    Summer Sangria 
Ingredients
1 bottle red wine
1/2 cup brandy/cognac
lemon juice
apple, thinly sliced
1/4 cup brown sugar
2 liters lemon-lime soda
ice

Method 
In a large pitcher, combine red wine, brandy/cognac and the juice of 2 lemons and 2 oranges.

Add thinly sliced apples, lemons, and oranges. Stir in brown sugar, or more if needed. Cover with cling wrap; chill overnight.

Before serving, pour half into another pitcher, then add ice. Fill each pitcher with 1 liter lemon-lime soda. Adjust sweetness if needed.

    When @bernadettefilm asked me to come up with a recipe for Pink Penguin, I immediately jumped at the opportunity. Ping Penguin is a mysterious drink mentioned in the book "Where’d You Go, Bernadette", but nobody knows about its official recipe. Many people tried to create the recipe but I was not satisfied with any of them.

So, who is Bernadette anyway? She is the character in the book, who is a mid-aged woman with a lovely family.  One day, she just disappeared, and much of the narratives were through her family trying to find her whereabouts. Bernadette has become compelled to reconnect with her creative passions and went on an epic adventure in Antarctica and found work in the Palmer Station.

The character of Bernadette really resonates with me. I don't really talk about much about myself on social media. But it has been precisely one year since I dove into photography as a full-time career, moving away from a successful and promising tech career.  I am far from where I want to be eventually, but it is finally at a point I am happy with my decision one year ago. I love the feeling of being a beginner in my field because the upcoming scene is unknown; hence it is far more attractive. I feel fortunate to be able to pursue my passion and take a very unconventional path, especially in Silicon Valley.

Here is the one Pink Penguin drink I created, to celebrate Bernadette, myself, and everybody else who takes a step towards what you want to do.  Don't' get fooled by its pink appearance; Pink Penguin is packed with flavors.

The Adventure of the Pink Penguin 🐧 
1 oz Sipsmith gin @sipsmith
0.5 oz aquavit
0.5 rhubarb gin liqueur @edinburghgin
0.5 oz Dollin blanc
0.5 oz lemon
3 drops of  Green Chartreuse elixir
One stock of rhubarb for muddling

In addition to the book, the movie "Where’d You Go, Bernadette" is now opened wide this week, starring Cate Blanchett. I am hoping you enjoy the movie, perhaps while sipping this Pink Penguin!

• 22ml/¾oz Belsazar Riesling Vermouth
• 22ml/¾oz Giffard Pomegranate Liqueur
• 45ml/1,5oz Dry Tonic
Stir first three ingredients briefly with ice / Strain in coupe / Top with cold tonic / Express and discard lemon twist !

When all of a sudden you hear that today's the first International #ScottishGin Day 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 you set everything aside and go with that flow!🤗 Especially if you had just received a bottle of Hendrick's limited edition 'Midsummer Solstice' and accompanying glassware to play with! (Which, I'd say, were perfect for the celebration!).💮 The Gin itself is quite floral and sweet, yet maintains a bold bitterness 🌸 three characteristics I wanted to highlight in today's drink!

Confession: The cocktail was never intended to have this stunning hue/gradient!🙊 There was a sudden natural reaction when the mix got topped with the tonic ✨ which was especially visible when shot from a low angle.📸 It reminded me of some sort of Aurora, hence the name of the drink.🍹 Oh well, sometimes it all works out 😄 a magical hue like this perfectly fits the peculiar curiosity-vibe Hendrick's is known for! ❤️ Drinkstagram, happy weekend!

Excellence is something that is universally attractive.  When things are done well, it sits well with everyone.  For cocktails, it doesn’t get better than when a cocktail is created and presented in a state of excellence.
The worst part isn’t when a drink is done terribly…often that is due to ignorance; the worst is when it is done in mediocrity.  Mediocrity is often a product of a lack of effort, not a lack of knowledge.
Perhaps the cocktail that has been regulated to a near perpetual state of mediocrity is the daiquiri - especially the strawberry flavored ones.  So, today’s cocktail is an attempt to rescue the strawberry daiquiri from the prison of average.
Very well aged rum is the base to provide this cocktail with real depth of flavor.  The lime juice has to be freshly squeezed so as to avoid any mechanical, artificial notes in the drink.  Then fresh strawberries are cooked into a real syrup that has touch of vanilla in it.  Fresh basil comes in as the best supporting actress - basil just makes everything better.
This isn’t complicated; you don’t need an advanced degree in mixology.  All you need is a desire to do things right and the effort to see it through.

1 ounce Fresh squeezed lime juice
3/4 ounce Fresh strawberry vanilla syrup
4 drops Wisecraft Lemon basil bitters
2 ripe strawberries and a few basil leaves

Place the two hulled strawberries and basil leaves in the bottom of the shaker and muddle well.  Add the rest of the ingredients, along with some ice, and shake very well.  Double strain into a chilled fluted glass, and garnish with one basil leaf.  Enjoy!
