One word that is so over looked. WHY? Weight is no reflection of health. Eat CUCUMBERS! •

Cucumbers are not only for the spa 😉although they are great there too 🥰 Their high water content promotes hydration! This refreshing and nutritious food is a great low calorie option that contains a good punch of soluble fiber, vitamins and minerals and has antioxidant properties. •

Add cucumbers to salads, cut them into spears and dip them into a low-fat dip (I go for Greek yogurt), cut them up and sprinkle salt and lots of lemon, add them to your water... SO many ways to eat cucumbers! •

Chilllleeee...what’s one good book that you COULD. NOT. PUT DOWN. in 2019? 📚⁠

For me, it was The Eating Instinct by journalist & author, Virginia Sole-Smith (v_solesmith). If I could screenshot the whole book and put it on IG stories, I would. In this book, Virginia visits kitchen tables around America to tell her own story, as well as the stories of women recovering from weight loss surgery, of people who eat only nine foods, of families with unlimited grocery budgets and those on food stamps. The book is a deep dive into how we all learn to eat in today’s toxic food culture. Virginia’s approach is relatable, non-judgemental and really resonated with us.⁠

In today’s episode we discuss:⁠

✔️ How Virginia got into this work (it started when her newborn stopped eating) and how Virginia’s relationship with food evolved throughout the years⁠
✔️How social media has contributed to our heightened stress around food⁠
✔️How to navigate food issues with kids, especially for parents who are struggling to try to get their little ones to try new foods⁠
✔️For moms navigating their own body issues, she talks about things you can do to make sure you’re not projecting that onto your kids⁠

M e a l p r e p. Do you do it❓ I have to admit, it's not for everyone. It really depends on your eating habits and lifestyle. I find it has been working really well for me lately and it fits into my lifestyle at the moment. So far it has ✔️saved me a lot of money, ✔️very convenient (grab and go when I leave the house), and I ✔️ never go hungry. I spend one day (usually Sundays) to go grocery shopping and prepare all the meals (4x lunch, 4x breakfast, snacks). When planning, I make sure to have all my food groups for balance - grains (brown rice, etc), leafy and non leafy vegetables (kale, squash), protein (lentils, beans, eggs), fruits as snacks, and plant milk/yogurt as dairy. Satisfaction doesn’t always come from the nutrient breakdown of a food.

Is protein satiating? Yes.

Is it always satisfying? No.

Are sugary snacks satiating? Not always.

Are they emotionally satisfying? Yes.

Balancing physical and emotional needs when it comes to food can feel difficult and strange.

Dieting has taught us that we should always choose a yogurt over candy. We feel good when we make a choice based on nutrition but we feel bad when we base it on a craving.

That mindset is what leads to late night bingeing on the very food we spent all day avoiding.

If you’re struggling with eating the foods you’ve avoided all day at night...it’s time to allow them throughout the day.

Tiroid bezi trakeanın her iki tarafına yerleşmiş iki lob ve bağlayıcı bir kısımdan oluşan endokrin bir bezdir. Hayati birçok fonksiyonun gerçekleşmesi için gerekli olan tiroid hormonlarının sentezini sağlar.

Hipotiroid ise, tiroid hormonunun çeşitli nedenlerle yeterli düzeyde salgılanmaması sonucu oluşur.

Encontra las diferencias: a la hora de almorzar o cenar siempre surge la duda, mi plato es hipercalórico? .
1️⃣ Algo que no me canso de repetir es que agreguen vegetales a sus platos, eso reduce mucho el aporte calórico.

2️⃣ La cantidad de grasas: puede ser palta, aceite de oliva o semillas. Si comes de más cualquiera de ellos, tu plato va a pasar a aportarte de 100 a 300 cal más por darle un extra de sabor con aceite o mayonesa (por dar un ejemplo). Cuidar también la forma de cocción, que sea preferiblemente al horno, plancha, salteado o hervido. Usar siempre spray vegetal o aceite en aerosol, sino pasar el aceite con una servilleta. .
3️⃣ La cantidad de hidratos que agregamos al plato, ya sea arroz, papa, fideos, tienen un aporte alto de cal reemplazarlo con más vegetales es una buena opción.

