    It’s 5:49 am; today is my official weigh in day and I’ve already plateaued. How can you do that 2 wks into a “life style” change? I’m so fucking disappointed. Lbs lost: 10 should I exercise? I’ve read while on metformin cardio exercises could be counteracting. So HIIT? But that is a high intensity cardio.... lift a 5 lb weight in my garage? I’d be there for 20 yrs... I’d say a whole bunch of cuss words now but, I won’t, I’ll just finish drinking my coffee, enjoying a few minute of peace before the toddler wakes up and perhaps do some more research.     PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome) atau sindrom ovarium polikistik merupakan kondisi terganggunya fungsi ovarium pada wanita yang berada di usia subur.Kondisi ini menyebabkan hormon wanita yang menderita PCOS menjadi tidak seimbang karena hal-hal yang tidak diketahui.Tanda-tanda awal PCOS adalah masa ovulasi atau subur yang tidak beraturan, meningkatnya kadar hormon pria (androgen) dalam tubuh wanita, dan munculnya banyak kista (kantong berisi cairan) pada ovarium. Jika seorang wanita mengalami setidaknya dua dari tiga tanda awal itu, maka kemungkinan ia mengidap PCOS.
Gejala PCOS Biasanya gejala-gejala PCOS akan semakin jelas terlihat ketika wanita memasuki usia 16 sampai 24 tahun. Beberapa gejala-gejala umum PCOS adalah:

    ❗️ENDOMETRIOZA, jeszcze kilka lat temu nikt nie wiedział co to za choroba, niestety ciągle tak mało ruszyło się w tym temacie. .
Nie chodzi tutaj nawet o brak skutecznego leczenia, czy fakt, że nie do końca znamy jej przyczynę. 
Moim zdaniem największym problemem jest ciągle wmawianie kobietom, że ból podczas miesiączki to coś zupełnie normalnego! .
▫️Endometriozę zdiagnozowano u mnie w roku 2013 podczas laparoskopii. Był to w sumie przypadek, że została ona u mnie wykryta, ale jak rzeczywiście wyglądały wtedy moje objawy? 🖊 Istnieje ból i ból. W moim przypadku, przed operacją bóle były tak silne, że doprowadzały niejednokrotnie to utraty przytomności. Dlaczego ciągle tak ciężko trafić do lekarza, który stwierdzi, że nie jest to normalne aby dwudziestoparoletnia wtedy dziewczyna, tak cierpiała? 🖊 Problemy trawienne, które mi doskwierały przez wiele lat, nigdy nie zostały połączone z aspektami ginekologicznymi. Dzisiaj wiem, że większość z nich spowodowała i dalej powoduje właśnie endometrioza. 🖊 Notoryczne zmęczenie. No bo przecież to normalne, że nie miałam siły, mimo tego, że moi rówieśnicy pracowali, trenowali, chodzili na imprezy i dalej mieli więcej energii niż ja. 🖊 Gdy już jednak zostałam zdiagnozowana i stwierdzono, że rzeczywiście choruję na endometriozę to dostałam dwa wyjścia: leki antykoncepcyjne lub zachodzi Pani w ciążę...„Halo halo, ktoś chętny, bo potrzebuję zajść w ciążę?” - tak wtedy z ironią skomentowałam zalecenia lekarza. Czy którykolwiek z nich wspomniał kiedykolwiek o diecie i o tym jak można poprawić standard swojego życia? NIGDY!

    ❗️ENDOMETRIOZA, jeszcze kilka lat temu nikt nie wiedział co to za choroba, niestety ciągle tak mało ruszyło się w tym temacie. .
    Nie chodzi tutaj nawet o brak skutecznego leczenia, czy fakt, że nie do końca znamy jej przyczynę.
    Moim zdaniem największym problemem jest ciągle wmawianie kobietom, że ból podczas miesiączki to coś zupełnie normalnego! .
    ▫️Endometriozę zdiagnozowano u mnie w roku 2013 podczas laparoskopii. Był to w sumie przypadek, że została ona u mnie wykryta, ale jak rzeczywiście wyglądały wtedy moje objawy? 🖊 Istnieje ból i ból. W moim przypadku, przed operacją bóle były tak silne, że doprowadzały niejednokrotnie to utraty przytomności. Dlaczego ciągle tak ciężko trafić do lekarza, który stwierdzi, że nie jest to normalne aby dwudziestoparoletnia wtedy dziewczyna, tak cierpiała? 🖊 Problemy trawienne, które mi doskwierały przez wiele lat, nigdy nie zostały połączone z aspektami ginekologicznymi. Dzisiaj wiem, że większość z nich spowodowała i dalej powoduje właśnie endometrioza. 🖊 Notoryczne zmęczenie. No bo przecież to normalne, że nie miałam siły, mimo tego, że moi rówieśnicy pracowali, trenowali, chodzili na imprezy i dalej mieli więcej energii niż ja. 🖊 Gdy już jednak zostałam zdiagnozowana i stwierdzono, że rzeczywiście choruję na endometriozę to dostałam dwa wyjścia: leki antykoncepcyjne lub zachodzi Pani w ciążę...„Halo halo, ktoś chętny, bo potrzebuję zajść w ciążę?” - tak wtedy z ironią skomentowałam zalecenia lekarza. Czy którykolwiek z nich wspomniał kiedykolwiek o diecie i o tym jak można poprawić standard swojego życia? NIGDY!

