I don’t know about you but it always surprises me when I find a little flower that has pushed itself through the tiniest crack in the concrete. ✨

To me it appears that instead of focusing on the dark and heavy covering above it, giving up that it won’t see the day of light, it aimed for the light that came through the smallest crack in the cement. That little seed will grow and bend itself to reach the light. 🌟

So, let us too focus on the light no matter how small it is. If your circumstances are grim today, keep your heart focused on the little glimmer of hope that shines within you. Keep growing through the darkness, you will get through this. 💫

I take pills every day, so that I can feel better. Struggle is an understatement when it comes to both how hard it was for me to take medication and also how I was doing when I decided to take it. Admitting I struggled with depression was much harder than talking about OCD or anxiety. Here's to all the stigmas and struggles and hard decisions and taking pills without shame.

The key word here is "WORK" 💯You may go to some personal development sessions and have the coach stand in front of the group and present on whatever topics are the focus for that particular event. That's not what Power Confidence workshops are about. ⁠⠀

When you are committed to the process, have a growth mindset, and fully accept that YOU are the only one that can make the necessary changes in your life, you will have countless a-ha moments. I opt for my clients to do the work during session for a few reasons: ⁠⠀
⁠⠀
1. The work actually gets done. Even if you do it only once (which I recommend you come back to the workbooks over and over) it's one more time than you would have done had I just sent it home with you. ⁠⠀
⁠⠀
2. You are able to put the principles directly into practice during and after I have presented and coached on them. You are able to ask questions and gain further clarification should you want/need it. ⁠⠀
⁠⠀
3. It does a phenomenal job of opening the discussion between participants. Many realize they are not alone in their challenges and all are often offered new perspectives. ⁠⠀

Most of you know, or have heard of my traumas... I've always been very open with my heart and emotions on my sleeve... But not many of you know that I was consistently struggling with non-military related PTSD, Severe Anxiety Disorder and mild bouts with Depression.
Shocking? Well, compared to my life experiences... no, not really. Every day was a painful uphill battle.. from the moment I opened my eyes in a day, for a long time.. I was medicated temporarily in the beginning.. but prescription medications left me blank, empty, numb, lifeless and SOUL-LESS.
So I switched to medicinal cannabis isolates and CBD, coupled with the inner-work myself.. which, not to my surprise, started working.. Life was still HARD, but it was HAPPENING! Healing was happening!

I was still having these extreme emotional, almost borderline manic 'episodes' when I experienced a heavy trigger. I was still angry, and found that my PTSD LOVES ANGER & burying hints of vengeance.
Then I found Psilocybin. MAPS (Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Research) has some great studies and info about the medicinal/healing benefits of Psilocybin for treatment of specifically- PTSD, Severe Anxiety and Depression disorders... Microdosing is taking the LEAST amount possible, but still feeling the emotional effects.. it's said to help re-wire the brain to function in a healthier manner, as before trauma.

Most of you know, or have heard of my traumas... I've always been very open with my heart and emotions on my sleeve... But not many of you know that I was consistently struggling with non-military related PTSD, Severe Anxiety Disorder and mild bouts with Depression. 
Shocking? Well, compared to my life experiences... no, not really. Every day was a painful uphill battle.. from the moment I opened my eyes in a day, for a long time.. I was medicated temporarily in the beginning.. but prescription medications left me blank, empty, numb, lifeless and SOUL-LESS.
So I switched to medicinal cannabis isolates and CBD, coupled with the inner-work myself.. which, not to my surprise, started working.. Life was still HARD, but it was HAPPENING! Healing was happening!

Not a bad summary.. capturing some of the most common symptoms that can be present for those with depression, anxiety and other mood disorders.
There is still such a stigma surrounding mental health and a certain amount of shame, embarrassment felt by those with these diagnosis. I know because I’ve been there 👩‍⚕️✋ Remember mental health does not discriminate, individuals do not choose to be sad, you can’t just “snap out of it” and be happy.. regain motivation.... If you are worried about your mental health don’t be scared to reach out and ask for help. Start with a friend/family member. Try and find the right professional person to connect with.

PSA: Anxiety isn’t something that needs to be “managed” because it isn’t actually a problem. •

Lack of self awareness is actually the problem. •

Anxiety is a beacon. An indicator. It’s useful Information.
It’s doing a specific job for you, just like any other emotional experience does. •
*It’s very simply you letting yourself know that you’re out of Integrity somewhere in your life.* •

Self awareness + anxiety = “Oh hi. There’s anxiety here. Where have I gone out of integrity? (listens for answer, finds answer, takes appropriate action)
>> Anxiety dissipates bc it’s done its job

OR You work with someone like me who can help identify the answer/where the veer from integrity was in real time
>> Anxiety dissipates, same thing

You could have gone out of integrity in something you did, said, believed or created.
But with real self awareness, it only takes a few minutes to find the cause and dissipate the anxiety.
It’s all about awareness plus action. •

Depression? Same thing. It’s NOT A PROBLEM.
Lack of self awareness about why it’s showing up is the issue.

