What does it mean to progressively Overload?

🔹 It means to continually increase the demands placed on your body through training.

The goal is usually to improve muscle hypertrophy (muscle growth) or strength.

🔹 A lot of people plateau when doing this because they only try to increase the weights, but that can limit you if you only focus on this.

So Yes, you can increase weights, but unless you only want to keep a hammer in your toolbox, it's best to put a variety of tools in your toolbox.

🔹 Doing this can get you a variety of ways to progressively overload, and ultimately, increase your hypertrophy and strength gains.

You can change the tempo you lift your weights, decrease the rest time between sets, increase the amount of reps or sets, as well as incorporating different training methods like the rest-pause or drop sets.

🔹 So there are definitely more ways to progressively overload than just increasing weights.

I get a lot of questions like how are you so consistent? How do you go to the gym 6 days a week? How do you put time aside to learn about everything? How do you diet? -

Answer is... i love the lifestyle. I dont think 'well i gotta go gym today' rather, i say 'YES IM HITTING PUSH/PULL/LEGS TODAY' learn to love the lifestyle and have a different mental approach on things and itll feel natural and fun! Same goes for dieting. Personally i dont stick to a STRICT diet but i do make healthier options. E.g if i go eat out. Instead of getting something heavy in fats and oil. I would get something with more protein and dense micronutrients. (Salad instead of a burger per say). Strictly do what you love and youll want to do it. -

A tip of mine is take progress pictures! Once you look back a few months or years and see the results youve made and the change youve done on your physique and mental strengh. Youll feel more motivated and do more! -

Venía a mi mi mente lo ocurrido hace un poco más de un año atrás, cuando intenté subirlo y no pude, y tuve que caminar con mi bici a mi lado, todo avergonzado. Esta vez debía ser distinto, y al llegar a la caseta de la entrada, se hizo presente mi temor. Pero comencé a pedalear y lo logré, y no sólo 1 vez, si no que 2 veces, incluso en la segunda subida lo hice en menos tiempo. Quedé más que contento, dichoso por al fin vencer a un duro escollo como es la cuesta del templo Bahá'í. Espectacular.

📍A VISUAL REPRESENTATION OF PROGRESSIVE OVERLOAD ⁣⁣

1️⃣ WHAT IS IT? ⁣
Progressive overload should always be in the back of your mind when going to the gym. It is the most important concept for maximising muscle growth. In short, progressive overload is the gradual increase in the amount of stress placed on the body from exercise. This means you either increase load, reps, sets, form or rep duration. ⁣


2️⃣ THE 8-12 RULE ⁣
There is one easy rule to ensure you are in fact using progressive overload. It is called the 8-12 rule. First, pick a weight you can do 8 reps with. Then work with that weight until you are able to do 12 reps. Increase the weight so you can do 8 reps again, and work with that weight until you can do 12 reps. Repeat this process.⁣ Notice that by using this rule you are only working in the 8-12 rep range. You do also want to work in lower rep ranges (3-5) for strength and higher rep ranges (12+) for hypertrophy/endurance. The same principle can be applied to for example a 5-8 rule. ⁣⁣

1️⃣ WHAT IS IT? ⁣
Progressive overload should always be in the back of your mind when going to the gym. It is the most important concept for maximising muscle growth. In short, progressive overload is the gradual increase in the amount of stress placed on the body from exercise. This means you either increase load, reps, sets, form or rep duration. ⁣

⁣
2️⃣ THE 8-12 RULE ⁣
There is one easy rule to ensure you are in fact using progressive overload. It is called the 8-12 rule. First, pick a weight you can do 8 reps with. Then work with that weight until you are able to do 12 reps. Increase the weight so you can do 8 reps again, and work with that weight until you can do 12 reps. Repeat this process.⁣ Notice that by using this rule you are only working in the 8-12 rep range. You do also want to work in lower rep ranges (3-5) for strength and higher rep ranges (12+) for hypertrophy/endurance. The same principle can be applied to for example a 5-8 rule. ⁣⁣

Mein Fazit bisher Ist sehr Gut! Meine Bizepssehnen Entzündung ist schon viel besser und die Schulter fühlt sich auch Freier an.👍

📍The deadlift is great for athletes and recreational lifters to increase power, strength, and sport performance. It allows you to lift very heavy loads which introduces a large stimulus that the body can adapt too. Both the hex bar and barbell deadlift have some differences which may or may not benefit you depending on your goal.

1️⃣ Muscle Activation
In a study, they found that the vastus lateralis (part of the quads) was more active during the hex bar deadlift. This was expected since it has seems to be more of a quad dominant movement from a biomechanics view point. In the barbell deadlift it was biceps femoris (hamstrings) and erector spinae (back, mainly low back).

2️⃣ Peak Force, Peak Power, and Peak Velocity
This was found to be greater in the hex bar deadlift. The position for the hex bar is better able to put the lifter at a more advantageous position in the starting phase of the lift which allows the lifter to have the enhanced velocity, force, and power. Having the load closer to the center of gravity may explain this.

3️⃣ Biomechanics
➖Hex Bar Deadlift
Moment arm at the knee increases and the moment arm at the hip decreases which ultimately will result in lower stress on the lower back.

➖Barbell Deadlift
Moment arm at the hip is greater at the hip than at the knee joint. This increases stress on the posterior chain (low back and hamstrings).

4️⃣ Practical Application
➖Hex Bar Deadlift
May be better for someone who has a low back injury, or recovering, or have pain. It can also potentially be used to maximize explosive power

➖Barbell Deadlift
If your goal is to strengthen the lumbar region and hamstrings, then this would be the exercise of choice.

Take what everyone says with a grain of salt.⁣

First off.⁣
Personal trainers - They know their clientele. So, therefore, they only think as deeply as 1) Calories, 2) Exercise. Some would argue macronutrients. If you count their myopic focus on excessive protein intake as knowledge, then I suppose it's on the list.⁣

So, when listening to what they have to say. Understand PT's are trying to accomplish one goal for their clients - Weight management (fat loss, muscle gain, maintenance, performance etc.)⁣

They argue, and with merit that if a person's goal is to weight loss. Why not give them a simple solution? I agree. PT's then go onto say that losing weight is the healthiest thing an overweight person can do. I agree.⁣

I respect PT's a lot; they've changed people's lives for the better. The problem is that with the rise of social media. The PT weight management dogma has become accepted as a nutritional fact when it's at stark odds with longevity science. In an obese society, this doesn't surprise me as we have confused weight loss with health.⁣

Here are of my few favourites-⁣
"You want fast metabolism."⁣
"You can't overeat protein."⁣

A morbidly obese person can lose all of their weight in two years. Two years is nothing in the grand scheme of things. So who cares who you lose it, right?⁣
I couldn't care how you lose weight as long as you do it quick. Just understand this. You CAN lose weight on ANY diet. That does not mean it's conducive to health. It's conducive to weight loss which acts as a proxy to health IF YOU ARE OVERWEIGHT. ⁣
What then happens when you lose weight, and you have 50+ years to live?⁣

My two cents is that the diet given to you by whoever considering what they believe is at odds with the science is unlikely to be a diet that keeps you free of metabolic disease and earlier death.