Having a new baby is such a hard task especially when talking about breastfeeding and how this task will be accomplished successfully.

Why do we care about breastfeeding?
Breastfeeding is the best way to feed your baby by giving him/her the greatest nutrition of all times and building up the maternal bond between the mother and child. .
Breastfeeding must happen in the 2 hours after the delivery, and all woman have milk except if she doesn't feed the baby, he won't get along with the feeding process and will need formula milk.

Breastfeeding must be done for at least 6 months and end up at 12 months. Some mothers keep feeding for 2-4 years. These first 6 months of breastfeeding protect your baby from sickness by giving him perfect immunity to fight bacteria and interfering with bacterial gut. .
Not only this, but lower risk of developing asthma, type 1 diabetes, food allergies and obesity.

A lot of women are afraid about breastfeeding because of breast sagging and the breast won't get the normal shape back, but this is a myth. The real reason about breast sagging is pregnancy weight gain, and the best way to prevent sagging is by using natural oils like almond oil, argan oil..

Still feeling like I have a bajillion things to do before baby comes. But decided to set that all aside this past weekend and spend our two days off together on the best babymoon staycation.

We explored and ate our way around Spokane and really soaked up the time for just the two of us. It’s hard to believe that won’t be the case for like...the next two decades at least 😳

We ate soooo much delicious food and had a beautiful stay at the Davenport Grand. You can check out all our babymoon details in my highlight and recreate it for yourself-whether you’re visiting Spokane or just want a fun weekend getaway!

So the very first story I am going to tell you guys is of this man @syedhussain.shah.54. He proved that with continuous struggle and hard work you can achieve your goals.
Obviously it took him time but he remained constant and worked hard.
His initial weight was 76 kgs and in the period of 4 months he made it to 64kgs.
He has such a hectic routine but still he managed to earn time for his work out and controlled all of his cravings but some days he just lost control and ate like I have made him to eat nothing at all 😂 but still he did it so anyone can. 💫2/3 S.B ( 60 g)Yulaf Ezmesi ( Rondoda un haline getirdim.)
💫4 Adet ( 40 g) Hurma ( Sıcak suda beklettim)
💫3 Y.K ( 20 g) Süt
💫2 Y.K ( 13 g) Zeytinyağı 💫1 tutam tuz ve tarçın

Üzeri için;
💫3 Y.K (25 g) Tahin
💫1,5 Y.K ( 15 g) Bal

👩🏼‍🍳 Un haline getirdiğim yulafları diğer malzemelerle karıştırıp elimle şekil vererek fırın kağıdına koydum. ⏱Önceden ısıtılmış 160 derece fırında 10 dk kadar pişirdim. Daha sonra tahin ve balı karıştırıp tart hamurunun üzerine döktüm. Cevizleri küçük küçük doğradıktan sonra onları da ilave ettim ve 10 dk kadar yine pişirdim. ———————————————————————————

😋For tart with Tahini and Honey;
1 Serving;
•🤫112,5 Kcal/ 10,8 g Carb./ 3,1 g Prot./ 6,2 g Fat/ 1,5 g Fibre
•Totally 6 serving.
⚡️I made a tart dough with a diameter of about 10 cm. You can make larger pies by increasing the amounts proportionally.
Ingredients;
For tart dough;
⚡️2/3 Cup (60 g) Oat ( I turned it into flour with the help of rondo)
⚡️4 Piece (40 g) Date ( I kept it in hot water)
⚡️3 tbsp ( 20 g) Milk
⚡️2 tbsp ( 13 g) olive oil
⚡️1 pinch of salt and cinnamon

For the above;
⚡️3 tbsp ( 25 g) Tahini
⚡️1,5 tbsp ( 15 g) Honey
⚡️2 whole walnuts
👩🏼‍🍳I mixed the oats that I made into flour with other ingredients and shaped them by hand and put them on baking paper.⏱I baked in a preheated 160 degree oven for about 10 minutes. Then I mixed tahini and honey and poured it on the tart dough. After chopping the walnuts, I added them and cooked again for about 10 minutes.

