Just What Kind of Mother Are You by Paula Daly 📚
Imagine if your BFF was caring for your child, and your child goes missing. Then imagine your child is not just missing but TAKEN. 📚
One step further. Imagine you are that BFF! Lisa is that BFF. She, like many of us, is overloaded with responsibilities – work, chores, children (or child – I’m a single mom with a teenage daughter). I can relate to her busy life, but imagine the guilt! AAAAH!😱 📚
The story is told by three alternating narrators – Lisa, the investigator and the abductor. 📚
Simply stated this book is a relatable, riveting #psychologicalthriller that you will NOT be able to put down until the last page is turned. This book has been out for quite a while, but if you haven’t read it yet – put it on your #gottaread list! 📚

Not my favorite memoir. I love a raucous debauched story, don’t get me wrong. With the title I was expecting some earth shattering chart topping accomplishments. Things achieved most people (women) can’t achieve once parenthood (mommy-hood) takes over their lives and they loose their sense of self. Basically Kristin went on vacation and fucked a bunch of hot foreigners, bemoaned being single, and finally settled down. The whole tone was very self congratulatory to me. A memoir didn’t need to be written about vacation sex escapades.

    [Choose a Door]
1~ An arched, oak wood door. Full of engravings of various plants and flowers. A warning sign states you may travel anywhere in the world, at any time, but never return to your original home/home town.
.
2~ A wide, double door, made of white stone. A warning sign states that when you go through the door you will find a home in the place you've always dreamed of, but it will cost you 3 years of your life.
.
3~ A tall, rectangular, stained glass door. Full of colors you never realized existed. A warning sign states that you will end up in your favorite bookish land, but will never be allowed to leave.
.
.
.
Which do you choose?

Day 6 of #10photochallenge -Epigraph. I have loved seeing these today. When I saw the challenge, this was the one that popped into my head because I remember it made me smile. It’s from The Girls at 17 Swann Street. 😊

Told in rhyming text, a polar bear reassures her cub of her unconditional love. While the seasons may change from one to the next, the polar bear’s love for her cub will stay the same. This is a beautiful book coupled with gorgeous illustrations showing Mother Nature at her best. The uplifting message embedded makes this a very heart-warming read indeed!

This slow moving thriller is told from dual POV, Sadie Keller whose brother Shane was found dead by his wife, who doesn’t seem to be overly grief stricken. Sadie is asking the police to look into the death but the coroner ruled a heart attack and with pill bottles found lying next to the body and a known opioid epidemic in this small town, she is having a hard time convincing anyone it is anything but what it appears. Sadie and her sister also learn that they did not know their brother as well as they thought. We also hear from Henley, a young girl who wants nothing more than to leave Blackwater, KS and her sketchy family behind her.
This book is where my reading slump began and I cannot explain exactly why. I do think many of us who grew up in small towns will recognize these type of characters by different names. It is a good but slow moving story. Thank you to #netgalley and the publisher for the ebook in exchange for my opinion. Something about starting kindergarten caused a literacy EXPLOSION for my almost 6 year old. At the beginning of July she was struggling to sound out the words in Level 1 easy readers. Fast forward 7-8 weeks, and she’s totally reading 70-80 page chapter books!
•
I told my mom about it, and she said I was the same. When kindergarten started I couldn’t read at all, and by the end of the year I was reading Nancy Drew. •
It’s super fun to watch it happening; and interesting because my oldest was so different. She started reading at age 3, but spent a whole year on level 1 and 2 readers before moving up to chapter books. •
Such a good reminder that literacy is different for everyone, and just because it feels like maybe they “should” already be reading _______ or _______, that as long as you keep reading a lot to them and having books everywhere, odds are good that you’ll find yourself #raisingreaders! 😍📖

How amazing is my sister? She painted me this for early birthday pressie based on my own Insta photo (😊 scroll back thru my feed to see the original). She nailed it huh? So proud and so chuffed my photo could inspire her first painting after 10+ year hiatus! Now don't wait another 10 til the next one Mel 😉

    Hey Bookworms!

Hope you are having a wonderful weekend. Currently, I'm in a bit of a situation. I'm still enjoying my current read, it's just really lengthy though and I just can't seem to finish it so I feel a little but frustrated and not as motivated to read. I feel like I'm not making much progress with it.

Qotd: Have you ever felt like you just want to finish a book already but it's just not happening? 🙈

Perhaps the most influential book on my life and writing, #TraumaandRecovery, which I’ve read and reread over the past two years. Thanks to my wise editor, @erin_wicks.

I decided recently to just put the Anne books on hold and start Little Women by Louisa May Alcott ☺️ was gonna wait until I finished the Anne books, but I just couldn’t, because I’ve already heard so many spoilers that I’ve semi-forgotten by now (I’m looking at you, Joey and Rachel from Friends), so I just want to read it already. what are you all currently reading? are you enjoying it so far? 🙂
