reflux...and still reducing more....with my doctor's approval! He is hoping I will be totally off them by end of Nov. All because of my Collagen products!

#healthupdate I left my healing retreat yesterday in Sri Lanka, and I thought I would show some before and after photos. The first photo is today and the psoriasis on my arm. The redness has significantly reduced and the skin has healed a lot to become quite smooth! The second photo was taken right before I left, you can see the redness and the patches. They said I have too much fire in my system, so I was on herbs and calming foods to reduce the “fire” or pita in my system, which makes sense, because it definitely doesn’t look so red and angry as it was in the second photo. Psoriasis is the root cause of the psoriatic arthritis, so lots of effort was put into managing that, in hopes the arthritis would follow out the door. The third and forth photos are the before and after for my feet, there is clearly definition and so much of the swelling is gone that they now function properly. Currently, my main focus will be on gaining muscle by stretching the ankles, yoga practice, and doing lots of movements within the feet. Walking barefoot on uneven surfaces like grass and sand will help to continue to build strength and flexibility. The sixth and seventh pictures are my hands. They have been the slowest and most painful to heal, but the pictures don’t do justice to the progress that’s been made. They move better, they can grab and pull better, but still have a ways to go. This is all thanks to the herbs, yoga, yoga teachers, meditation, introspection, prayers, healthy vegan food, and the guidance and information from my Ayurvedic doctors. I can’t speak highly enough of the care I was given. The doctors tried everything in they’re power, including increased treatments up to 4 hours a day, meals, changes in my natural, herbal medicine, and constantly checking up on my health and wellbeing. I will rave about @plantationvilla for the rest of my life. They have taken away my western anti-inflammatories that I’ve been on for 20 years and given me an unmediated and healthier body and mind. While I still can’t snap my fingers, I’m improving my dance steps. 😉

🙌💡💓⭐ @sovereign.roots.apothecary : "Just because I am smiling and look "presentable" in regards to our cultures societal expectations doesn't mean my pain or sickness dissappear. In fact on some of my hardest days I dress up the most because it makes me feel better. Also, just for education purposes asking the following questions or commenting isn't helpful and pretty harmful. Esp as I have been a healthy organic eating herbalist who has always been active and is literally trying everything to feel better and get through the day:
Person: "You look better"
Feels like:
I don't feel better and you dont really want to know how I am.
Instead say:" You look better but how are you actually doing"
Person: "You should try X,Y and Z"
Feels like: I am not doing enough to take care of myself and it is my fault.
Instead say: "I am here to support you in any way you need. Can I pick something up for you? Or make you a meal?"

Person: "If you really start healing your trauma and wounds you might start healing"
*
Feels like:
I am not spiritual enough or healed enough otherwise I wouldn't be sick. Undermines all of the spiritual growth I have walked through for the last 20 years and makes me feel worse.
Instead say: nothing *
Person: " Sounds like a dream, which I could stay home and watch Netflix all day and work from home"
Why thats problematic: Most days it can feel like I am trapped and very isolated not only at home but in this very strange bodily experience. Esp because every night I've had 3-4 hours of sleep & am awake from 1am-6am from bladder pain flares. The amount of energy it takes to just get out of bed, shower, eat & wash dishes is a lot & quickly exhausting. Which is not something I wish for anyone. I love to be home & cozy but not all the time & certainly not in pain and fatigue.
Instead say: "I can't imagine what you are experincing but I'd love to hear more about it & how life has changed for you"
And lastly... *
Person: "At least its not_________(fill in the blank)
Why this is problomatic:
Because PAIN is PAIN is PAIN and to make comparisons to anyone else's or any other illness is totally not okay.
Instead say: nothing & listen deeply. 💕"

How to Exercise if you have Knee Arthritis

A common question I receive from patients with knee osteoarthritis is how can they exercise. Meaning if they're having pain, what can they actually do to continue to stay physically active. There are two aspects to question and problem. The first is if a goal is to stay significantly functionally active and physically active, then whatever physical activity you can do that is not causing pain in the knee, you should absolutely continue to do.
Number two it is really important to keep in mind that you want to be cautious and yet deliberate when it comes to physical activity when you have knee arthritis. Cautious in the sense that if there are activities that cause more than a 2 out of 10 level of pain in the knee, you want to make sure you're not doing too much of that because it may actually be causing more damage and problems. Adjustments may involve modifying your activity level by reducing the level of weight, difficulty, or duration. It may also mean altering your activity to something that does not require so much strain on the knee. Or lastly it may require changing your technique and the manner in which you are doing that activity.
Being deliberate about your activity is also very important mainly because there may be certain exercises that are painful or difficult to do at one stage of your condition. As you gain more strength and stability, you may be able to do some of those prior painful exercises in a cautious and focused fashion as strength and stability improve. So being cautious and deliberate is a really key part to exercising with knee arthritis as well.

