Ben Beaulieu - The Redefining Of Black Male Masculinity

Picture a placid cool lake on a hot summer day, serene and inviting. But what you don't know is this, under that cool dark water is every man-eating water creature there is. From crocodiles to water snakes, this is when perception can go horrifically wrong. This is who Ben is, the eye of any storm, especially when dealing with his outspoken kid half brother. Calm and cool, what Ben hides is what keeps fans coming back for more. The man is what I call a pure killer, the kind of life ender that smiles as he slits throats, grins as he disembowels, taking a sort of dark peace in killing. This monster, the deepest depths of hell, is hidden behind the love he has for his half brother, Sally and Kelly, as well as those he and Slick protect. Often underestimated as a black men living in 1922 Jim Crow South Carolina, Ben often uses this misconception as if bait, dangling it in front of the ignorant, hoping they will bite, praying to feast on their flesh. But as smooth as Ben is, his undoing is his love for Sally and their children . This is when the reader witnesses a beautiful humanity, a zeal to love with earnestness and purity. But how can such love exist from such a dark place? This is what makes Ben a fan favorite, readers are mesmerized by the layers that make up who he is. ----------------------------------------------------------- #bloodbrotherchronicles #theriverbooks #director #producer #actors #cameraoperator #filmphotography #filmmaker #cinematographer #filmmakers #videoproduction #videography #setlife #behindthescenes #filmproduction #videographer #filmmakerslife #independentfilm #cinematography #cameraman #cameratricks #videoshoot #makingof #art #photoart #filmphotographic

It’s the right of the artist to control their tools. But the camera companies don’t want to give us control. There are a lot of buried features being held back. Magic Lantern proved this years ago. It’s a real shame their project hasn’t been more active. A hacked A7sii would be quite a treat. While bypassing firmware encryption is super difficult, it’s relatively easy to mod the camera bodies themselves. For instance, with a little open-heart surgery, you can remove the IR cut filter. All this filter does is block light longer than 750 nanometers. This is necessary for normal color rendering, but the job could be done just as well with a screw-on filter. Removing that IR filter allows some cool tricks..
.
First, two extra stops of exposure open up instantly. Yes, the colors get weird, but with some color correction and desaturation, it’s possible to get full spectrum footage to look very close to actual human night vision. We see very little color in extreme low light, so it’s actually more realistic to depict deep darkness as very close to B&W. I know some people will debate this as a point of style. But those extra stops are equivalent to a clean 1 million ISO, or not as clean 2 million ISO on an a7s2..
.
Not only do you get more exposure to work with, but you also get to light with whole new kinds of lamps. You can buy or rent large infrared sources that emit light that’s invisible to the human eye. You can fully illuminate an actor without the actor even seeing the light. Or you can point lights at animals (or other documentary subjects) without them being disturbed at all. These are just the lowlight tricks..
.
In broad daylight, full-spectrum sensors offer all kinds of extraordinarily surreal opportunities. You can make leaves white, or red or blue. You can render the most stunningly crisp B&W imagery imaginable. Or you can write messages in special IR reflective paints, that appear to glow insanely bright.  I’m sure most shooters that see this footage of camera surgery gape in horror. Don’t gape. For just a couple hundred bucks there are pro services that will do it for you. Before the end of the year, I intend to do just that with my A7r3 b-cam.

BTS // Had the opportunity to visit the opening day of @seahawks training camp a couple weeks back. I really wanted to test out the 70-200mm lens, so I figured this would be a perfect time to rent one 🎥