👩🏼‍🍳 Un haline getirdiğim yulafları diğer malzemelerle karıştırıp elimle şekil vererek fırın kağıdına koydum. ⏱Önceden ısıtılmış 160 derece fırında 10 dk kadar pişirdim. Daha sonra tahin ve balı karıştırıp tart hamurunun üzerine döktüm. Cevizleri küçük küçük doğradıktan sonra onları da ilave ettim ve 10 dk kadar yine pişirdim. ———————————————————————————

1 Serving;
•🤫112,5 Kcal/ 10,8 g Carb./ 3,1 g Prot./ 6,2 g Fat/ 1,5 g Fibre
•Totally 6 serving.
⚡️I made a tart dough with a diameter of about 10 cm. You can make larger pies by increasing the amounts proportionally.
Ingredients;
For tart dough;
⚡️2/3 Cup (60 g) Oat ( I turned it into flour with the help of rondo)
⚡️4 Piece (40 g) Date ( I kept it in hot water)
⚡️3 tbsp ( 20 g) Milk
⚡️2 tbsp ( 13 g) olive oil
⚡️1 pinch of salt and cinnamon

For the above;
⚡️3 tbsp ( 25 g) Tahini
⚡️1,5 tbsp ( 15 g) Honey
⚡️2 whole walnuts
👩🏼‍🍳I mixed the oats that I made into flour with other ingredients and shaped them by hand and put them on baking paper.⏱I baked in a preheated 160 degree oven for about 10 minutes. Then I mixed tahini and honey and poured it on the tart dough. After chopping the walnuts, I added them and cooked again for about 10 minutes.

Nope...I guess we don't all agree.

This RD has lots of opinion but little research to back up vague claims. I'm sad to say that dietitians are NOT the place to go for nutrition information. There are some wonderful dieticians who follow me, you know who you are😁 and I respect them very much because I know they had to take it upon themselves to continue their education and learn how the body works and how foods can interact with it on a much deeper level.

This article has some good points but mostly it's the same cookie cutter advice to go more plant based and eliminate red meat despite no high quality evidence to show that approach works on a population level. Can some people thrive on less meat and more plants? Sure. Is it optimal, in my opinion, not for most. High quality animal nutrition is not just benign, it is a superior nutrient source in a bioavailable form for the human animal! Yes that's right we are animals.

She arbitrarily tells us that vegan and vegetarian diets show "healthier" markers in the blood and urine than non vegetarian/vegans...never names the markers or cites research...this is opinion, not science or fact. On the evidence pyramid...pretty low!

This is why people are confused. When experts take things for granted as fact even though there is no unbiased consensus, this makes the problem worse. We shouldn't be parroting traditional beliefs, we should be forging new ground.
Once upon a time the experts took for granted the earth was flat and you were a fool if you thought otherwise...maybe it's time to dump some of this old nutrition dogma off the egde of your flat earth?

