Today, Meli-Jean's kindy teacher told me that when asked where she lives, Meli-Jean always replies, "Earth". She even says, "My new house is in Burleigh Waters, Earth". It's cute and funny... But it's also really insightful. If adults and world leaders alike worked from this perspective, our Earth would be in a better state. And I would argue that all human's would be too.

The Earth's lungs have been on fire for weeks and what is being done??!? Please read and take action on some of the ways to help... The Earth... OUR HOME.

    〰️〰️Everything is Connected〰️〰️
This is a mantra I’ve firmly believed in for years now. It’s a fundamental belief that I’ve developed from my understanding of the world and its energetics since I was a kid prancing around gardens feeling completely in awe of and connected to Earth’s bounty.

What do I mean by saying ‘we are one, and everything is connected’? Is it just some vague woo woo talk, or is there science to back it up? Yes to the ladder.
If you know me, you know I’m someone who believes in science, but also revels in believing in what we cannot see aka I’m spiritual. Science and spirituality are more connected than ever before with the discovery of quantum mechanics. The movie that opened my eyes to this new way of thinking was ‘What the Bleep do we know?!’ What we now know from quantum physics is that life at a super micro level has totally different laws of physics than the macro level! We are all just energy fields operating in a larger energy field. This is why I believe in something bigger than myself, and why I know everything is connected. With all of the patterns in the world like sacred geometry I would feel remiss if all of life was just a hiccup in time.
This is why I stand so firmly in protecting this great beautiful mysterious planet. How could we turn our backs on our own mother? We were born from her clay and oceans, and her fauna and flora gives us life without asking for anything in return.
Everything we have created as humans has come from her resources and we have become the abuser in this relationship.

We can also see how everything is connected by just observing simple circles of life. Humans create plastic; the plastic ends up in the ocean; the fish eat the micro-plastics; and then the humans eat the fish and slowly kill the ocean, its inhabitants, and ourselves. Ripple effect. Boomerang effect. Cause and effect. Every action we take has an effect. It’s time we start protecting our home.

Our world is literally going up in flames.

#prayforamazonia I appreciate the hashtag trending for our forests, but we can’t just pray. There’s work to do. And I know it gets overwhelming - there are so many things to worry about in the world, and our impact can feel so small, but we can all do a little better every day.
Even reading this post, and having a conversation about it (I’m always happy to talk!) is a starting point - then let’s find ways to work together to do better. Even coming to your mat and practicing kindness so you have a bit more space for thoughtfully interacting with your environment off the mat. ** Let’s talk, and move, and bring our best. ❤️✨🌳#savetheplanet #savetheearth #savetheworld #love #bethechange #yoga #dcyoga #yogateacher #environmentalist #globalforestwatch ** Early #tbt to my last trip to the Amazon in Peru.

“The center, the National Institute for Space Research, which monitors fires using satellite images, reported on Wednesday that it had detected 39,194 fires this year in the world’s largest rain forest, a 77 percent increase from the same period in 2018.

The fires, most of which have been set by farmers clearing their land, are raging in uninhabited areas of rain forest and intruding on populated areas in the country’s north, including the states of Rondônia and Acre.

The blazes are so large and widespread that smoke has wafted thousands of miles away to the Atlantic coast and São Paulo, the country’s most populous city, according to the World Meteorological Organization.” - The New York Times ⠀⠀

The Amazon provides over 20 percent of our oxygen and the worlds largest tropical rain forest. The reckless deforestation that’s currently happening should be seen as unacceptable. We need to do something. Please share this to help spread the message!!

THE AMAZON RAINFOREST IS ON FIRE!
Here's what you can do to help: 🍃 Donate to Rainforest Action Network to protect an acre of the Amazonian rainforest. 🍃 Donate to the Rainforest Trust to help buy land in the rainforest. Since 1988, the organization has saved over 23 million acres and counting. 🍃‼️ Reduce your paper and wood consumption. Double-check with Rainforest Alliance that what you're buying is rainforest-safe. You can also purchase rainforest safe products from the alliance's site. . 🍃The World Wide Fund for Nature WWF works to protect the countless species in the Amazon and around the world. 🍃‼️ Ecosia.org Ecosia is a search engine that plants a tree for every 45 searches you run. 🍃‼️‼️ Explore Change.org petitions. A lawyer in Rio Branco has accumulated over 77,000 of his 150,000 signature goal to mobilize an investigation into the Amazonian fires. . 🍃 Donate to Amazon Watch, Amazon Watch an organization that protects the rainforest, defends indigenous rights and works to address climate change. . 🍃 Donate to the Amazon Conservation Team, Amazon Conservation which works to fight climate change, protect the Amazon and empower indigenous peoples. . 🍃 Amazon Conservation accepts donations (which can be tax deductible) and lists exactly what your money goes toward. You can help plant trees, sponsor education, protect habitats, buy a solar panel, preserve indigenous lands and more. . 🍃‼️ Contact your elected officials and make your voice heard. ‼️ More than 60% of deforestation in Amazon is to make space for cattle ranching/soy plantation for animal feeds and meat industry. You may reduce/eliminate your demand on this for protest.

