“My love for baking was ignited in my 2nd year of university when my roommate started baking. As a foodie and someone with a 200% sweet tooth, it was magical to see simple ingredients turn into a tasty art piece.

To me, baking is an opportunity for me to explore, be experimental and be creative. Rather than the end product, the process itself is more important to me. I failed, troubleshot and learned from my mistakes. It’s all about getting to know your equipment and ingredients and making small tweaks for perfection.

Baking is also therapeutic; the joy from watching the batter rise in the oven; the emotional relief in kneading the dough; the comfort from the scents of butter and cinnamon filling the kitchen. It makes me feel content when I see my friends’ reactions as they take their first bite into my cake.
Baking became a way for me to build friendships--by sharing my baked goods and making them with my friends.” ---Yu YANG (Elly), PG rep, 2nd year PhD, Exco of SHC Cooking Club and member of Dragon Boat team.

We are pleased to launch “Foodies of Shun Hing” where we feature food and stories of our residents. Food is not only consumed but reflects our modes of being and existence. What we cook, bake, drink or eat becomes a part of who we are, and intertwine with our experiences in daily life. Whether your own creation, family recipe, or bought from the store, we welcome food and drink entries, recipes, and stories from our residents year-round. Photos are highly encouraged. Submit to mediateam.shc@gmail.com and get featured here!