“Food has the ability to tell the story of a destination, its landscapes, local history and cultural heritage on a single plate.” ✨I read this quote on a menu while traveling last year and it struck me as so beautiful. The cultural significance of food and its roots is something I’ve been thinking more about lately. It’s amazing the way a set of colors, flavors and textures can take us somewhere beyond our immediate surroundings. Trying dishes from cultures other than your own (when you have the ability) is a wonderful way to expand your palette and expand your world. Όταν το πρόγραμμά μας είναι φορτωμένο και ο χρόνος μας περιορισμένος, κακά τα ψέματα, συχνά καταφεύγουμε στα αγαπημένα μας μακαρόνια! 🍝 Έχετε δοκιμάσει τα ολικής άλεσης ζυμαρικά; Σας πληροφορώ ότι έχουν ελάχιστη διαφορά στη γεύση από τα λευκά και μας προσφέρουν καλύτερη γλυκαιμική απόκριση και καλύτερη γαστρεντερική λειτουργία. Αξίζει να τα δοκιμάσετε και έστω να τα καταλώνετε μια στο τόσο έναντι των λευκών. Όσον αφορά τη σάλτσα, εγώ είχα σπιτική πέστο βασιλικού (δεν την εφτιαξα εγώ 🤭). Προσοχή όμως! ‼Πρόκειται για μια ιδιαίτερα θερμιδική σάλτσα και καλό είναι να είμαστε φειδωλοί. Ενδεικτικά, τα 100γρ. προσδίδουν περίπου 450kcal! ‼ Και όταν η σάλτσα είναι αγορασμένη απο το σούπερ μάρκετ έχει μεταξύ άλλων και πολυ αλάτι. 🧂

Sosu için;

1 tatlı kaşığı bal veya keçiboynuzu özü
Bitter çikolata (isteğe bağlı)

Yapılışı
Yumurta ve keçiboynuzu özünü çırpıyoruz. Çırptıktan sonra süt ve ardından diğer katı malzemeleri ekliyoruz. Önceden ısıtılmış fırında 180 C’ de 25-30 dakika pişiriyoruz. Sosu için süt, kakao ve keçiboynuzu özünü karıştırarak pişiriyoruz. Kek fırından çıktıktan sonra sosun iyice çekmesi için kekin yanlarını bıçakla açıyoruz ve sosu üzerine döküyoruz. Eğer isterseniz bitter çikolatayı benmari usulü eritip üzerine dökebilirsiniz. Afiyet olsun.❤️

It’s really okay if you don’t enjoy running.

You can still be an active person with movement and fitness goals without forcing yourself to run if you don’t enjoy it.
I used to think of running and half marathons as the epitome of “fitness”. Just like I incorrectly assumed there was a “perfect” way to eat, I wrongly believed running was by far and wide the best form of movement.

1.) that is so not true. Our bodies enjoy and reap the benefits of movement of all kinds.
2.) if your movement routine (running included) contributes more stress to your day or is a part of your eating disorder or poor body image....more running isn’t going to fix it. In fact it could be worse for your overall health by adding more stress, anxiety or guilt.
3.) just because Jenny at work is running a half marathon, doesn’t mean you need to, too. Seriously.
🏃🏽 That said, I’m not here to bash running, in fact I personally enjoy it (periodically, and once I took a long break from it to re-evaluate my intentions). But if you’re feeling pressure to be a runner, and it just doesn’t feel good to you, then that’s really, really okay. Remember the saying we love around here? “Good for you, not for me.” 👍 there are PLENTY of other ways to move your body that don’t involve running. Boxing, hiking, biking, weight lifting, walking, climbing, rollerblading, yoga, Zumba, pole dance, gardening, rowing, the list goes on. If you ask yourself “would I still be wanting to do this if it had no ability to change my body?”, and answer “yes”, then you’re on the right track. Movement doesn’t have to be painful or dreadful. It can be something you genuinely look forward to ✨🥰

Hummus vs Lite Salad Dressing Calories: Both options are 60 calories for 2 tablespoons! I don’t know about you, but I prefer a spoonful of hummus on top of my salads for easier transport to work. I shake the salad up when lunchtime comes, and I’m ready to go without the salad dressing mess exploding in my lunchbox before noontime. What's your thoughts on supplemental micronutrients?? Micronutrients are one of the most important nutrients required by our body. Micronutrients, made up of vitamins and minerals are essential. They assist the body with its physiological functions.

Vitamins are essential for energy production, improving the immune system - helps prevent colds and flu's and also aids in blood clotting with many other functions such as optimising wound healing.

Minerals on the other hand are essential for growth, bone health and and fluid balance.

