ENGLISH VERSION
By unifying the fragmented kingdoms of West Africa in the 13th century, Soundiata Keita created an empire whose griots still praise greatness. The Mandingo lion was a fierce warrior and a clever statesman. Born disabled in 1190, in Niani in the small Kingdom of Mandingo (currently Upper Guinea). When Naré Maghan died in 1218, Dankaran Keïta, the eldest son of the late king, took power. Soundiata and her mother become the permanent object of the contempt of the new king. After an affront to his mother, Soundiata, at the age of seven, managed to get up. He miraculously covers the use of his legs when he touched the royal staff. But the hatred of Dankaran Keita leads Soundiata and her mother to exile. During this exile, the king of Sosso, Soumaoro Kanté attacked the kingdom of Manding. Dankaran Keita, flees and the Manding Empire is ravaged. Soundiata decides to return to the country to face Soumaoro. He then distinguished himself in the war against Soumaoro Kanté, and became Mansa, king of kings, at the end of the battle of Kirina, in 1235. The wisdom and tolerance of Soundiata Keïta allow different ethnicities and religions to live in peace in their empire (His tolerance allows the peaceful coexistence of Islam and animism in his Empire). He punishes with death the abduction and sale to traffickers of Malian captives and proclaims the first declaration of human rights: "All human life is a life;  one life is no more respectable than another." It is the day of his enthronement that would have been proclaimed the Charte du Mandé. This text is addressed to the "twelve parts of the world" and is therefore part of a universalist vocation. This charter is divided into seven articles and is often considered today as the first bill of rights in history. Soundiata Keïta died in 1255, drowned in the waters of Sankarani for some, killed by an arrow at a party in Niani for others.
