Happy birthday today to Chiropractic!!! You may have noticed the office decorated this week to celebrate 124 years of this week wonderful profession helping the world.

This D.D Palmer, he delivered the very first chiropractic adjustment to Harvey Lillard who had lost his hearing in his left ear 17 years previously after working in a “cramped stooped position” and felt something give way in his back. DD checked his spine, found and adjusted the misaligned vertebrae and his hearing returned!! How nuts!! Birthdays are a great reminder to celebrate, reflect and show gratitude to all the blessings in our lives. One of the things we’re so grateful for is our privilege to work with you, the Port Melb community.

In february @counterfeit_creg came to me with the aim to hit a 140kg deadlift and by the end of may we finally hit that goal! Continuing our strength programme covering bench, squats and press we have built is overall perfomance, all fueled by the carnivore diet!
Yesterday we decided to go back to test out his 1 rep max and we only ent and hit 200kg (this wasnt even a thought 3 months ago) 💪

Its not been an easy road! We need to cut out that initial jerk and with a 1 rep max we sometimes sacrifice a little form to hit those goals! Instagram usually just shows the highlight reel but a lot of hard work, determination and a lot of failed reps went into reaching this goal 💪

Early Learning Resource Unit (ELRU)

Our Family and Community Motivators (FCMs) and Playgroup Facilitators are all in the process of receiving training from the Western Cape Department of Health on the ‘Road to Health’ booklet and also, how to take and record accurate MUAC measurements. Today is Langa, Nyanga and Gugulethu's turn.

MUAC stands for Mid-Upper Arm Circumference. This area of a child's arm is measured regularly, from 6 months until 5 years old and is usually taken during clinic visits to assess nutritional status. Malnutrition and stunted growth are often seen in vulnerable communities and through early intervention, can be curbed.
This training will be done with all FCM fieldworkers and Playgroup facilitators so they can track the growth – or lack thereof – of all children in these programmes.

The tracking of arm measurements has been orchestrated to run hand-in-hand with the distribution of 500 000 nutrient-enriched meals we received from Rise Against Hunger Africa (RAH) in July.

But before consuming the RAH meals, all children in the programmes will be measured so we can establish a baseline. An end-line will be scheduled in six months to determine the impact the food has on children over time. Findings will be sent to USA, to our RAH supplier.

🔥 🥜 Tikka Spiced Roasted Cauliflower with Protein Nut Butter
Ingredients:
1 head cauliflower – cut into florets
1/2 cup Barbara’s homemade nut butter
2 tbsp olive oil or sunflower oil
4 tsp of Tikka Paste
1 inch grated fresh turmeric
Season with Himalayan crystal Salt
Squeeze of fresh lemon juice or lime juice
Method:
1. In a large bowl, whisk together nut butter and tikka paste. Depending on the
texture of your homemade nut butter, squeeze in some lemon juice or a tablespoon of water if you find the mixture a little dry. Toss the florets into the mixture and coat well.
2. Adjust the top oven rack, so the cauliflower will be about 4-5 inches away from the heat. Preheat the oven for a few minutes on the low broil setting.
3. While oven is preheating, spread out the cauliflower in a single layer on a lined baking pan.
4. Roast under the broiler for 10-12 minutes, until just tender and golden brown (remove from oven
halfway to flip florets over). 5.When cooked, sprinkle with Himalayan crystal Salt, squeeze lemon or lime juice over, and garnish with fresh cilantro leaves or parsley.
6.For extra crunch,
and to add texture for presentation, top with crushed toasted almonds.
7.Serve hot but they are yummy cold for a picnic too.

Do you love carrots?

I love them raw but I love them even more roasted!
Do yourself a favor and pick up a bag of tri-colored carrots for this recipe!
Ingredients:
12 carrots
3 tablespoons good olive oil
1 1/4 teaspoons kosher salt
1/2 teaspoons freshly ground black pepper
2 tablespoons minced fresh dill or parsley

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F

Slice the carrots diagonally in 1 1/2-inch-thick slices. (The carrots will shrink while cooking so make the slices big.) Toss them in a bowl or plastic bag with the olive oil, salt, and pepper.
Spread on sheet pan in 1 layer and roast in the oven for 20 minutes, until browned and tender.

Toss the carrots with minced dill or parsley and serve.

Sometimes we get so distracted in our every day lives that we miss the little things that matter the most❤️

I spent so much of my life full of anxiety and distracted from a lot of joy in the universe✨
.
These adorable space buns which I finally successfully were able to accomplish on top of my head make me happy
.
Something as little as accomplishing and rocking a new hairstyle can mean so much. In the past I would never have had the confidence to wear my hair like this. I always avoided having my hair up, because I felt it made my face look fatter than it already was
.
So I smile because I know how far I have come, I am happy in the present and excited for the future💛

Ingredients:
2 cups rolled oats
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
3 ripe bananas
1/4 cup raw honey or maple syrup
2 large #eggs
cinnamon, vanilla, nuts, optional
2 Tbsps melted ghee, butter, or oil
1/4 cup #chocolate chips

Instructions:
Preheat oven 350 degrees and line an 8x4 inch loaf pan.
⁣⠀
Place the oats and baking soda in a blender, and add in the remaining ingredients, except for the chocolate chips, and pulse. Stir in the chocolate chips, then pour the mixture into your loaf pan.

