Over the past few decades, mindfulness meditation has become increasingly popular, particularly as a tool to reduce stress or anxiety and gain a greater sense of wellbeing. While many empirical studies have confirmed that regular meditation, especially mindfulness meditation, can have beneficial effects on people's mental health, so far very little is known about the mechanisms underpinning these effects. The dialogue surrounding mental health resolving the stigma of sharing ideas is a key component to keeping us all healthy. #mindfulness #selfcare #wellness #anxiety #depression #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealthmatters #psychology #selfhelp #support #mentalillness #drjeph

"Bad? No, I'm not getting bad "again". This isn't something "temporary". This is the state i've been for a long time. But when i become mentally exhausted from all the pretending, that's when you see it too. It's getting bad "again" for YOU. Because for me, this is something I have to deal with every day. Every hour. Every moment. I am only showing you the tip of my emotions, because if I let you see it all, you won't be able to comprehend how I am even still alive. You've seen nothing." - S.S.W

Our walk today was Amazing!!!! I'm so so proud, he was really rusty and I almost gave up, but we kept working and I was blown away
The video is 100% loose leash, like 3ft of hanging leash and all the corrections are ecollar
.
I am barely using his prong anymore, and I was thinking about switching to ecollar/slip instead of ecollar/prong
But he responds a lot more to the prong and I need less pressure with that to get the same reaction, so I'm going to keep it for emergencies
I really really love prong collars as a tool, but hes working a lot on loose leash and you cant really have both
.
Anyway, if you read this long you were probably disappointed with my lack of content, but I really like venting here, so yeah
.
Also hopefully I'll be getting a flirt pole soon to help concentrate and direct his prey drive
Also also I'm thinking/trying to look into Bite Sport for him, I really think he would have a Ton of fun, and I would love to watch him do what hes made for
.

I think I’m finally ready to post about this. Obvious trigger warning for suicide throughout. This is suuuuper long so I have to continue in the comments lol. I’m rambling my thoughts really.
I hadn’t been able to work out why Caroline’s suicide was so prevalent in my mind. So many celebrity’s have died, so many have died by suicide, but Caroline’s has stuck with me and I’ve felt a lot of the same feelings that I felt when I lost other people to suicide. I realised that because her death wasn’t just due to mental illnesses and depression but because it was caused by bullying. She was bullied to death by a nation and that’s why it’s breaking my heart so much. She posted about her struggles, she told people she needed help but that help wasn’t offered to her just like it hasn’t been offered to so many people not just in the Uk but in the whole world. Instead of being helped and being lifted up she was constantly being put down. She was bullied so badly that she felt like taking her own life was the only way out of it, the only way to get it to stop. I was so shocked when I got a notification from BBC news saying ‘Caroline Flack has died.’ I literally didn’t believe it, I didn’t believe it as I was reading tweets about it. It just didn’t seem real, I never thought I would read those words. It took a long time for me to even register that she has taken her own life.
One thing I’ve been working on this year is being kinder. I am a judgemental person and I admit that I often bitch about people behind their backs, and I message my friends talking shit about things but this year I’ve tried really hard to be less negative and less judgemental and to stop when I find myself going to bitch about something. The past few days I’ve tried even harder. I was about to RT jake Paul’s recent tweet with something sarcastic and bitchy and then I thought...no. Don’t say it, why say it? I felt like I could say it and I had free speech purely because I’m behind a screen and we don’t know each other but that doesn’t make it right. I wouldn’t say it to his face so what makes it right to say it anonymously online? Nothing makes it right.

Narcissists NEVER tell the truth or a full story .
Narcissists twist and leave out details, to make THEM look like the victim .
When a narcissist is caught being abusive, they immediately flip the details to make themselves look like the victim. Narcissists do this to escape their BIGGEST fear: accountability!
.
The narcissist fakes being “hurt” to get you to stop speaking the truth. Narcissists also fake being hurt because gaining pity pressures flying monkeys to feel sorry for them and believe them because their truth is exposed and gaining pity is the last hope to saving their image
.
NEVER fall for the tactics of the narcissist. The narcissist will go extreme measures to escape accountability. This does not exclude gaining sympathy through pity. .
Also remember- NOTHING from the narcissist is genuine. Never feel threatened by the narcissist’s weak retaliation threats , “plans”, or attempts to provoke . Never feel afraid to tell the REAL truth

Self-care is very important, especially when you're struggling with mental health. Knowing how to support yourself can help you make positive changes in your life. Here are some ideas to help you get started. 🗣Talk to someone you trust.
🤸🏽‍♀️Keep Active.
👩🏽‍🤝‍👨🏼Make social connection a priority—especially face-to-face.
🥦 Eat well.
😴 Don’t skimp on sleep—it matters more than you think.
🙆🏻‍♀️ Find purpose and meaning in life.

