Unpopular opinion cookie edition: a great oatmeal and raisin cookie is better than a chocolate chip cookie, don’t @ me. You get a lot of chocolate, white Chocolate and caramel protein cookies but this not so much. Imagine my excitement to see this massive one for sale on My Protein.

A good oatmeal and raisin cookie has three things. Chunky oats, juicy raisins and copious amounts of mixed spice. Opening this packet I’m welcomed by cinnamon and nutmeg. This cookie has some nice big, juicy raisins. I couldn’t see much in the way of real oats, it was more a thick, heavy protein cookie, but it did have a nice chew. It’s a little artificially sweet, but this is for the most part disguised by the delicious spice mix.

This is a THIC boy. A 75g cookie has:
Calories: 318
Fat: 9g
Saturated fat: 3.5g
Carbohydrates: 21g
Sugar: 4.5g
Protein: 38g
I repeat...38g of protein. That is HUGE. For comparison, that’s more protein, gram for gram than a chicken breast. And due to the huge protein content it’s also lower than many cookies in carbohydrates.

These might be a little synthetically sweet. They may also be a little high in calories, but that protein content is astounding! One thing that disappointed me about this one, though, is that it’s not suitable for vegetarians as it includes gelatine. Are we not past that as a necessity now?

So I've just weighed myself and here are the results.
On left = starting weight on 3rd of February
On right = current weight
I've been bulking now for 2 weeks and so far I have gained 1.4kg/3lbs
I've gained half an inch on my biceps, chest, thighs and calfs so hopefully I'm doing well so far, was quite surprised as was expecting to have gained a lot more weight but I'm happy, slow and steady. 💪

Sleep is a very important and under-recognised component of recovery. Better sleep duration and quality is key to improved recovery which means faster adaption to stimulus and better performance in the gym. Below are two key factors of sleep and some ways of improving sleep to benefit your recovery.

Sleep duration 🥱
• maximise the duration of sleep that you are currently getting. Some studies suggest high intensity resistance training athletes may require 9+ hours of sleep each night. Naps also may provide a benefit to recovery, where NREM restorative stages are predominant and can be achieved from a short 10-20 minute nap.

Sleep quality 💤
• sleep can be subcategorised into awake, light, REM, and deep sleep stages. The goal is to maximise deep and REM sleep while minimising awake hours. Many things can improve sleep quality such as...
• minimising blue/green light exposure after sunset
• take a warm/hot shower 30-60mins before bed (decreases internal body temp. which improves slow wave sleep)
• supplementation eg. magnesium bisglycinate/threonate, ashwagandha, melatonin, 5HTP, valerian root, theanine, GABA
• white/pink noise (may stimulate parasympathetic nervous system and improve sleep quality)
• nasal breathing (increases eNOS[3] which may improve quantity of deep sleep minimises glutamate)

Tracking tools ⚒️
@ouraring can track sleep quality by measuring sleep stages (awake, light, REM, deep) as well as resting HR and HRV which can give fairly accurate & objective data to your sleep quality.
• rate your sleep from 1-10 based on how refreshed you are waking, your sleep duration, and your mood and energy levels going into the day. Add all your values up and derive a mean. This is your subjective sleep quality score for the day.

Dead stop squats with depth.

After suffering 12+ months with chronic lumbar pain, my legs are finally coming back in and it feels so good. I’m leaving the ego at the door, focussing on form and contraction rates.
Slowly but surely I’ll have them back where I want. Power up 💪.

One thing I learnt a few years ago was to change my circle. It’s better to have fewer friends that truly support you than to have loads that aren’t really bothered.

The people i invest my time into now are all people who genuinely want to help me. And I am extremely grateful to every one of those people.

