ENS Erin Snyder with the USNavy. I am an HPSP medical student at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine. Navy is in my blood. My grandfather served as an HM2 during WWII so I’ve always wanted to join the military and when I could do it while pursing a career in medicine I jumped at the opportunity. ESP Day!

Today was my first day back after taking an extra (unplanned) rest day. I got pretty sick over the weekend and was insanely congested. I’m a lot better now but the congestion is still there just not as bad. Anyway, today was pretty great! I’m honestly enjoying starting on the rower. I don’t know what I was so worried about! Actually I do. I was worried that my running ability would take a toll but it hasn’t! If anything I have even more energy to perform at every station! Not much really to say about today other than I’m glad to have done it while still being sorta sick!

✨Rest and Recovery is so important ✨

When I first started my journey I would never allow my body to rest. In my mind, if I took time to rest I wouldn’t receive the results I wanted. I would workout every single day whether it was in the weight room or doing long amounts of cardio. After some time my body hit a plateau and I was putting too much stress and pain on my body. Thankfully I was never injured because putting so much stress on your body puts you in a higher risk of injury. .
.
Today, I am in such a better place with listening to what my body needs. I allow my body to rest 1-2 days and train 4-5 days per week. This is what works for me and I encourage you to find what works for you. Not one body is the same. Listen to your body and allow it to rest and recover when it needs it. .

Today I took a rest day and I’m so happy I did. I got a lot of things done and now I’m ready to crush my workout tomorow AM. 👏🏽

Going to the gym often remains on the “to-do list” for some of us. Workout motivation seem out of reach.
Of course everyone wants to have a healthy lifestyle and be in shape, but how can we keep up in this fast-paced world? A full time job, a family that needs our attention, other duties that we can’t say “no” to, and so on.

It was a humid summer day in Ancient Greece and Persephone, goddess of flowers was in a field when a dark figure appeared before her. It was Hades, brother of Zeus and god of the underworld. He had been observing the beautiful goddess Persephone and invited her to accompany him to the underworld. At first, it seems a dreary and scary place but soon, Hades encourages the Goddess to take her true place - as Queen of the Underworld.
Although Persephone loves her mother, her flowers, and the life she had always known, she also felt love for Hades and allowed for a different path for her future. Living between two worlds taking her place alongside Hades while returning with the seasons to the world of the living.

Omg it’s been so long but I’m back and I’m stronger than ever both mentally and physically! .
Update: On week 3 of working with @templebuilderfitness and we are having a blast... well at least I am. It took me awhile but my resting heart rate is back to normal, my blood pressure is normal, sleep schedule is being tracked again and health is coming first. .
As of now we don’t have a date for the stage because we are building something fun. Putting my health first is most important and keeping me mentally tough is key. It all starts with a choice to have the chance to make a change. No one can make you choose to change, you have to want it. Here are some of my best tips for change👇🏼 1. Expect more from life and from yourself. If it was easy everyone would do it.

2. Find solutions to your problems. Everyone has problems, how you chose to deal with them is up to you.

3. Chose courage and not fear. Don’t enable fear to stop you from living your best life.

Super annoyed that I’m up and I know it’s just timing. I came home today and weighed the same as I did this morning, which I know is it not possible. To be fair, I did not workout this week and ate out everyday because I was travelling. So I am excited to control my intake again for the next 10 days and get back to the gym!

Priorities, values and balance. 3 things that are always good to be aware of when it comes to fitness. My values shape my priorities and I use the concept of balance to make sure I can implement them into my life effectively. This is especially important when it comes to values that are in conflict with each other. For example, I very much value my health and fitness level, BUT I also value the joy that comes with eating good food and indulging with friends (i.e. partying all weekend in NOLA 😆🥳👯‍♀️). Now, sometimes we choose one value over the other, or we can learn to find balance between these two conflicting values so that they will suit our priorities/goals that we have in our life.
For me, that balance looks like this: I still train 5-6 days a week with @comptrain , and do my best to stay on track with @rpstrength when my life allows. Additionally, I honor my values of friendship, and joy by making sure to attend social gatherings and turning my macro counter off once a week (even if I don’t overindulge it’s good to stop thinking about food all the time). Thankfully the @rpstrength app is always there to keep me on track 😏❤️, just one less thing in my life to think about. .

We all live very busy lives and play many roles: wife, husband, coworker, friend, mom, dad ext. Sometimes life will get in the way or you will feel unmotivated. You have to make sacrifices and prioritize time to fit your schedule, even if that is just an hour you have to go to the gym, that is still a win 🙌🏼.