When you’re hurt, depressed, upset or anxious it is very easy for our emotions to be turned into anger. For me it happens too much and I can’t stop it, but I control what I do with it and how I let it go. I try not to be angry with people but sometimes that fails because I’m human, (mentally unstable one at that hahaha - sorry lmao) but for real, watch how you take your anger out because you can hurt a lot of people, damage a lot of friendships all because of your temper. I know its very hard especially as it’s based off your actual emotions, and people just think you’re a bitch rather then understanding that you’re depressed, but learn to let your anger go<3

You are not defined by your mental illness! One thing I learned while on my consult/liaison psychiatry clerkship is that medical professions need to be conscious of how the refer to patients with mental illnesses. It is not, “the schizophrenic patient”. Rather, it should be, “the patient with a medical history of schizophrenia”. Using the right language can make all the difference in our subconscious bias against mental illness and combating this hurtful labeling.

~ journal entry from eating disorder treatment:
“I don’t feel like I deserve to be in treatment right now. I’ve been far worse before. I don’t feel sick enough to be here.” Anorexia. An illness that makes you believe that you are never sick enough..
The number on the scale was never low enough. The bones were never visible enough. No matter what, it was never enough. Even when I was near death I didn’t believe I was ill.
Your eating disorder will always tell you aren’t “sick enough.” That’s why anorexia is so deadly, dangerous, and difficult to beat because it literally re-wires our brains to believe there's some unattainable "enough" we need to reach before we can live our lives or before we can be happy or before we deserve help.
It doesn’t matter what you look like. Eating disorders don’t have “a look.” You’re “sick enough” even if you’ve never had a feeding tube, even if you’ve never been hospitalized, even if your labs appear “normal,” or even if your not underweight. If you are struggling with a preoccupation with food and weight - you are “sick enough” and you absolutely deserve to seek treatment and help.

PART 1:
The first time I discovered the idea of being the “witness” to my own thoughts and experiences was roughly a year ago, listening to, now my favourite author and speaker, Michael A Singer. I remember feeling extremely confronted with the idea that my thoughts were not apart of me and that they were subjective matter, developed over time through experiencing life. I mean, my thoughts were me, right? I hear them everyday, we make decisions, establish rules and talk things out together, and this guy was telling me, “yo, you know that voice in your head that’s constantly chattering away, it’s not actually got anything to do with you”. Well ok Michael, I’ve pretty much lived my entire life listening to this voice in my head so like, what do you expect me to do about?🤷🏻‍♀️
BE THE W I T N E S S
.
I’ve spoken about being the witness to our thoughts before, but I think it’s important for people to understand the concept. We’re born, with no thoughts, you can pretty much call yourself a blob with physicals. Anyway. Through experiences such as, a significant event with your parents, that time your sister yelled at you for taking her toy, having a deep and meaningful conversation with your best friend, getting your heart broken for the first time, so on and so forth.. we experience life. We hold on to specific pieces of information during these moments and store them over in our subconscious, which is like a gate keeper for everything that’s ever occurred in our life. Through this information stored, a sort of “dialogue” begins to play out, such as “why did my sister just yell at me for taking her toy? I thought we were family, why does she hate me so much?” Or “I really loved him I can’t believe he hurt me the way he did”. Over time, these thoughts develop, multiply and BOOM we got this side kick living it up in our minds trying to narrate our every waking move. When something comes up in our daily life that even remotely resembles a time we previously experienced, that little buddy up in our head will feed us some words they picked up from the subconcious, to which we will sit and ruminate over for the next half hour.

On Saturday morning, February 15, 2020, on Miles Hall's birthday, NAMI CC Executive Director Gigi Crowder, L.E. and Outreach Coordinator, Ashley Ciullo met with Showing Up for Racial Justice (SURJ), a national network of groups and individuals working to undermine white supremacy and to work toward racial justice, and other advocates including Racial Justice Working Group at Mt. Diablo Unitarian Universalist Church in Walnut Creek to talk about “Racial Disparities in Mental Health Services.” Gigi Crowder, L.E. shared her previous work as the BHCS Cultural Competency Coordinator and Ethnic Services Manager in Alameda County Behavioral Health Care Services in a published study called “African American Utilization Report, Goals and Recommendations,” her leadership in NAMI CC FaithNet building mental friendly communities and her role in facilitating an ongoing African American Family Support Group. Allies discussed the work they are doing in the community to bring awareness, change and justice to disparities and called to action what they can personally do to support individuals from the African American Community to exist in a mental health friendly community, including their role and involvement in the Justice for FOSATH and the Justice for Miles Hall Foundation. Racial/ethnic minorities often suffer from poor mental health outcomes due to multiple factors including inaccessibility of high-quality mental health care services, cultural stigma surrounding mental health care, discrimination, and overall lack of awareness about mental health.