    Repost @ironvegan.co
"I used to be called Captain Chainsaw. Now I am Nero, setting the Amazon aflame." - Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, after stating it was "the season of the queimada", when farmers use fire to clear the land.
.
Clear the land for cultivation of feed for the billions of animals in the animal agriculture industry.
.
Changing a FB or social media status or using the #prayforamazonia does nothing except promote #FEELGOODISM, if you still choose to buy products from industries that are causing this.
.
We all have the power to do something and make tangible changes.
.
Those who have children or grandchildren should be particularly concerned for the future of their next generations.
.
I guess changing a social media status still feels like it made a huge difference to some 🤷‍♂️
.
FACT: you cannot be an environmentalist while supporting and consuming products that directly result in GLOBAL DEGRADATION - **when you clearly have alternatives**
.
"Boundless compassion for all living beings is the surest and most certain guarantee of pure moral conduct, and needs no casuistry. Whoever is filled with it will assuredly injure no one, do harm to no one, encroach on no man's rights; he will rather have regard for every one, forgive every one, help every one as far as he can, and all his actions will bear the stamp of justice and loving-kindness." - Arthur Schopenhauer

That is the Amazon rainforest from space. ON FIRE. FROM THE @nasaearth NASA SATELLITE OBSERVATORY!! The smoke is from the forest fires!! This rainforest with its trees is how we as all living things BREATHE and EXIST!! What is so damn hard about understanding that GLOBAL WARMING, not wars, not political differences, WILL KILL ALL LIVING THINGS ON THE PLANET if all us humans don't do something about it? WHERE IS THE WORLDWIDE CALL FOR DONATIONS & ASSISTANCE for this like when Notre Dame burned? EVERY SINGLE COUNTRY should do something because we are ALL connected!!!! It's amazing & EASY to recycle. It's so great to donate instead of just trashing things (check out this donation resource: https://www.thespruce.com/where-to-donate-everything-in-home-2648117. Thanks Spruce!) You are still cool if you bring your own bags to the store (thanks Montgomery County MD for the nickel to dime per bag TAX as a reminder, even at the malls)!! I'm saving up for a Tesla myself, but have no problem taking a shuttle to work. You can be gangsta & still do care about our environment! I DON'T CARE WHAT ANYONE SAYS, #globalwarmingisreal !!! #NASAimagesdontlie #Godhelpus #reusereducerecycle♻ #reducecarbonfootprint👣 #environmentalist #activist #greenhouseeffect #unacceptable

Many people are noticing news coverage of wildfires raging across countries like Russia, Greenland, and the U.S.
🔥🌲🔥🌳🔥
These fires are occurring more frequently and aggressively so far this year, and some of the most devastating fires are happening in the Amazon forest.
🐍🦋🐆🌸🐟🦎
The Amazon has had 82% more fires this year compared with the same period last year (from January to August), according to data from the Brazilian government’s National Institute for Space Research (INPE).
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
The smoke from these fires is so extensive it can be seen from space, and blacked out Brazilian cities from sunlight during the afternoon Monday August 19th.
💨💨💨💨💨
Will fires like these become the norm as our planet adjusts to the shifts in carbon caused by humans?

I have seen so many posts today, as people are learning about the Amazon Rainforest being on fire. The fact that it has been on fire for 16 days yet no major world coverage like we saw on Notre Dame just boggles my mind. This is devastating on so many levels.

It is reported that the dry season, along with actions by humans, accidentally or on purpose, is what started the fire. Farming, mining, and drilling (deforestation) are the cause. https://globalnews.ca/news/5794191/amazon-rainforest-fire-explained/

I added Greta's quote on there because it fits so well. 73,000 fires have been recorded in the Amazon Rainforest this year. That's double last year. According to Business Insider, The fires come from humans - it's the time of the year when farmers use fire to clear land - but hot, dry conditions mean fires are spreading, and President Jair Bolsonaro is actively not trying to help.

What can we do? Charity Navigator lists these charities, but be sure to do your own research before you donate.
Amazon Conservation Association
Amazon Conservation Team
Amazon Watch
Rainforest Foundation US
Rainforest Trust
Rainforest Action Network

Spreading the word and educating yourself and those around you about why this is so devastating can help. Tell others about how to avoid palm oil and why. Show them the fire and causes. Refusing palm oil is a big thing you can learn about and do that doesn't require donating. Vote with your dollars by creating demand for alternatives!