If you want to, sprinkle chocolate chips and set 1/2 of a sliced #banana on top of the #bread as shown to make it look pretty.

I love plantains so much. It took me awhile to use them but I like that they’re a little heartier than a regular banana 👌🏻 But you could use a banana here too. Made a little almond milk yogurt + maple syrup mixture to go on top 😍 But a little ice cream would be so tasty too 🍦 Taking a break from the pumpkin desserts for a day because it’s 90F here still 😂 Hope you guys had a good one! -

How did you find the motivation?
What's the key to lose weight?

Here's a secret... Who doesn't want to stay fit and look good??? Everyone. We all have that desire. Then where we going wrong??? "I'l start eating healthy tomorrow"
"I wont eat rice for a week"
"Il be regular at gym from tomorrow"
"Il avoid all the outside food"
"Il start having fruits"
"Il get up early for walk" etc etc

SOUNDS SIMILAR??? This is the problem. How can you expect to change everything overnight? Change takes time. Habit takes time.

I understand hard work is required in everything you do no matter what is it, but I feel the first and foremost thing which is required is CONSISTENCY... If you're not consistent you can't even stay motivated. It's fine if you are taking single step everyday. Just keep going. EVERYDAY. One change at a time.

You can start with the easy things-
- Drink 1 glass of water everyday before meals
- Chew your food slowly
- Avoid fried things
- Start walking (start with 15min)
- Include 1 fruit in your day preferably banana (easy to carry, tasty & my favourite 😉)
- Be grateful for at least one good thing happened in your day

Again...ONE AT A TIME.

If you start with at least one little step you will feel motivated to do more. But for that also you need to START. Wishing you all the best for this journey. Know Im always with you❤️

This Cheesy Chicken Broccoli Pasta is a dish that is packed with cheesy, rich flavor, loaded with chicken and broccoli. 1 tbsp olive oil
1 lb chicken breasts in small pieces
1/2 tsp salt and pepper
1 onion chopped
4 cloves garlic minced
8 oz pasta uncooked, such as penne, shells, rigatoni, etc.
1 cup chicken broth
2 cups milk
2 cup broccoli cut into small florets
1/4 tsp nutmeg
2 cups cheddar cheese shredded


Instructions
Heat the olive oil in a large skillet. Add the chicken breasts to the skillet and season them with salt and pepper. Cook for about 5 minutes until the chicken is cooked through and starts to lightly brown.
Add the onions, garlic and cook for another 2 minutes until the onions softens.
Add the pasta, chicken broth, milk and bring to a boil. Turn the heat down to low, stir, cover the pot/skillet and simmer for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the pasta cooks through.
Uncover the pot and stir in the broccoli. Continue cooking until all the liquid evaporates. Stir in cheese. Taste for seasoning and adjust with salt and pepper if needed. Serve while warm.

i’ve gotten a lot of requests for these kinds of posts but i’ve been sort of hesitant to post them because i don’t necessarily eat the same things all the time. well, the main meals i have are pretty repetitive😆 but my snacks vary because i like to indulge here and there. i included a couple little treats i had today☝🏼

breakfast was overnight proats: 1/3 buckwheat flakes, mixed with boiled water, 1 tbsp chia seeds, 2 scoops @nuzest_usa coffee flavoured protein (rosay15 for 15% off), and almond milk, which i mixed and left overnight in the fridge. topped with cacao nibs, granola, strawberries, banana, nut and seed butter, and cinnamon✨

lunch: 3 eggs, toasted gluten-free bagel thin, with dairy free cream cheese on one half and dairy free butter on the other. with a slice of watermelon🍉 .
dinner: baked salmon (i just sprinkle some himalayan salt on it and bake for 20 min on 400F), with kale mix and balsamic, and my greek quinoa salad (recipe saved in story highlight: recipes)

snack: a pumpkin protein muffin i made the other day (not the greatest tasting so i never posted the recipe lol, but i still like ‘em😉)

DESSERT: @sodelicious_ca coconut milk almond bars 😋 after i spent the whole morning talking about binge eating (see stories), i ended up eating 3 of these😆 kidding, i wouldn’t consider eating 3 of these little ice cream bars a binge, but i just couldn’t have one, they were so good! of course i bought them as a treat for bae but ended up eating them all myself🤣i’m pretty impressed with the ingredients, which are minimal and far less processed than other ice cream bars. they also use organic coconut milk and cane sugars opposed to dairy and refined sugars. if i’m going to eat dessert, i’ll take one with healthier ingredients over the fake stuff!♥️ i took the day off from the gym today, but i’ll be back to my routine tomorrow😊

DESSERT: @sodelicious_ca coconut milk almond bars 😋 after i spent the whole morning talking about binge eating (see stories), i ended up eating 3 of these😆 kidding, i wouldn’t consider eating 3 of these little ice cream bars a binge, but i just couldn’t have one, they were so good! of course i bought them as a treat for bae but ended up eating them all myself🤣i’m pretty impressed with the ingredients, which are minimal and far less processed than other ice cream bars. they also use organic coconut milk and cane sugars opposed to dairy and refined sugars. if i’m going to eat dessert, i’ll take one with healthier ingredients over the fake stuff!♥️ i took the day off from the gym today, but i’ll be back to my routine tomorrow😊