And they also expect you not to talk about it. I don't know who needs to read this but I sure do. The stigma around mental illness is bull shit.
..
..
As if we should be ashamed or internalize it all. Because apparently it's already not hard enough to be constantly fighting with your own mind. ..
..
Mental illness is a MF. I know because I have anxiety and depression. I have the highest of highs and lowest of lows. ..
..
And those of you battling it - I see you. I hear you. You're not alone. It's ok to say it outloud. To talk about it. To feel what you feel. And to be supported, heard, and loved. ..
..
Keep fighting. You're incredible. And anyone who questions you, doesn't believe you, or diminishes you is not worth your beautiful energy. 💫🖤💫

Post # 5 - By now, we probably have all heard of the trending app called TikTok, it is a platform for users to share their creative videos. You might be wondering what does this have to do with mental illness? Just a suggestion, campaigns can use TikTok as a marketing platform to educate more people in a completely different demographic group, where they can partner with influencers that has large amount of followers to further spread the awareness. #mentalillness #tiktok #topeducator

We see so much through someone’s eyes. We see their pain. We see their happiness. We see their sadness. Our eyes speak, when we can’t. Leave a “♥️” for someone who’s struggling right now.

There is something about healing that makes you hold your head a little higher.
.
.
Days, weeks, months, hours, minutes and seconds have gone by since I started my healing journey. When you’re “in it” like REALLY in it, it’s difficult to see any progress. It’s almost like emerging from muddy waters and slowly wiping off the mud as you rise.
.
.
Days went by and I began healing whether I knew it or not. I have spent HOURS meditating over the past 11 months. I have had well over 60 therapy sessions. I have let go of relationships that no longer serve me despite the people pleaser inside of me begging to let them stay. I have replaced habits created out of shame, pain and trauma with healthier habits that make my soul feel good, feel alive.
.
.
I have faced many unhealed parts of my being. Some that were beyond painful to visit. I have cried, a lot. I have felt all emotions especially anger...an emotion that I suppressed. I have learned to love who I am for the first time ever. And not just love my body but my heart too.
.
.
I live in a place that doesn’t feel like a constant war zone anymore. I live in a mind that is at peace more times than not. I am beyond grateful for the opportunity to change my life and become the person that was hiding behind a wall of shame.
.
.
When you start to heal, you just glow differently ✨🤍

I found an apartment! I’m moving in less than two weeks. I’m excited and terrified about this next chapter. Mostly excited. .
.
I’ve lived with family for close to a decade. It was supposed to be long enough to finish college, get a job, and save some money. I figured 1–1.5 years. Well, life happened and my mental health took a turn for the worse and here I am, 7.5 years later. But I’m finally in a position where I can move forward.
.
.
I have a lot of fears, but mostly it will be a good part of my healing to have my own space again.

With this anecdote, we can clearly see the discrepancy between how we respond to those who struggle with physical versus mental health challenges.

On this #mentalhealthmonday, I encourage you to let this resonate because the truth of the matter is, there is no casserole, fruit basket or flowers when it comes to mental health.

If mental illness were a choice, nobody would have one!

No one chooses to suffer from OCD, anxiety, depression, etc. as much as no one chooses to suffer from any physical illness. Having a mental illness is not your fault!•
No one would choose severe anxiety that makes it painful to wake up every day. No one would choose to have their worst fears intrude into their minds at random moments. No one would decide to have no energy or motivation to do simple tasks like getting dressed or getting groceries. •
Please, instead of telling people to "just be positive," "snap out of it," or "talk yourself out of it," listen to them and validate their concerns. Tell them you're sorry they're suffering and that you care about them. You don't have to fix the problem; letting someone know you care about them can be huge.

”In world where you can be anything, be kind.” Today is National Random Acts of Kindness Day, so we thought it would be fitting to have our motivational Monday quote be related to kindness. But how true is the photo? Everyone is going through their own thing, don’t make things harder. Be kind. It's that simple #RandomActsOfKindnessDay #MotivationalMonday #BeKind #YouMatter #MentalHealthAlwaysMatters #AlwaysBeKind #MentalHealth #MentalIllness #SelfCareMatters

Loving Monday night dinners with @plantfully.maddie (ft last week’s dinner that was more photogenic than this week’s) 💕
-
Having a real life recovery buddy is invaluable. This journey can be so isolating and scary - hospital beds, infinite hours alone lost in behaviors, endless time in individual therapy, etc. So when you meet someone that truly gets it, it’s a gift 😌
-
Tonight I am grateful for our standing Monday night date that got me out of my head and into the present moment. That dragged me away from the relapsive thoughts and allowed me to nourish my body and soul. ❤️
-
Hope you’re all having a great Monday!