    I grew up in a culture where eating breakfast cereal most mornings was the norm.

Frosties was my absolute favourite as a kid but as I grew up I came to fear the flakes!

The messages came loud and clear from diet culture. Cereal was bad for you. Carbs AND sugar ❌❌❌

So I switched to the “diet friendly” special K. Seeing this box again brought back so many memories of only allowing myself this cereal.
.
This was the “good one” for a while until the next faddy diet taught me that I had to have lean bacon and poached eggs.
.
When I gave up dieting, I still struggled with breakfast. I found a breakfast that I loved (hello apple and blueberry breakfast crumble!) but to be honest, I’ve felt pretty anxious about deviating away from it too much.
.
The voices in my head still whisper “cereal is bad” “you shouldn’t have milk” “you’ll be hungry soon” but I laughed in their faces today and just enjoyed a lovely bowl of this stuff!

    Butuh bertahun-tahun untuk mendapatkanmu, Nak! 
Setelah vonis "PCOS" hampir meruntuhkan niatku untuk memilikimu, dan kata-kata kejam yang keluar dari mulut manusia tentangku hampir menyayat urat nadiku.
Setelah ribuan tetes air mataku menetes tak tertahan, ratusan tablet obat yang masuk ke dalam tubuhku, beberapa tahun mencoba untuk sehat, tapi ternyata... Kedatanganmu lebih indah, Nak!

    Date Night with the Hubs!!💋 So excited to have a date night with the hubs.  He left for a two week training hours after I got home from Reign .  He comes home just two days then leaves again for the week.  Finally we snuck some couple time in.  His work schedule keeps us apart a lot but we always make time for family time and couple time.  Truth is he is my best friend so I cherish our time together. ❤️you @opieff19

    It has been one of those days where I’m moving a little slower & I’m not processing things quite as quick - was trying to send a video of my apartment to a friend and it was taking me a second to find my words & I couldn’t remember the words for coasters, place mats, or futon🤷🏻‍♀️
Sometimes you don’t have a lot of control over how busy your week may be, but you can make conscious decisions to help make it more manageable & to also recover. I was able to fit some exercise in a couple days which is always helpful for me, and so far have filled most of today with mindless activities like sweeping & mopping my apartment, doing some laundry, and going for a run. I know it’s important to find balance & to not push yourself too hard, but sometimes you have to hang in for a little bit until the weekend/break/end of the day.
What works for me to help with those days/weeks that are crazy busy ->
•packing my own lunch/snacks (helps me stay on top of my eating & super helpful if you can do it the night before)
•finding little pockets of time to move (taking breaks from studying to go for a quick walk, going for a run, doing a 20 min at-home workout after work)
•lay out clothes for next day before you go to bed & back up your school or work bag the night before
To recover after ->
•cleaning (this helps me because I feel like it’s something I can control & I get to feel productive while not thinking too much)
•schedule time for yourself (I need to spend time alone to help recharge!)
•get a good sweat in

Before I was diagnosed with PCOS I thought so many of these symptoms were just “normal” emotional woman kinda problems , a part from the silent symptoms, which unless I had pushed and pushed my doctors to keep hunting for because I was feeling the way I was I would have never even known I had 🤦🏼‍♀️

Since being diagnosed and deciding not to go on any kind of hormonal birth control to “treat” my symptoms and instead make diet and lifestyle changes, I have never been so in tune with my body. .
Once I began to see, feel and hear these symptoms showing up day to day I was able to work out exactly where I needed to start making changes. Most of my symptoms are worsened by stress and what I eat. So now , this is what I focus on💫

