You might ask, “Why India?”—and then, why such a particularly horrific part of India?
All for the story, my dear!
—
When researching the final section of The Creative Art of Wishfulness I knew I needed somewhere ancient, somewhere holy, somewhere artistic, and somewhere very very divisive—and somewhere for Godfrey to paint his magnum opus.
—
India is its own character in the book, doing its best to break Godfrey and Or apart while at the same time conspiring to bring together he and—
Wait, that’d be a spoiler.
—
So Godfrey goes to India to paint his magnum opus.
“Accumulating since first he had thumbed through the Nuremberg Chronicle, his notes attempted to combine that medieval history of the world with the forms and styles of its oldest religion, a kind of Hindu biblical paraphrase…”
—
For his first 2 weeks his open-air office is the colonnade around the temple tank at Madurai’s great Meenakshi temple, where he sketches and paints, turning the statues on its main tower (pictured) into 21st-century prophecies, jokes, & denunciations.
—
“Of infinite variety—the labour surely of a thousand men over a dozen centuries—he had been so fixated by this southern great gopuram that he had made its aspect his first open-air Indian studio.”
—
When he arrives, he loves it. When Or arrives, she hates it. But gradually they begin to switch perspectives—Godfrey being unable to get any work done because of the heat, the crowds, the noise—Or witnessing a series of spectacles that convert her to India.
And at the exact moment when he quotes her on how horrible the place is and she quotes him on how magical, there arrives in India—
Wait, that’d be a spoiler.
—
But THAT, is why India.
—
“Godfrey Lackland simply wants to do his work as an artist.
All that stands in his way is a wellness retreat, India, and the love of two women.”

Thanks to our friends at @CBS & @MattressFirm, we were able to spread the reading love to children in foster care in July. We held two book drives in Austin & Atlanta, complete with school supplies, sweet treats, and book swag (you remember getting the pencils & posters at your book fairs, right?!). Additionally, we were able to provide new books for foster youth throughout the country for children to have their own adventure to escape into. 💙 📚 ⠀

"The Story of the Jodhpur Lancers" by Brigadier Mahendra Singh Jodha, is simply a collector's edition. Every Indian, and others who wish to know the contribution of this valiant battalion in both the great wars, need to pick up a copy of this from @bahrisons_booksellers . Published by @niyogi_books .
.
.
This was on my shelf for quite sometime, as I needed a good amount of free time to delve into this epic account of the history and glory of our men in uniform. .
.
The simple narration keeps you engaged in the sheer bravery with which they fought in the battle of Haifa, and other frontiers where these incredible soldiers were deployed. One cannot help but feel the goosebumps, from the sense of pride and gratitude towards our armed forces.

How do you decide which book to get rid of? I have been unhauling a few of my books and I'm having a hard time which ones to let go of. There are a few I know i won't be reading anymore but a part of me doesnt want to let them go as I know I liked them a few years ago somehow. I am just conflicted. 💔 .
.
Or maybe i'll just get a new shelf. Problem solved? 🤔

This book hit the JACKPOT...no pun intended!😂❤️🙌🏾 But SERIOUSLY, what an incredible book! I finished this bad boy in a day and a half! We follow Rico Danger (the best name ever) who is doing everything she can to support her family while in high school. But after finding out one of the lottery tickets she sold at work is a winning ticket, she makes it her mission to find the person who has yet to claim the money!! This novel was (spit your coffee) funny, heartwarming, with just the right amount of potential romance to keep you smiling like a fool...but also deep and painfully relatable at times...yes...it hit the jackpot, big time.❤️

⠀
⠀