Start celebrating your achievements no matter how big or small you think they are. Because in the end all achievements are relative to your journey and they cannot or should not be compared to other people’s.

It is reported that over 40 people have died in suspected suicides linked to reality TV shows.

We live in a world now more than ever where people are chasing fame. People are using reality tv and social media as their path to fame, success and fortune. And, millions are tuning in ready to judge, provoke and attack.

Reality TV contestants may be particularly vulnerable to mental health issues because of the nature of their fame. The public doesn’t judge them on their talents such as their ability to act or sing, they judge them on their appearance and behaviour and this can have a major impact on their self-worth.

People who put themselves forward for a reality TV show might be seeking some sort of validation and approval therefore may be more naturally sensitive to any negative judgement. If they are relentlessly criticised they can feel immensely vulnerable because the rejection they experience can feel personal and like a total rejection of who they are.

The unfortunate truth is there is a lot of mentally ill, judgemental, hurt and angry people in the world who spit venom online and who aim to provoke and defame. These people are called trolls.

Attention is like food for trolls. Many experts suggest to starve them. Some also say to defeat the troll we must understand the troll.

This is complex as the reality is that trolls have been around since the birth of the internet and social media and now with reality tv they won’t be going anywhere anytime soon. Trolls are extreme and are often Narcissists, Psychopaths, and Sadists.

I’m not sure of the solution, but here are some that come to mind:

Reality TV shows owe a duty of care to contestants who have sudden fame thrust upon them. They need ongoing support and guidance and to be regularly checked in on by those who sincerely care.
People choosing this path need to carefully consider what they are signing up for.
And, the collective consciousness and humanity of good humans need to keep doing their work to spread more love in a world that needs it now more than ever....darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can do that.

NEW EPISODE!! The pre-check-in got Habit 4 of the New Series is up!!.
🙌🏽
The 4th habit I’m trying to cultivate is to avoid swearing. THIS IS GOING TO BE HARD. ♥️
In this series I will be cultivating 26 spiritual habits throughout the year, and will check in before starting the habit, and 2 weeks later when I have completed my attempt at cultivating it. 🙏🏽
In this first episode, I discuss what this new series is, and do a pre-check in for the first habit - being in a STATE of wudhu, and how I came to understand what this means. 🙏🏽
I hope you enjoy this series, and if you decide to follow along and try cultivating 26 spiritual habits, I’d love to hear about your journey and reflections! .

Please be kind to yourself. It's okay if you didn't get everything done on your list today. Sometimes it is more important to check in with where you are at and re-prioritise from that. Your health - all aspects - comes first!! Take care xx

Guilty as charged. Stop romanticizing people and start looking at how they treat you. I used to play the victim, thinking everyone was just ‘mean to me’ until I did the shadow work and realized I was attracting them. Not only was I attracting them but I was allowing them to mistreat me because I focused on the one good, golden nugget in their heart and ignored the 1,000 black holes. Only accept what you deserve. Worried about being lonely? You won’t. You’ll clear space for true ones to come in. You create your reality, friends 🌈 🖤

❥ Your words and thoughts are POWERFUL! Your internal and external dialogue literally shape the way you experience this life!
⠀⠀
The thoughts you think and the words you speak shape how you feel, how you feel defines your actions, and your actions have a direct effect on your reality. ⠀⠀
When I’m faced with a tough situation, these are some of my go-to phrases to tell myself. I often repeat them in my head when I’m challenged more than I think I can handle.
⠀⠀
I also keep this list saved on my phone to always have it on hand. ⠀⠀
Giving yourself a daily pep-talk can be incredibly empowering. Whether you need to push yourself through a tough moment or motivate yourself to make a change, I hope these mantras will help you feel powerful and capable. ⠀⠀
We all have bad days. Sometimes we have bad weeks or months. I know this can be tough and I won't admit it'll always be easy. But you know what? This will eventually end. Your current situation is not your final destination. You will get through what you’re facing. You will unlearn, to make space and relearn. Then you will repeat it all over again. That's the game of life. This is living, my dear!
⠀⠀
Every tough thing you go through is making you stronger. Grow through what you go through and you’ll be better off for it. Growth is what happens when you push those limits. When I’ve gone as far as I think I can go, I remind myself that there is nothing I can’t do. I am powerful — but it’s up to me to tap into that power.
⠀⠀
Please know that you have an innate power within you to achieve greatness. And you were born with unique talents & skills and have life experience that no one else has. You are powerful, and that power is already within you.
⠀⠀
Repeat these Mantras regularly and trust that results will slowly start to show!
⠀⠀
Trust & repeat!
Trust & repeat! ⠀⠀
..
⠀⠀
This is the work. 🧡
⠀⠀
Sending love to all of you.
As always,
Nila ⠀⠀