    Look at this picture.  Really look.  I am a woman. Mother.  Wife.  I also shave my face almost daily( waxing breaks me out, laser didn’t take 🙈). I have #pcos .  When I was 14 a boy asked me why I had a mustache.  I was mortified and began shaving.  Later I was diagnosed with this disorder.  I have high androgen levels which creates heightened testosterone creating what’s called #hirsutism . Male pattern hair growth.  This is not just peach fuzz.  We are talking stubble.  Thick course hair.  I am sharing this to open up a conversation about this.  After working in the beauty industry for almost a decade,  I have realized 100’s of women do this everyday.  More and more women are being diagnosed with this disorder.  It creates weight gain, depression, infertility etc.  So many women come into me for waxing or when I was in a med spa for laser and ALL of them were embarrassed.  Every 👏🏻time👏🏻 I would let them know they are not alone.  The beauty industry has an un-attainable standard and uses marketing that has a negative undertone to make you feel like you “have” to change.  I am hear, showing this pic to say you are already beautiful.  Everything else you do is bonus.  Celebrate your flaws and be proud of your struggles.  They make you , YOU.

    You need to see this. You need to see that you’re not alone on the days you can’t control your emotions, your mind races with anxious thoughts and you feel deep sadness within you yet you don’t know why. You need to see that even when you’re making progress with changing your diet and lifestyle there are going to be days just like this, where it all turns to shit and you’ll start to doubt everything you have been doing to overcome your PCOS.

These days are the hardest and rewind the clock 6 months ago and I was having these days more often than not. I used to get so confused and frustrated with myself for feeling like this because I had no good reason to. Everything in my life was totally fine, it made me feel like I was going crazy.
.
Turns out us cysters don’t need a “reason” we are more likely to feel this way just because we have PCOS 🤯 This is powerful knowledge to have because it takes away the need to have a reason or stop asking yourself ‘why?’ on these kinds of days.
.
This was me two days ago, I haven’t had a day like this in such a long time and at first it caught me off guard. I felt out of control and was getting frustrated for feeling the unknown anxious /upset feelings. Once I remembered that these days happens and are apart of my PCOS journey I was able to be kinder to myself and help myself through the day (that’s where the power is 🙌🏼) .

HERE’S WHAT HELPED ON DAYS LIKE THIS 👇🏻👇🏻
💫 Acknowledge how your thoughts and feelings
💫 Give yourself permission to be kind to yourself
💫 Take action to get out of your head (overthinking makes it all much worse) I tried yoga, but found that getting outside with my husband and pup worked much better, being around friends or doing something you enjoy 💫 Remember it’s ok to have these kinds of days .

    Somedays I literally struggled to just be awake .
This I put up with for years. I had no idea that it had anything to do with my PCOS but also when I would mention it to my doctor I was often told to just get more sleep 🤯 I was already sleeping 8-10 hours a night!?

HERE’S WHAT ACTUALLY HELPED 👇🏻👇🏻
.
1️⃣ At the time I was under a lot of pressure at work, I was also getting up crazy early to workout intensity 5-7 times a week. Thie amount of stress on my body lead me to having some adrenal fatigue.
.
👉🏻ADRENALS- high stress situations for our bodies cause the adrenals to produce not only cortisol but DHEA-S a hormone that gets converted into testosterone . It causes PCOS symptoms like irregular periods, hair growth, acne, it can also cause FATIGUE. I PULLED RIGHT BACK . I cut my workouts back and did yoga and Pilates , until my body was feeling right again then I reintroduced HIIT workout , but only 3-4 times a week .
2️⃣ Managed my carb intake , found my carb tolerance and ditched gluten. I was eating healthy carbs but too much for my PCOS body. I trialled reducing my carbs over a few weeks while increasing healthy fats
.
👉🏻Eating too many carbs realised too much insulin for my body to handle (insulin resistance) the gluten was also causing inflammation . Finding my carb tolerance and ditching gluten allowed my body to digest the carbs I was eating better and refused the inflammation in my body🙌🏼
.
3️⃣ The hardest but most BENEFICIAL - I said goodbye to coffee and caffeinated beverages. To try and keep up with my fatigue I was drinking 3 cups of coffee a day. I though I needed it and it was helping, it was actually making everything WORSE
.
👉🏻Caffeine is a hormone disruptor and stimulates the adrenals to produce MORE cortisol (the one that was causing my adrenal fatigue and also causes hormonal imbalances that lead to PCOS symptoms. It was also ruining my sleep, once I cut coffee I was able to sleep 8 hours PROPERLY ! .
Tip 🌟-Cutting coffee is tough but SO WORTH IT. I cut down to one cup a day, then to half shots then to decaf and now just dandelion tea instead. I had headaches and felt irritable at first but this only lasted about a week😘

    I thought I was doing everything right.