Today was a terrible day. It was one of those days where everything just kept happening wrong. Very little sleep for all of us, cranky children, anxiety, bee stings, more tears, tantrums, headaches, and my sister put down her dog. I feel more then frayed. And as I rocked my daughters and rubbed their heads for the umpteenth time today, I reminded myself that it is just a phase. This is just a phase. A very short phase. And that today, survival was the only goal. Survival without intentionally causing more upset. Some days, like today, it’s about just making it through. Looking at the laundry not done and the dishes left all over the house and saying, “that’s okay.” I was supposed to work during nap but spent those two hours going back and forth between the girls rooms trying to put them back to sleep. I would get one to sleep just in time to head over to the other one crying. And as I watched the time slowly tick away and felt my edges becoming even more burnt and bruised, I just kept repeating, “it’s okay.” Because at the end of the day, it really is. Yes, I’m frayed and strapped. Yes, I’ve hit my emotional peak. And I readily accept those feelings as they are, flooded and overwhelming. But also, I’m looking around and reminding myself that it’s okay. It’s all going to be okay. That sometimes, SURVIVING is all you have to do as a mama, and that is more than okay. If you feel like today you are just barely surviving, just know you’re not alone, and I hope at some point, you get a moment to stare around without children pulling on you or crying your name so you can catch your breath and get ready to try again tomorrow. Every day doesn’t have to be a successful day. Some days are just about making it through. Let’s take a collective sigh together and pat ourselves on the back. We’ve made it to bedtime. Today, that’s my biggest success.

Hello! I hope this encourages you. I was keto for 18 months in the photo on the left. At 6 months keto I was very thin but eating 1000-1100 cals a day and very over active. I got down to 128# but, I was still starving, sore and tired. Jack McAnespy encouraged me to feed my body for calories as I was eating too little. I spent 5 months working on eating 1400 calories without stomach upset & nausea. I put on a couple pounds. Then for the next few months I continued to work my way to be able to eat up to 2000 calories a day comfortably. I was determined. I was also steadily putting on weight. My body didn't know what to do with all this extra energy I was feeding it so, it held onto it for safe keeping. I stayed calm & trusted my body would figure it out. I never left my size 4 clothing (they were a bit tight but, still fit). In Dec. 2018 I weighed 162 at 5'6.5"....Not thrilled but trusting my metabolism was slowly healing and my body would trust me again. I abused my body for over 20 years with under feeding & over working it. At one point on SAD, I was only consuming 800-1000 calories per day. 😥 I thought I was doing awesome at eating less & moving more and my body would reward me with the body of my dreams. 😖 (I now cringe when I think about it). Anyway, I kept the course. I decided I wanted to simplify my eating as I learned in Dec. 2018 I could no longer handle unfermented dairy (I have a problem with casein). So, in March I chose to eat meat & fat only to see if I would like it. 9 months later, I am loving it. It appeals to my minimalist ways and simple living. I have yet to get bored with it. Also, my body must love it since my metabolism has decided I can start dropping some of the weight. My body composition is different than when I was on keto and working out (lifting weights). I haven't been to the gym since June (due to some injuries that need to heal and also, I had plenty of activity outdoors). My muscles are solid, my clothes are getting baggier on me than when I was 128#! I am now 148#, go figure. 🙌😘🎉

The idea that anyone can achieve anything if they put their mind to it is an inspiring idea in theory, but when it comes to the chronically ill, the saying doesn’t necessarily apply.

We all want and hope to achieve so much in our lifetime but when you are chronically ill, sometimes those big dreams don’t always come true. This is not meant to be a downer, but rather we are here to tell you that what you are able to accomplish is ENOUGH.

To achieve success and happiness you don’t have to be a millionaire, a ceo, a business owner or have multiple houses. To us, success means that at the end of the day you can feel proud of yourself. Just remember that you DO enough and you ARE enough - never let anyone tell you otherwise. Comment below if you can relate. Please share/tag a friend who needs to read this today.
