Mate do I ever love a glute bridge! 🔥 but even more do I love the feeling of embodiment, when you are deeply present to your body, when you can feel what it needs and act accordingly. Learning this has taken me from someone who was constantly criticising myself, striving for perfection that was making me unwell and unhappy, and anxious about what to eat; to a person who loves and appreciates my body, eats intuitively, and deeply enjoys all the things that offers me. Like a healthy social life, more mental energy for things I care about, more appreciation for all the beautiful, amazing forms the human body takes, and perspective about what really matters. To me that’s how we can show up and serve others. Make peace with yourself so you can go out and share your gifts with the world fully and uninhibited. You got this! ⠀

Our littlest darling is so fierce. Neiva told us when she came home on Friday that she wanted short hair, pointing at mine. She said she her long hair made her too hot, and she had trouble with brushing all the knots out without her big sisters around to help style it. We looked at up some short styles and she was raring to go all week. She even overcame an adult telling her the night before that it wouldn't look good because it would get all "fluffy" and be too hard to look after. We don't care about what other people think "looks good", and it's refreshing to see a 7 year old take the same attitude and go with what makes her feel good about herself. She may love it or end up not loving it, but she was fierce enough to try something different, even knowing she'll have to deal with people being negative about it. We will always support a decision to be yourself over being what you think others want to see. Also, looking after hair is not hard or high maintenance. Being responsible for 4 kids, all their appointments, activities and financing them is the actual hard work. it's kinda hard for me because I am sharing things that I really feel insecure w I usually hide by my hair but it's time to embrace them and give them love. ⁣⁣

As you read this there are THOUSANDS of diet companies salivating at the thought that the New Year will have you signing up to their latest program with no regard for the fact that diets have a 95% FAILURE RATE, not to mention the slippery slope that your mental health will go tumbling down😕⁠

YOUR BODY IS NOT THE PROBLEM🙅🏼‍♀️⁠

How you THINK (or, how they TEACH you to think) about your body is the problem).⁠

I grew up watching my mother try diet after diet (FYI, she was NOT fat, y'all. She has a sexy figure)⁠

My grandfather told me to go to Jenny Craig.⁠

In our house, meals were portioned and food was allocated, not freely allowed.⁠

Just like racism has to be TAUGHT, so does fatphobia.⁠

🗣"Don't eat that, you'll get fat"⁠
🗣"Don't you think you've had enough?"⁠
🗣"Your sister can eat that, but you can't. You're not built like her."⁠

When I look at my BEFORE pic, I honestly thought I had "arrived"🙌🏼✨⁠

For the first time in my life, I was FINALLY THIN👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼⁠

I never stopped to consider how I had STARVED myself to get so thin (Literally. I did not eat a morsel of food for 6 weeks)⁠

But worse, I never stopped to consider the toll that trying to maintain such a clearly underweight body would have on my mental health.⁠

YOU DECIDE WHAT YOU THINK ABOUT YOUR BODY.⁠

Whatever has been conditioned INTO you can also be conditioned OUT OF you. ⁠

I believe in you.⁠

No, I’m not talking about space travel, human cloning, or teleportation (though, I wouldn’t mind that one), I’m talking about those tiny little devices so many of us have strapped to our wrists 24/7. Fitness trackers can tell us every little thing about our bodies, movement, and sleep and are intended to HELP us, but sometimes they can actually HURT us🤦‍♀️ Fitness trackers have taken over many of our lives. I have been doing @beachbody workouts now for a few days straight combined with some @plexusworldwide supplements and I cannot explain just how amazing it feels. Yeah my legs are sore from the downbeat strength workout I did yesterday, but I am already feeling a transformation of energy and mood. Minus not doing the dishes the past two nights from being so exhausted but...it's fine. I'll get to them. Tonight I am combining a fight club + melt con workout to make up for missing Saturday for a baby shower. Drink your water. Put on your workout clothes. And get shit done. •

M O T I V A T I O N ⁣

Motivation is hard. Motivation comes and goes. When you are months, weeks or even days into your journey, it can disappear. ⁣

The best way to combats motivation? Discipline, dedication, and wanting. ⁣
When you don’t want to go to the gym, or you just want to go through the drive through because it’s faster, that is where your discipline kicks in. That is where your dedication kicks in. ⁣

I am writing this because I am currently lacking motivation. I have been very unmotivated to go to the gym. After a year of going 5-6 times a week. I’m tired, and my gym is in my building. ⁣

So it’s times to change things up. Don’t want to go to the gym? Do a home workout. This is where I find myself right now. I have been doing a lot at home, because it’s better than nothing. ⁣

I want to change my body. I am dedicated to that, but I need to rely on my discipline now, so I can achieve my goals and make it work. ⁣

Make your life work for you. Fitness isn’t going to look the same on everyone. You don’t need to spend an hour in the gym everyday. If you hate home workouts because you don’t work as hard, don’t do it. ⁣

Do what works! Make your life work for you. ✨

I swear training legs is a love/hate relationship 😂 •

1. Sumo deadlifts 4X8.
2. Reverse lunges 4X10.
3. Single leg hipthrusts 4X12.
4. Hack squat 3X6.
5. (not filmed) back extensions 4X10. •

This workout hits everything, the hamstrings, the quads and the bum. Push yourself with the weight, the last 2 reps should be getting hard. 💪🏼 •

I get to photograph some beautiful wedding dresses. What I love is that everyone has their own individual style.

I think that throws a body image message in the face of negative media... women are supposed to be individuals, so even with all these white wedding dresses, there is so much beauty no matter the style and shape.