I went from gym junkie to triathlete. 7+ sessions a week and I ate “clean”. I was told it was all about calories in vs calories out
.
Everyday I would push myself , at first I enjoyed it and on the days when I didn’t I still trained anyway.
.
Why? Because I thought 💭 “I had to”
.
I was exercising so I wasn’t “fat” , I would bet myself up on the the days that I didn’t. You know what the hardest part was? Even with all the exercise I was doing, I still couldn’t loose weight. .
I had PT’s telling me to work out more and cut my calories. .
I became obsessive over the numbers trying figuring out where I was going wrong.
.
It wasn’t until I hit my rock bottom where my body shut down on me physically and mentally and I was forced to pull back did I finally realise where I was going wrong 🙅🏼‍♀️
.
I was OVEREXERCISING
.
I went from training 7+ sessions a week to walks most days and yoga. It killed me at first. I was so scared I was going to gain more weight. .
I LOST WEIGHT 😱For once I was doing what MY body needed. With all the stress that I had going on in my life and from overtraining this was causing me to GAIN weight .
.
Now a just over a year later and I’ve found my balance and I’ve come appreciate my body because now it feels better for it .
✅I now LISTEN to my body
.
✅I aim for quality over quantity
.
✅I exercise with wellness in mind not weightloss
.
✅I ditched the scales! .
Changing my mindset changed everything.
.
I now look forward to moving my body every day I aim for 3-4 days of strength/HIIT training. But in weeks where I’m feeling stressed I focus more on yoga a Pilates.

    The day I ditched the idea that I had to be on a diet for my PCOS was the day eating got so much easier 🙌🏼

I have recently came to the realisation that the reason why I struggled in the past to stick to a certain way of eating was because I also felt like it was a “diet”. I was “cutting out” foods, restricting my intake to the point where I would feel so bound by the “rules” of what I was eating that a few weeks in I was like a rebellious teenager wanting to break free. Although, instead of sneaking out late at night I was sneaking chocolate bars, loaves of bread and cookies. It was this constant cycle of restrict and then overeat.

Let me tell you straight up. A diet is never going to work. Why? Because we start a diet with an unrealistic mindset and an unrealistic approach. We think that just because another person has got results I will too. We think we have to stick to certain rules. We drastically cut out foods without allowing ourselves time to implement new habits so our mind and bodies can get used to the changes

What is going to work, is getting out of the diet mindset. Eating for PCOS, doesn’t have to be a diet. Its about learning how to eat so that you can FEEL BETTER. .

HOW TO GET OUT OF THE DIET MINDSET👇🏻👇🏻

1️⃣Use the information and advice you read as guidelines rather than rules

2️⃣Start with small changes and allow yourself time to adjust so that your eating habits change for the long term .

Our PCOS bodies are different and sometimes you just have to be able to have a laugh at yourself to get through.
.
With all the changes I have made in my life I am am feeling so much better and grateful to have the body awareness that I do, but there are definitely days I sit there and think “damn I wish I was just normal”. Ever had that thought too ?

It’s ok to have those thoughts, be patient with yourself , be kind to yourself and remember you’re never alone in this ❤️

    CYSTERS SAVE THESE SUPER EASY PCOS FRIENDLY BREAKFAST IDEAS!

I’m a breakfast lover, always have been, it’s my favourite meal of the day.  I am also a creature of habit and tend to eat the same thing most mornings, you probably know by now my #1 go to breakfast of choice is chia pudding 🙌🏼 I even love to add a scoop of protein powder to make it even yummier. .
Chia pudding wasn’t always my favourite breakfast, before I found out I had PCOS I was obsessed with oats, like legit obsessed. I would go to bed thinking about having them in the morning and wake up thinking about them too 😅 .

Once I started learning about insulin resistance and blood sugar regulation and how both of those can contribute to causing our hormonal imbalances I realised my favourite large bowl of oatmeal topped with banana was part of reason I felt like I needed a nap after I ate , had mega cravings and was super moody. .
.
Are oats bad for PCOS then? No! It’s just that I was have too many carbs in my meal. You see, the carb from the oatmeal among with banana overloaded my body with glucose. While I felt full when I finished my bowl, my body would then spend the next little while going into overdrive trying to get my blood sugar levels down . This meant my insulin was also spiking too. It’s this process of too many carbs and insulin/blood sugar spikes that are the problem,  not the oats.

To help myself FEEL better, I had to make some changes to my usual oatmeal favourite. I switched out some of the oats and added in HEALTHY fats, like the chia seeds or almond meal and swapped my banana for berries. I noticed I felt so much more energised after meal. Why? Because the healthy fats and low gi berries we’re helping to keep my blood sugar/insulin regulated 💫