We get most of our micronutrients from the foods we eat especially in our fruits and vegetables as they are packed with nutritious vitamins and minerals. It's always good to enjoy diverse fruit and vegetables, thus increasing your intake to all types of vitamins and minerals known.
Micronutrient supplementation I.e. in the form of tablets and/or syrups is not necessary if your diet is rich in micronutrients. However for vegetarians and vegans some micronutrient intake may be limited such as iron, calcium and vitamin B12 as they are mostly main sourced in animal products, but can be found in some plant and fortified products such as soya. Thus extra intake is required to ensure they are getting enough.

If you do take a micronutrient supplement it's always best to check that your vitamins and minerals are meeting 70% or greater of the RDA (recommended daily allowance) to ensure that you are receiving an optimal dose). The RDA can be found at the back of the bottle.

Σύμφωνα με τον Παγκόσμιο Οργανισμό Υγείας (WHO), η Υπέρταση (γνωστή και ως Υψηλή Αρτηριακή Πίεση) αποτελεί μία κατάσταση κατά την οποία τα αιμοφόρα αγγεία έχουν συνεχώς αυξημένη πίεση. Το αίμα μεταφέρεται από την καρδία σε όλα τα μέρη του σώματος μέσω των αιμοφόρων αγγείων. Κάθε φορά που η καρδία κτυπά, αντλεί αίμα σε όλα τα αιμοφόρα αγγεία. Η αρτηριακή πίεση δημιουργείται από την δύναμη με την οποία το αίμα ωθείται στα αιμοφόρα αγγεία (αρτηρίες) από την καρδία. Crazy right?? I almost didn’t believe it either! ⁣

But this is why the diet industry is a billion-dollar industry.⁣

Because their diets aren’t designed to work. They are designed to fail so that you will keep running back to them for their next “quick fix” that will also likely fail.⁣

Diets don’t work for many reasons:⁣
🍊Diets are just rules – they are strict meal plans and food groups, not much flexibility here.⁣

🍊Diets cause cravings – restricting foods = deprivation = overeating = guilt = repeat⁣

Zayıflama çayları, hapları, jelleri ve benzeri birçok ürün maalesef şu an piyasada bulunuyor ve insanların kolay yoldan zayıflamak için bu ürünleri tercih etmesi beni çok üzüyor. Şunu kesin bir şekilde söylemek isterim ki o ürünlerle kalıcı kilo kaybedemeyeceksiniz. Başta belki kilo vereceksiniz ama beslenme alışkanlıklarınızı sağlıklı yönde değiştirmedikçe o kiloları misliyle geri alacaksınız. Bu artık bir sektör haline dönüşmüş, nasıl daha fazla para kazanabiliriz diye bakıyorlar ve gerçekten ciddi paralar dönüyor. Emin olun o işi yapanlar sizin sağlınızı asla önemsemiyor. Zayıflamayı geçtim ölümle bile sonuçlanan ciddi yan etkileri bulunuyor. Ben bu ürünlerle kilo vermiş ve uzun zaman o kiloyu korumuş ve sağlığı bozulmamış kimse görmedim 🙃 Ayrıca eğer bu ürünler bu kadar sağlıklı bir şekilde kilo verdiriyorsa dünyada obezite neden her geçen gün artıyor. Acaba dünya sağlık örgütünün bu ürünlerden haberi mi yok ?

