I think this is one of the most useful yogic breathing exercises, and one that I teach often - especially to beginner students ⠀

Practicing this exercise will help you to increase the length of your exhalation, which will then also have an effect on the quality of your inhale. ⠀

Nuances: ⠀
1. For the humming, find the pitch/tone that results in the least amount of throat tension. Play with it⠀

2. The goal is smooth exhalation - notice the places where the humming wavers or breaks (you’ll hear a little of that in the video). The goal is to soften that over time ⠀

3. With the suspension of breath after inhale and exhale, think of this as a natural pause. You’re not doing anything - you’re not trying to hold the breath in or out - you’re just suspended. ⠀

4. Don’t force the exhalation - let it be as long as feels natural and stop before you start to feel strain in the throat. ⠀

You’ll likely find that if you let the lungs naturally guide this process, the exercise will get slowly easier and smoother with each breath. If you want to learn in more detail, come to movement class - 7pm Tuesdays and 530pm Wednesdays @montroseyogacoop

Walking is one of my favorite ways to be physically fit, energetic and strong. 💥

As I think back on it, even as a younger person I walked a lot.🙌🏾
.
When I would visit my grandmother in Florida, I would walk out in the country where she lived. 🤣
.
As an adult when my father was on dialysis and I went to visit, and I would drop him off
and then walk around, Lake Loretta.
.
Walking has been a great source of comfort and a way to “work or think” through things.
.
About a year ago I started taking tai chi and absolutely love it!🥰

Personally the Danes have always had my heart with making all spaces "hugge" but this Japanese term resonates with me as we head into the festive season. Timely reminder to take breaks, notice what arises in the moment, let it pass with intention. We take everything with us from one moment to the next, but sometimes it's a necesity to start with a clean slate, a fresh focused mind. A form of selfcare; you owe it not only to yourself, but to others you serve.

In the Spring of 2020, I will be offering a 30hrs Intensive Pranayama and breathwork course at Yoga Junction, in London.
Set over the space of three weekends, one in April and two in May, the structure of the course is designed to be easily comprehensible and accessible to all yoga teachers, interested yoga practitioners of all levels but also for any therapists who would like to introduce breathwork benefits to their clients.
Students will gain a well-rounded and excellent understanding of pranayama and breath-work, in both theory and practice, through a clear step-by-step approach. The course is particularly suitable for those teachers who wish to refine and hone their breath-work skills and introduce the foundations of pranayama and breath-work into their classes.
In order to figure out if this course is for you, I am offering an opportunity to dip your toes into the course material through a 2-hour taster workshop.
You will have the opportunity to discuss the content of the course including the origin of pranayama, why breathing correctly is so important and the basics of cultivating a nurturing and safe breathing practice.
Most importantly, I will be on hand to answer any questions that you might have about the full course set over the three weekends.
During this taster, you will experience a few breathing and meditative techniques, and you will be given a small hand out with all the information about the full-length course and how to book it.

How much I love this!!!! That’s just it. The rules we abide by - what would happen if for that time on our yoga mats, we went away from this concept of how it’s all meant to look and just have a little feel for it instead? What if we threw the business rule book away? How often have we tried that? Then perhaps try it outside in real life.
Life is experienced differently by each unique you, and trust me, there really is no mould you have to fit.
No one you have to copy, no one who have to please, no one way to live your life

When you realise that the ‘correct’ way is just someone else’s opinion which you have been fed your whole life.... The power lies in you to change it all. Or not. Allowing to ask yourself how you feel about something first. Treat yourself, trust yourself. You are amazing. You have it all inside you. It is limitless. Creativity, will, positivity, energy. All is well. Be here now.
You spend time in my space to ‘escape’ your life for a short while... then you realise you come to face and embrace your deepest dreams and fears.
That’s the deal. Drop the rule book. My terms. My life. My choice. My right. My happy = good times.

𝒩𝒶𝒹𝒾 𝒮𝒽𝑜𝒹𝒽𝒶𝓃𝒶 ➵ “Alternate Nostril Breath”. **Also known as Channel Cleansing Breath (Nadi: channel, Shodhana: cleansing), or Anuloma Viloma.** ·

In the yogic tradition, it is believed that we have 72,000 energy channels which carry Prana or “life force energy” throughout our bodies. ·

Our two main channels, called Ida and Pingala, transport energy from the base of the spine to the crown of the head, in a dancing helix shape along the central axis of the spine. ·

Ida Nadi begins and ends on the left side of the body, carrying our cooling feminine energy. Pingala Nadi begins and ends on the right side of the body, carrying our warming masculine energy. ·

In practising Nadi Shodhana or alternate nostril breathing, we encourage Prana (life force energy) to flow freely through Ida and Pingala; balancing the masculine and feminine energies within, as well as the right and left hemispheres of the brain.

Ida Nadi begins and ends on the left side of the body, carrying our cooling feminine energy. Pingala Nadi begins and ends on the right side of the body, carrying our warming masculine energy. ·

In the Spring of 2020, I will be offering a 30hrs Intensive Pranayama and breathwork course at Yoga Junction, in London.
Set over the space of three weekends, one in April and two in May, the structure of the course is designed to be easily comprehensible and accessible to all yoga teachers, interested yoga practitioners of all levels but also for any therapists who would like to introduce breathwork benefits to their clients.
Students will gain a well-rounded and excellent understanding of pranayama and breath-work, in both theory and practice, through a clear step-by-step approach. The course is particularly suitable for those teachers who wish to refine and hone their breath-work skills and introduce the foundations of pranayama and breath-work into their classes.
In order to figure out if this course is for you, I am offering an opportunity to dip your toes into the course material through a 2-hour taster workshop.
You will have the opportunity to discuss the content of the course including the origin of pranayama, why breathing correctly is so important and the basics of cultivating a nurturing and safe breathing practice.
Most importantly, I will be on hand to answer any questions that you might have about the full course set over the three weekends.
During this taster, you will experience a few breathing and meditative techniques, and you will be given a small hand out with all the information about the full-length course and how to book it.

Pray for others and send quiet intentions to people you know who are feeling down, sad, experiencing loss, experiencing difficulties are on a good road. It feels like it’s been raining non-stop here in Austin for the past 3 weeks! I really do love the rain, it can be so relaxing and nice to meditate to the natural sound of a good downpour.. but I’m ready for the sun to come back out, and that last bit of summer before our official ‘fall’ begins here in Texas! 🤣🙈🌧💦

🔆The thoughts of an individual is usually the deciding factor of everything in life. 🧐

🌋If your not happy with your surroundings and the world around you the first step is to change your thoughts which make up your inner world. 🏖

💡Once you improve the activity in your inner world your external world will then improve, progress, and evolve. 🧗🏼‍♀️

🛠You learning to think properly is not much different than a mechanic learning the ins and outs of a vehicle. It’s takes practice persistence and a lot of patience. Controlling your thoughts and thinking properly is a skill. No Great skill is learned overnight so stick with it! 🔩

🌲Enjoying my last day of the brisk fresh air here in the beautiful Northwest with a few rounds of breathing. 💨

❄️Spent just 10 minutes today with a few rounds of #wimhofbreathing in the 45 degree weather. Wasnt awfully cold but just enough to step out of our comfort zone and train to boost the will power, drive and happiness. ☃️

💫Want a mental and physical boost?! Start with just going outside in the cold and doing a good breathing sessions for 5 minutes. 🔥

⚡️Feeling is understanding. We must challenge ourselves to even begin to see our potential. ⭐️