VARIANTI
🔻È possibile utilizzare anche solo la farina di avena integrale 20g... In questo caso consiglio di aggiungere un po' di Cannella per dare maggiore sapore

🔻È possibile utilizzare anche solo la farina di avena integrale 20g... In questo caso consiglio di aggiungere un po' di Cannella per dare maggiore sapore

Well this evening didn’t go as planned... I got a call from my mum saying her friend has let her down and she had a spare thicket for les miserables... so bill went and got Macie and I got the train to London 🤣. It was a massive rush, and for dinner mum got me a McDonald’s. I didn’t get chance to get a photo of it while trying to eat standing up in the middle of a busy train... . I enjoyed the play, the first half was better, they kinda lost me in the second half.

Breakfast was @quakeroatsuk with birthday cake @phdnutrition topped with raspberries and cream @williescacao and raspberries.
Lunch was a bagel with ham, cheese, lettuce and tomatoes. Also had a double chocolate nakd bar and some raisins.
From McDonald’s I had 5 chicken selects, fries and 5 mozzarella sticks.

WHAT A TRIP. ✨
As I prepare to leave tomorrow, I’m reflecting on how this trip affected my mental health regarding my body image. I struggled with knowing what I was eating everyday wasn’t the same as my regular diet. I wouldn’t be tracking, I wouldn’t be cooking my own food so to limit the amount of fats I used. Nor would I be getting the vegan diet that I’ve loved. I struggled with the limited amount of exercise I’d be doing as well. Did I gain a little excess weight? Ya probably. Do I look a little flatter and less defined. You betcha. Do I have a negative image on my body? SURE DO. However, I have learned so much about myself this trip. I’ve learned that nobody cares what you look like. We went on a 10km hike uphill in 30+ degree heat. I didn’t struggle, I kept a great pace and recovered easily. If my cardio and endurance hasn’t changed then my strength and muscle probably hasn’t either. Outside of the health and fitness mindset, I learned that I can do anything I put my mind to. I faced a lot of fears by doing things I’d never have done back home. I became more confident in social aspects and uncomfortable situations. I’ve learned that I can stick up for myself if someone says something I don’t like or there’s a situation I don’t want to be in. Overall, I am so happy I went on this trip and did the things I did. I have zero regrets. I am still learning to love myself and that’s not something that can be fixed easily. I am grateful for this trip as it helped me to grow. I am happy with who I am as a person and what my beliefs are. I’ll struggle with body image issues for a while I’m sure, but that’s okay. It’s something I’m constantly working on with the support of my friends, family, and the Instagram fitness world.

As I prepare to leave tomorrow, I’m reflecting on how this trip affected my mental health regarding my body image. I struggled with knowing what I was eating everyday wasn’t the same as my regular diet. I wouldn’t be tracking, I wouldn’t be cooking my own food so to limit the amount of fats I used. Nor would I be getting the vegan diet that I’ve loved. I struggled with the limited amount of exercise I’d be doing as well. Did I gain a little excess weight? Ya probably. Do I look a little flatter and less defined. You betcha. Do I have a negative image on my body? SURE DO. However, I have learned so much about myself this trip. I’ve learned that nobody cares what you look like. We went on a 10km hike uphill in 30+ degree heat. I didn’t struggle, I kept a great pace and recovered easily. If my cardio and endurance hasn’t changed then my strength and muscle probably hasn’t either. Outside of the health and fitness mindset, I learned that I can do anything I put my mind to. I faced a lot of fears by doing things I’d never have done back home. I became more confident in social aspects and uncomfortable situations. I’ve learned that I can stick up for myself if someone says something I don’t like or there’s a situation I don’t want to be in. Overall, I am so happy I went on this trip and did the things I did. I have zero regrets. I am still learning to love myself and that’s not something that can be fixed easily. I am grateful for this trip as it helped me to grow. I am happy with who I am as a person and what my beliefs are. I’ll struggle with body image issues for a while I’m sure, but that’s okay. It’s something I’m constantly working on with the support of my friends, family, and the Instagram fitness world.

Getting bigger but also fatter 😤😭 haven’t done a Bodyfat check in awhile but I’m guessing it’s about 15%, while I don’t like that, I gotta stay focus and trust the process, it will pay off eventually!