Dreaming of tropical climates as I eat this perfectly ripe Mango 🥭 and watch the dissatisfying snow ❄️ fall in the unforgiving Midwest 😂
Our lovely chef at work is from Ecuador, and told me he could literally go on a walk, see a mango/ pineapple🍍tree, pick off a piece of fruit and eat it fresh. WHAT?! How neat is that?
Fruit is an amazing way to get micronutrients (vitamins and minerals) that support the health of the body. Let's talk Tropical fruits 😍 🥭🥑🌴🍍🍹🏝️
💛Mangoes are loaded with vitamin C, a nutrient that helps wounds heal, promotes healthy gums and keeps your immune system strong. One-half cup of sliced mangoes provides more than two-thirds of the vitamin C children under 13 need per day. All you momma's out there, can someone say heck yeah?
💗Guava (looks like a mini watermelon inside) has up to 3g of fiber in it! 💩 It's definitely exotic to us, but see if you can find it at your local grocery store! 🧡Papayas are pink-orange fruits that provide vitamin A through a potent form of beta-carotene for healthy skin and eyes. Get this! The form of beta-carotene in papayas may be even easier for our bodies to use than the kind in carrots or tomatoes. UM OKAY. Fat in a meal or snack increases the amount of beta-carotene the body absorbs, so pairing papaya with avocados helps!
💚Avocados ARE a fruit believe it or not! They have heart-friendly nutrients monounsaturated fat and vitamin E, and are a smart pick for cardiovascular health. Try them at breakfast with your eggs and toast!
Okay doesn't this make you want to go out and buy/ try some tropical fruits?! I've never tried Guava or Papayas but I think I'll swing by the store this cold afternoon for a tropical pick-me-up! Hopefully these fruits will help those of us trapped in winter for a couple more months to have some happy Summer vibes 🧡💚💛 .

高碳水化合物(高澱粉)、
高油脂、高鈉含量的1餐

雖然我不愛吃生菜,但是這麼多醬料且重口味的食物,真的要有生菜 來解膩 比較好,而不是只有生洋蔥⋯⋯

Happy Wednesday everyone! I am happy to share that Thrive Nutrition will now be posting recipes every Wednesday. To kick off recipe Wednesday we have a delicious minestrone soup, great for chilly days!
HEARTY MINESTRONE SOUP
prep time: 15 minutes
cook time: 45 minutes
total time: 1 hour

Servings: 6
Ingredients:

2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
1 onion, chopped
2 medium carrots, peeled and chopped
2 ribs celery, chopped
½ cup tomato sauce (e.g. marinara)
1 large sweet potato, diced
1 cup green beans, cut in 1-inch lengths
4 cloves garlic, minced
½ teaspoon dried oregano
½ teaspoon dried thyme
1 large can (28 ounces) sodium-free diced tomatoes, with liquid 
4 cups (900 mL) sodium-free vegetable broth
2 cups water
1 teaspoon salt
2 bay leaves
Pinch of cayenne
Freshly ground black pepper
1 cup whole grain elbow pasta or quinoa
1 can sodium-free red kidney beans or cannellini (white kidney) beans, rinsed and drained
3 large handfuls baby greens (baby spinach, kale or arugula)
Freshly grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
Directions:
1. Warm 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the onion, carrot, celery, tomato sauce and a pinch of salt. Cook, stirring often, until the vegetables have softened, about 7 to 10 minutes.
2. Add the vegetables, garlic, oregano and thyme. Cook, stirring frequently, for 2 minutes.
3. Add the diced tomatoes, broth, water, salt, bay leaves and cayenne. Add black pepper to taste.
4. Bring to a boil over medium heat, then partially cover the pot with a lid. Reduce heat to simmer.
5. Cook for 15 minutes, remove the lid and add the pasta or quinoa and green beans. Continue simmering, uncovered, for 20 minutes or until the pasta or quinoa is cooked.
6. Remove the pot from the heat, remove the bay leaves, and stir in baby greens. Taste and season with more salt and pepper to taste. Garnish bowls of soup with grated Parmesan.

When my daughter was born, after her one week check up with the pediatrician, I called my mom to tell her how everything went. I mentioned that I was going to the drug store to get vitamin D supplements for the baby. My mother, who exclusively breastfed my 4 siblings and I, and was a La Leche League leader, was dumbfounded. “Why on earth does a breastfed baby need vitamin D?”, she wanted to know.
Over the next few years, as I became more educated and focused on lactation in my career, that same question kept coming up.

