    In February when I noticed for the first time I had been losing weight, I took the photo on the left. I remember I looked in the mirror and was pretty okay with what I saw for the first time in longer than I’d like to admit. I decided to take a photo because I realized I had no photos from when I was at my heaviest and I wanted to be able to make a before and after post at some point. The photo on the left was already after I had lost 50 pounds. The photo on the right is today, since the photo on the left I have lost another 40 pounds. Making 90 pounds in total over the last 2 years. •

Being a nutritional therapist people often label me as "healthy", but with this label comes lots of expectations of rules I must follow, foods I must cut out and the amount of exercise and meditation I must be doing, and even the size clothes I wear...

Having battled with an eating disorder and body dysmorphia for many years - I find the label of being "healthy" actually comes with quite a few rules and pressures that are actually UNhealthy!

Health is SO much more then what is simply on your plate, it encompasses your mind, your environment, your body, and even the products you use.
...
I know I don't want to be on a healthy "diet", I want to have a healthy LIFESTYLE and this is what I want for my clients too.

This is why I strip back the labels, rules, and pressures of any particular diet and use the term "flexitarian" instead. When I use this term it empowers me to make decisions based on what feels good FOR ME, it allows me to have an element of balance and flexibility with myself and gives me the power of choice, so things are NOT good or bad, they are simply options.

People might fear that with this freedom to choose you will be out of control, however, you have to establish your narrow upper and lower limits and work towards keeping a balance and adapting to the circumstances of your situation. This gives you the freedom and flexibility to be happy and healthy. This is a LIFESTYLE and not another diet plan!

    The best bowl!!! Greens + sweet potato wedges + tomatoes + a fried egg + lime!! 🤗😋Timothy and I are about to take kaiyah to a state park for the day - we always try to take her to do stuff like that so that she comes home exhausted and just passes out 😂 she loves it though!! ☺️ hope y’all are doing something fun this Sunday!!

    The importance of iron is becoming increasingly clear. A well-balanced diet should provide enough iron, but iron deficiencies are still pretty common [1]. Next to overall well-being, iron deficiencies may also harm training performance since it decreases oxygen delivery to muscle [2]. (Impaired oxygen delivery to muscle = fatigue more quickly)

When you're not getting ample amounts of a certain vitamin or mineral, supplementation is an option. But as the first step, I prefer looking into ways you can alter your existing diet to get more iron.

Meats are well-known sources of iron. There are also plenty of plant-based sources of iron. It's worth mentioning here though that plant-based iron sources contain non-heme iron, which has a lower absorption rate [3]. Luckily, there's a simple way to improve the absorption rate of non-heme iron.

Vitamin C increases the absorption of iron [4], so you can improve the nutritional quality of your daily "veggie snack" by combining foods like lentil soup (iron source) with a kiwi (vitamin C source) or as showcased in the first picture, a kale salad with some orange slices [5].

    Happy Saturday! Final meal before leaving for the airport - the best banana pancakes I’ve ever had!

We had the best trip here in Maui and can not wait to come back, might just have to make it a family tradition! Hope you have the best start to your weekend!