These things only persist when the cause isn’t identified and the subsequent better choices aren’t made. •

The human body has these built in indicators FOR us and our wellbeing. When they are understood in the right way, they work for you not against.

And ps: this is coming from someone who walks this talk and dissipated full blown Panic Disorder, 12 years ago. There’s always someone in the bunch who wants to say “easier said than done.” But I’ve done it. I teach my clients the same self awareness and they do it too. •
You’re designed to listen to every emotional experience vs repress it.
And when we listen, the fullest potential as a human becomes available. •

Worldwide 10-20% of children are experience a mental health condition or symptoms of one.
Half of all mental illnesses begin by the age of 14 and three-quarters by mid-20s.

So what if we stopped dismissing childrens feelings? Taught them how to express emotions. That it’s ok to be sad or angry or down and teach them how to cope rather than dismissing them.

What if it isn’t a phase and by listening to a child talk about their thoughts and emotions it could help them get diagnosed from an early age? Or learn how to accept how they feel from a young age?

What if starting conversations about mental health from a young age could reduce the risk of suicide?

What if we make mental health a topic from a young age?

You are allowed to be proud of yourself. Especially for all the little things you do. Because those little things, are the very thing taking you a step closer to where you want to be. Getting out of bed when your demons left you drained the night before is something to be proud of. Showering when you don’t have the energy is something to be proud of. A distressed gut can send signals to the brain, just as a distressed mind can send signals to the gut.

These parts of our body are connected via the vagus nerve, a super highway of neural networks which send messages back and forth, making sure everything is monitored and working properly.

They are also able to influence each other, meaning that an imbalance in one creates an imbalance in the other. This is how our digestive problems can be the cause or the product of anxiety, stress, or depression. It’s tough to know which came first...the chicken or the egg?
.
The most well-known link is the “fight or flight” response. Who hasn’t experienced having to run to the restroom right before a stressful presentation at work? The psychological “threat” is picked up by the mind+body system and a signal is sent to the digestive tract to release anything that may slow or weigh us down during our escape (this system was built for physical threats but now we no longer have to run away from tigers, just scary social interactions)!

Research has also found that the gut is responsible for 90-95% of serotin production! That means that most of our mood regulation messaging system is found in our digestive tract. If our gut bacteria is in a state of unbalance (more unhelpful than helpful) it will prioritize healing over producing the feel good chemical.

Our gut health impacts our mental health and our mental health impacts our digestive health.
In fact, we know that from the time a fetus is in the womb, the mom’s stress level can increase the susceptibility to stress, gut diseases, anxiety disorders, and depression. The same goes for major threats to wellbeing in childhood. We cannot treat one without the other!

So, repeat after me: I will check-in with my mental health and gut health simultaneously when I am feeling off. I will take care of both of these organs as if they were one.

I have two mood states in the gym. I feel like it and I dont. This shouldn’t determine whether I show up or not. Because in life, it gets real hard, and if only learn how to operate out of a state of inconvenience, I won’t be able to succeed. Period✨

Its hard when it feels that you are experiencing a different period of your life where the skies aren’t so bright, the days seem to gloom, and the blues come in like its been back in the act again.
Operating in a different mindframe requires learning how to use a different energy to push you forward. Its about learning to channel the things in life that give you pain and put it into a place that is very good for yourself and others around you🙋🏻‍♂️

Out of my own survival, I have learned to master putting dark times, hard moments, and every emotion that accompanies this into a small box in my head that opens up when I need an extra kick to move forward🙇🏻‍♂️

It is true that earlier in my life I spent a lot of days so depressed that I didn’t think I had the energy to get out of bed, but still, I laced on my shoes and ran. Even if it was just a mile, it was enough to have an acute anti-depressant effect, and in many ways it was mind and body working together to resist the ideology and state of being to just give up🙌🏻

Your footsteps will last if you step in the mud. Its time to make your mark in the world and not let the things in your mind that hold you back become the things around you that you feel you can’t overcome.
Its a mental game. It involves compassion, but it involves a different kind of drive. The kind where you gotta learn to move forward in the dark, not always knowing when or where you are going to trip and fall, and just trusting that you are going to be okay. A kind of walking that is deeply uncomfortable🙇🏻‍♂️

Hey everyone. 👋 Thank you for understanding my lack of posts recently. My IPad stopped working and once it started back up again, I decided to give myself a much-needed break & it feels good! 💕
In light of the recent devastating news surrounding Caroline Flack and her suicide, I wanted to remind people that kindness truly does (and will) save many peoples lives. Kindness will not cure depression. But it may help somebody who is in an extremely dark place not take their own life or make give them the push they need to get help. Please remember this.
