Pounded the legs today, great workout! Continues with high reps lower weight but knocked out 3 reps of 225lb at the end of 5 sets of about 100 reps. Last week almost lost it on first try.

@nattyknowledge What if I told you the reason your calves are small is not your parents’ fault?

Like all muscles, calves can grow (they are more stubborn than others I'll admit). This is why the form and technique for training calves is so crucial. In my opinion, calves are trained incorrectly the most.

The achilles tendon is located right behind your ankle, and it is an extremely powerful tendon who's job is to absorb as much force as possible. This is what people are actually working when they are exercising their "calves" because they perform the exercise too fast and heavy, causing the achilles tendon reflex to kick in.

To actually work the calf muscle, I recommend the 2-2-2-2 tempo to prevent any momentum, which will bypass the achilles tendon reflex, allowing you to actually target your calves. It also goes without saying that you should lower the weight drastically when exercising calves to control the movement and perform quality reps to grow your calves.

When one starts loosing mobility around a joint it’s important to understand the root cause. It is not that you are not doing enough mobility work.... in fact recent studies show strength training can be more effective at improving mobility than stretching. The loss of mobility is often a neurological process and protective mechanism. Reducing range of motion and power output is a great protective mechanism. We engineer these systems into such things as automobiles that sense lack of traction/stability through sensors and diagnostic tools (just like the body’s nervous system) and reduce engine and transmission output (just like our body does) to reduce risk of crashing and injuring the car and occupants. It’s an efficient system. If loosing mobility, look at the quality of movement and if your frequency and intensity of training are not allowing for adequate tissue recovery. The more efficient you are with movement the more you can tolerate higher frequency and volume = MORE GAINS

I had a patient say to me “you have no idea how hard it is to lose weight. Not all of us have it easy like you do.”
You’re kinda right - not everyone has determination I do. Not everyone is willing to commit to their health like I do. Not everyone is willing to say no to the pizzas, the pastas, the rice, the bread like I do. Not everyone is willing to choose vegetables over chips like I do. Not everyone is willing to bake their chicken without breading like I do. Not everyone is willing to push their bodies beyond the point of exhaustion like I do. Not everyone is willing to measure ounces of meat or grams of peanut butter like I do. Not everyone is willing to limit their vices like I do. Not everyone is willing to prioritize sleep like I do. Not everyone is willing to overcome high and low blood sugars like I do. Not everyone is willing to find a way rather than an excuse like I do. It’s definitely hard to lose weight, sis. But you, too, can overcome that shit and put in the work if you stop letting your excuses call the shots. .

Fitness with type 1 isn’t a walk in the park but fortunately, I’m tougher than that anyways. .

Not really a fitness related post... but the reason I’m in California, is because my first sweet girl, Bagheera, has cancer.
Her mass in her jaw has grown rapidly... and I’m here to spend as much time as I can with her 🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤
My animals are my babies. Some may think flying to see your animals for the last time is ridiculous... those people don’t know me very well.