Who here is a 'throw together breakfast eater'? One of my favorite foods to make on a slow weekend morning are breakfast sandwiches. OMG they're so good. But I don't take the time to make something at home during the week unless I have zero quick breakfast ideas. But that hasn't happened in a while because I now have these freezer friendly breakfast sandwiches on hand. It's a great excuse to look forward to getting my butt out of my warm bed in the morning and a great way to start the day. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Instead of making individual eggs and bacon for these, because that takes time, I made an egg casserole with bacon and kale because it's delish and added cheese. This egg sandwich is fluffy, cheesy, salty, and oh so delicious. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Crack 6 eggs in a medium mixing bowl. Pour 1/2 c of milk, 1/2 tsp, and 1/4 tsp black pepper into bowl. Whisk together until eggs are smooth and all ingredients are incorporated.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
2. Spray cooking spray or butter 8x8 baking pan. Pour egg mixture into pan. Cover with 3-4 washed kale leaves and 3-4 slices of bacon. Bake for 20 minutes.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
3. When 10 minutes remain in cooking time, place 4 slices of cheddar cheese on top of egg mixture.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
4. Cook 10 more minutes. Check temperature with thermometer. Eggs are done when they reach 165 degrees.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
5. Flip eggs onto cutting board and cut into 6 slices. Freeze until use.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
6. When ready to eat, microwave eggs for 30-60 seconds, or until warm and toast an English muffin. Assemble and eat immediately.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

There are many buzzwords these days about healthy eating--macronutrients and micronutrients being just a few. All foods we eat are comprised of these two nutrient categories: micronutrients and macronutrients.⁠

The two are differentiated by the quantity our bodies need. Micronutrients are vitamins and minerals we need small volumes of (think iron, vitamin E, sodium, calcium, vitamin D and so on). Each micronutrient has a different amount needed to keep our bodies functioning. Consuming a wide variety of foods is a good way to ensure we are meeting the necessary quantity. Do you know the difference between choking and gagging? It's an important distinction to know!⁠

Gagging can be common in those first few months of eating, but it isn't necessarily a bad thing! Gagging is actually your baby's way of preventing choking, as it helps to get the piece of food out of their mouth before they choke on it.⁠

Choking happens when a food makes it past your baby's gag reflex, and ends up in their windpipe.⁠

Most of what people call choking is actually gagging! Gagging can be very dramatic, have your baby end up with a red face, lots of coughing, and can even result in vomiting. It's not pretty, no. But it's not choking.⁠

When your baby is gagging, the best thing you can do is let them figure it out! Don't show them you're scared, don't show them you're anxious, don't get up and pat them on the back. Just let them work it out themselves!⁠

If your baby is choking, it is often a much quieter event. They might turn blue, have a little cough that really doesn't function to get anything out, but they generally don't make noise! If this is happening, then you need to intervene immediately. Regardless of what method you are using to feed your baby (purees OR baby led weaning), someone should be CPR certified in your house, or at the very least know what to do when choking occurs.⁠

Hands down the best way to prevent choking is to use safe feeding practices. Knowing how to cut and prepare foods is so important! If you're feeling at all unsure about this and are doing baby led weaning or serving finger foods, grab my starting solids course. It goes through everything that you need to know to serve SAFE food that will help your child to thrive!⁠

Curious about how to clean our Swedish Dish Cloths?!

We have received a lot of questions about this lately. So, we are dropping our 🖤 top cleaning tips 👇
.
✓ Top rack of your dishwasher. This is by far the most convenient way to disenfect the cloths/sponges. Make sure to use the heated dry cycle to kill any bacteria. Washing is recommended 1x week or more depending upon use. Simply lay flat to dry and reuse!
✓ Soak sponge in a mixture of 1/2 cup of water and and 1 tsp of lemon juice. Make sure it is soaked. Then place the sponge on a small plate in the microwave. Heat for 1-2 minutes (this will vary depending on microwave watts). Once finished, allow to cool and lay flat to dry. Your sponge will be disenfected and smell 🍋🍋🍋 fresh!
✓ Toss your sponge in the washing machine! But, do not place it in the dryer. Simply lay flat to dry and reuse.

Once your cloth has served it's full life (~3-6 months) don't forget to compost it ♻️

Even though it’d be incredible to have a simple, universal fix for our health issues, that’s usually not how it goes

Just remember that you are a whole person! Nutrition may come easy to you and it may not. That’s okay!

