You know what?...
I sometimes don’t have my shit together.
I more than sometimes freak out about the small stuff.
I have bad days in the gym.
I have anxiety - I worry about everything.
I sometimes get mad at @meredith_root for nothing because I’m stressed out.
I sometimes look at my body and wish it were different in some way.
I worry about whether I should keep competing in CrossFit. If I’m good enough. What the point is.

But I’ll admit, just like most people, I don’t post that stuff. I don’t know why I don’t. I guess it’s not what I see, so I don’t. All I see is everyone crushing it in the gym, preparing chef grade meals and eating ice cream.

Every day I look on Instagram and I am tricked into thinking that everyone is happy beyond belief, that their bank accounts and full and that their relationships are perfect. Why am I / are we so easily convinced? I know we know better. I really think that as great as social media can be, it has this dark side of inauthenticity.

But, I think it’s important for people to know that we all have bad days, rough moments, fights with our loved ones, etc... I have learned that there is so much value in being authentic, real and open. All of my greatest and strongest relationships grew through tough times. I receive the most feedback when I share the tough times I have competing against my partner or coming out of the closet. Why isn’t there more authenticity on social media?

I guess I should say something helpful because it’s Instagram, but really, I’m learning that no matter what you do real life is hard at times. I just try to be resilient, learn and really enjoy the good stuff. And maybe post about a bad day once in a while so that everyone out there doesn’t think that they are the only one.

New timeless sinister SWINGS timing. (No get ups)

13:00.

You may wonder why I still have a time for "timeless". I am still tracking to see how going the timeless program works for myself - I will start my clock before the first set of swings and proceed to just get it done based on feel and NEVER looked at the clock during the session.

And I ONLY start a new set when my breath comes back down to conversational effort.

Over the past 3 weeks - my 'timeless' practice gotten my timing from 15min down to 13min today!! Of course, it wasn't a linear progress - the data points were indeed as @brettjonessfg mentioned in his article 'The timeless solution for swings, snatches and more'. There were times when I took as slow as 17 or 18 minutes.

But the whole idea is to go by how you feel instead of the clock!! Looking quite decent so far. Going to try out till March to see how it goes!😊 #metamorfitus

2 x 1000, 4' rest, at 32 SR

This session certainly get the old heart pumping. Overall this one was 0.2sec/500 faster than last time 19th November. Aim was 6 fast strokes then settle into pace. Found at times on both reps that I was dropping both SR and pace and had to pull back. On first rep some of it was certainly about focus as I lost it only for a second or two, and it meant pace dropped off. Had more focus on second rep and pace dropped off less. Trying to write my own training plan to incorporate all of the things I feel I specifically can benefit from, including regular testing for 500m, 1k and 2k’s, dipping into the C25K running programme and weights. I’ve had a good look through all of my training logs since I started last July and I can see where the strengths and weaknesses are. Working around single parent life is certainly the most challenging part but I think I’ve devised a way to achieve a balanced and achievable structure. Interval day, week 23 on the BPP. I've not done 500's for 10 weeks and I'd never managed 8 😲 so I knew this was going to hurt. Set myself a starting 🎯 1:45 and looked to hold or reduce that before going full lactate express on the last. HR hit my max of 180 and I paced each piece badly so need to continue to work on that. Overall not a bad session...maybe 7/10

Not sure how that will translate to race day 😏, how or what value to set? Finished the 2nd 20 with some effort and focus required. Always look back with enjoyment, I did that.

Blocks of 6 4 2 2 4 6 mins with 2 min rest at varying intensity over 36 mins.
All rounds sub 1.55/500m (sub 145 on 2 min blocks). Guts of just over 6k rowed.

Rowed a Marathon for the first time this morning.
.
A marathon is 26.2 miles... which equals 42,195 meters.
.
Making this the furthest I’ve ever rowed by 40,595 meters 😅 said another way...
.
until today the furthest I’d rowed is 1 mile... and @markanthonyjoe and I both just did 26.2
.
And most anyone that reads this won’t care... and that’s ok.
.
Because this post isn’t about the actual row, this post and message I want to get out there is for the guy or girl who is holding themselves back...
.
like I was.
.
Holding themselves back from achieving much more.
.
Whether it’s from a lack of confidence... for example, not believing that you can even really do it. Thinking of your “goal” more as a “that’d be nice to do” instead of... I’m going to do it.
.
Whether it from listening too much to other people... for example, telling you that you need a specific training program...
.
You shouldn’t do it until “x”...
.
You should be realistic about your pace and time.
.
Or maybe you’re accidentally holding yourself back because you’re waiting for the perfect time.
.
You don’t mean to keep delaying it, your intentions are good because you want to do your best, but unfortunately it’s led you to a spot of not taking action...
.
And that’s where Mark and I were.
.
We’d been kicking around the idea of a Marathon Row for a few weeks, strategizing, thinking about when to do it, and finally ... Friday night at 9pm we both had had enough of our own excuses...
.
And we said, the hell with it, let’s do it Sunday.... 6am.
.
Leaving no option, no excuses
.
just time to sit our ass on the seat and start rowing.
.
Not focused on having the perfect plan, but instead focused on taking action.
.
Focused on putting in the effort...
.
Focused on taking on the unknown...
.
Focused on what we can control and dealing with the challenges...
.
The discomfort...
.
And everything else as it comes.
.
Because we can all handle more than we give ourselves credit for.
.
We can all do more...
.
We can all accomplish more...
.
So if you have a goal... or something you want to do...
.
I encourage you to stop talking about doing it and simply write it down/put it on your schedule...
.
And go DO it!

Any rowers out there? This is for you.

Don’t stress the strap – stress the foot placement. If you hit the catch in a dog poop, rounded shape, you may need to lower your feet. If you are a stiff athlete without a lot of hip flexion, you may need to lower your feet. Ultimately this about reducing compromises, ensuring your ability to breathe, stabilizing your shoulders, and the relationship between femur and hip.

Very happy with my execution today. It was the usual very hot and dry air. But I did my training justice and fought to hold 1:34 in the middle and emptied the tank on the home stretch.

Taylor’s Tactical Tuesday Tip of the Day: Rather than thinking of rowing as a “pulling” exercise, think of it as a “pushing” exercise.

So instead of trying to “pull” the handle away, think of it as the leg press machine in the gym. This will cause you to use your legs more instead of relying too much on your back and arms.