Saw a video of an indigenous woman of the amazon cry for help and in outrage because of what’s being done to her home, to Earth. As a human race we have gone too far, this Earth is not ours! Please feel free to repost to help spread awareness on what’s going on in the Amazon Rainforest right now.

With the saddest of news, the Amazon Rainforest is on fire and has been burning for the last few weeks.
Data from the INPE “Instituto Nacional de Pesquidas Espaciais”, the National Institute for Space Research in Brazil states that each minute 1 1/2 soccer fields sized areas of the Amazon rainforest are destroyed each and every single day. No information yet has been released on how much has actually been burned.

The amazon rainforest also known as the LUNGS OF THE EARTH, produce a whopping 1/5 of the oxygen we breathe!
From a CNN post published today: "Environmental activists and organizations like the World Wildlife Fund warn that if the Amazon reaches a point of no return, the rainforest could become a dry savannah, no longer habitable for much of its wildlife. If this happens, instead of being a source of oxygen, it could start emitting carbon -- the major driver of climate change.".
.
.
Awareness is so important because it gives people the knowledge on real world problems that are going on NOW. By spreading the world it also gives people power to fight for what they believe in and help side with the organizations that are desperately trying to stop what’s going on right now in Brazil. As much as may all feel helpless right now, this is the most important time to spread the word on whats going on - when mass awareness is raised thats when things start to change

I’m moving to the Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿
for my MSc in Sustainability & Adaptation Planning at CAT. I am SO EXCITED!
Ofc I’m moving via public transport 🚃. These are all my belongings, uuugh if only warm cloths didn’t take up sooo much space, I hate carrying more than a backpack (yet another benefits of public transport: no paying for luggage) 😅💔
But before Wales, a spontaneous little detour to Scotlaaaaand for an exciting project and seeing my pals 💙See you there 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 #slowtravel

Have you pledged to be flight-free (at least) for a year?
1) We are at a critical point right now, where we need to save all emissions possible!! If there is a time to do it, it’s NOW.
2) Quitting flying is a strong political message - esp. when done in a collective! We accept behavioural change/ restriction in times of Climate Crisis. It’s not always easy but we focus on what’s ecologically necessary!
3) One year, that’s the least we can do. It’s not compared to our long lifespans, but enough to rethink our established behaviours.
4) It’ll dramatically increase demand for accessible public transport, which democratic systems need to respond to!
SO MANY MORE REASONS... have you pledged to be #flightfree2020 ? Who do you challenge to join you? Tag them 🏕🚟🚲

The Amazon has been burning for weeks amid increasing deforestation. The intense smoke was detected by NASA and plunged São Paulo into darkness on Monday.
In the middle of the day on Monday, the sky above São Paulo, Brazil went dark.
The city, along with parts of the Brazilian states of Mato Grosso and Paraná, was blanketed by smoke from wildfires raging in the Amazon, according to local news reports.
Earlier this month, Amazonas (the largest state in Brazil) declared a state of emergency over the rising number of forest fires, reported Euro News. Fire season in the Amazon is just beginning—it runs from August through October, with its peak coming in mid-September, and the smoke is already so bad that it can be seen from space.
The news of these fires comes amidst reports of increased deforestation under far-right president Jair Bolsonaro, which has prompted protests at home and international concern. While the smoke from the fires threatens the health of those living nearby, more fires represent an added stressor for the Amazon rainforest as a whole.
The humidity of the Amazon has, in the past, protected it against massive fires, but drought, deforestation, and agriculture could make fires so common that they would completely alter the landscape, a 2014 study warned. According to a blog post for InfoAmazonia, Brazil’s National Institute for Space Research predicts that rainfall in the central and northern Amazon will be 40 to 50 percent below normal in the next three months.
“There is a direct relationship between increased burning and the growth of deforestation,” Faleiros wrote in the blog post. “Among the 10 municipalities that recorded the largest burnings in 2019, seven are also on the list of municipalities with the highest number of deforestation warnings.”

Nothing like some good news in the morning 🌞 👍
“German Environment Minister Svenja Schulze has said she plans to introduce a law to ban the use of plastic bags.
"My ministry will get a plastic bag ban on its way," the Social Democrat said in Berlin on Sunday, without providing a timeline.
She said the goal was to "get out of the throwaway society and that overall, we use less plastic."
An agreement reached with businesses in 2016 has already been successful in reducing plastic bag consumption. At many stores, consumers must now pay for plastic bags.
According the Environment Ministry, there has been a 64 percent decline in plastic bag use since 2015.”