It’s all about finding what works for YOU and YOUR body. Your answer to each of these circles is going to be vastly different depending on who you are, where you live, your family, your income, your lifestyle etc.

Why are kids developing earlier? Some scientists believe the increase in childhood obesity may lead to earlier puberty. Dr. Frank Biro from the University of Cincinnati points out a fattier diet and more food may be largely responsible for girls developing earlier. Observational studies link higher body mass index or increased body fatness with earlier puberty. Puberty is the preparation of the body to begin supporting reproduction. A body that has received more nutrition over time reaches that point earlier. Hormones from meat or milk aren’t causing that - kids are developing earlier because they’re eating more calories.

Why are kids developing earlier? Some scientists believe the increase in childhood obesity may lead to earlier puberty. Dr. Frank Biro from the University of Cincinnati points out a fattier diet and more food may be largely responsible for girls developing earlier. Observational studies link higher body mass index or increased body fatness with earlier puberty. Puberty is the preparation of the body to begin supporting reproduction. A body that has received more nutrition over time reaches that point earlier. Hormones from meat or milk aren’t causing that - kids are developing earlier because they’re eating more calories.

Toplum olarak bir çok konuda gerginiz. Devamlı gıdaların bize nasıl yaramadığı ile ilgili gündemi tartışıp duruyoruz. Hatta öyle ki “ahh şimdiki yediklerimizin hiç biri besleyici değil!” cümlesi dilimize dolanır oldu.

Bu konu ile ilgili American Society for Nutrition’nun Ağustos 2019’da “Çevresel ve psikolojik stresin vücuttaki mikrobesin konsantrasyonu üzerine etkisi” üzerine yayınladığı çok güzel bir derleme mevcut. Derlemede geçmişten Mart 2019’a kadar bu konu ile ilgilili yapılan tüm insan ve hayvan çalışmaları incelenmiş

Yayınlanan derlemede mikrobesinler olarak daha çok magnezyum,çinko,kalsiyum, demir ve niyasin üzerinde duruyor.Araştırma stresin daha çok magnezyum ve çinko eksikliklerinde etkili olduğunu gösteriyor.Fakat bazı çalışmalar stresin kalsiyum ve demir konsantrasyonlarında da etkili olduğunu göstermekte!

Ama stresli zamanlarda yükselen hormonların, besin emilimini ve atılımını etkileyebileceği söylenmekte! Diğer bir yandan bunun oksidatif stres ve inflamasyon sebepli de olabileceği belirtiliyor.Hatta bağırsak florasını da bozabileceğinden emilimin olumsuz etkilenebileceği söyleniyor.

Balance...Like when you see all the dessert posts on my stories, you should know there were multiple whole food based meals and lots of veggies in between those treats. There was also lots of training and an appropriate calorie intake. 😁 No major restrictions, no all-or-nothing mindsets, and no “good vs bad” labeling. That goes for most things in life, not just food. #balancedlife #flexibledietetics .

mac and cheese with broccoli or as @nutrition.by.rd would call it- MAC and TREES 🥦 a super simple way to give any meal a nutrition boost is to add vegetables. i pulled these broccoli out of the freezer and added to boxed mac and cheese to up the fiber and micronutrient content. // plant based @eatbanza mac and cheese with broccoli. verdict on the mac and cheese since i know people will be very curious!- i thought it was good but i like the original cheesy banza mac better. because i eat boxed mac and cheese pretty infrequently and have no issues with dairy, i’ll probably stick with the original. however if you don’t eat dairy / are trying to cut back then this is a good option! #plantbased #macandcheese #macandtrees

I talked to a 94 year old health coaching participant a few years ago who was STILL working in management. I asked what his secret to long life was and he told me “Blueberries for breakfast and keeping a positive attitude.”⁣

No idea what he’s up to these days, but I remember him Every.Single.Time I eat blueberries for breakfast.⁣