What about 2020? You never know exactly what will happen in the future but planning helps you to focus on your goals 🙏🏻 sometimes Life knows better what you need , and you will be happier than you expected. I think learning is never a waste of time, and excercising neither, but just keep it in balance ♎️ your mind needs to learn as your body needs excercise •

I love using @macrostax as a template for what I’m eating, but I think there are still things people need to observe to be truly successful in their fitness journey.

For example, these two meals are meals 3 and 4 for me, and are simply brown basmati rice, sweet potatoes, steak, and asparagus in one. Low glycemic index carbs for long lasting energy and different measurements of each ingredient in each meal based on time of day.

When our body needs nutrients it sends us signals that make us feel hungry and want to eat. We feel our stomach growling, we may feel a bit tired, and the hunger feeling gets stronger gradually the longer we are without food.

When we are physically hungry we could eat anything we have in front of us, or in the fridge or whatever is prepared and it's usually a food that is rich in nutrients like a piece of chicken or meat or beans with some rice and veggies. And after we're done, we feel good and satisfied and move on with our day. .
.
But there are also times when we feel hungry soon after we had just ate, or when we are bored or stressed. This hunger usually comes suddenly and it's not because our body needs nutrients, it's because our emotions need comfort. .
That is emotional hunger, and usually when we are hit by emotional hunger we tend to crave very specific foods, like ice cream, a bag of chips, or pizza. No amount or even other food would satisfy it, and after we're done, we feel guilty and shame for what we did.

The beautiful thing about pain is we know we have access to joy. One cannot exist without the other. So we have to choose to be honest about what emotion is fully present, acknowledge it, feel it, HEAL it and then & only then can we unlock the other side of emotion we truly desire.
This week is all about nourishing vs numbing. So often we try to find “socially acceptable numbing agents” like food (and even fitness) to avoid FEELING our emotions.
Are you there feeling stuck? Do you desire to nourish instead of numb, long term? I feel you, I hear you, I was there. If you are ready to make a change message me... I stayed stuck for too long.
You get to choose, but you have to be willing to do the work. It’s soooo worth it!

We can take any moment and adjust the FEELING of it. Perfect isn’t an actual “spot”. We create what that ideal scenario looks like in our mind and decide that if and only if all of the “right things” happen at the “right time” that’s we did it!
I love this quote because it reminds us that WE decide what a “perfect moment is”. You get to create it!
I’ve realized that the perfect moments in my life are revealed when I surrender the expectations and enjoy the perfectly IMPERFECT moments.

Posting this brings me fear and anxiety but this is my story and it’s important to show you why I am so passionate about promoting body positivity. ✨⠀

I can’t count how many diets, gruelling workouts, insecurities, negative thoughts, body Dysmorphia, self loathing & body shaming has happened in the 15 years between these two photos. ⠀

The girl on the left was 36kg, miserable, thought she was fat, consumed by calorie counting & compulsive exercise, hated her body, feared food and thrived on feeling hungry & empty in the tummy- it meant she was strong and had willpower. She had no friends, people were an inconvenience as her life revolved around her obsessive behaviours and compulsions. She was malnourished, stunting her growth and at risk of dying from a disease called anorexia. ⠀

The girl on the right is curvy, confident and making a daily choice to accept her body as it is and learning to love the skin she is in. She has cellulite, her skin isn’t firm or flawless, her thighs wobble, she has tummy rolls and plenty of body fat. Society says, based on her BMI, she is obese. Based on society’s beauty standards she is plus size. She is surrounded by diet talk, fat shaming, weight loss promotion and a culture that reinforces being less is more. ⠀

But she is resilient, she is so much more than her body. She reminds herself everyday that she is enough just the way she is - she doesn’t need to go on another diet, losing weight is not going to magically transform her mindset and make her more appealing to others and herself. ⠀

She has been to hell and back; her body has been mistreated for half of her physical existence and she is finally, at the age of 31, on a path towards body positivity and living a fulfilling, happy, meaningful life. ⠀

If I can ditch the diet, binge, repent cycle for a life that promotes balance, you can too. ⠀

I am here with you to be a friend & support and to be the change I yearn to see in the world. 🙏⠀

That’s the crux of it. ⁣

We are conditioned from birth to believe that certain bodies are “better”, or healthier than others. Even medical professionals and researchers carry this bias and bring it into their work and treatment of people. ⁣

Yet the truth is thin bodies aren’t inherently “better” than fat bodies, and “fit” doesn’t have a look. But we internalize this idea, and suffer as a result of it - either by how we treat ourselves, get treated by/ or treat others. ⁣

I am content in looking as I do. I’d love to be less tired looking and have a bit more colour to my skin right now, but hey it’s just a shell of the actual me, which lies beneath the surface! .

If you have a visible difference, and especially if it’s new to you - don’t panic, don’t fret....... it it maybe tough right now....... and yes - DO cry when you have to. DO speak to your loved ones and those closest to you. DO join online community and forum chats if it helps. DO know that it IS ok not to be ok. .

Life can full on suck or be full on amazing - and there is a lot between the extremes. .
One thing for sure - life is not predictable and you never know for sure what lies ahead. .

I am content in looking as I do. I’d love to be less tired looking and have a bit more colour to my skin right now, but hey it’s just a shell of the actual me, which lies beneath the surface! .

If you have a visible difference, and especially if it’s new to you - don’t panic, don’t fret....... it it maybe tough right now....... and yes - DO cry when you have to. DO speak to your loved ones and those closest to you. DO join online community and forum chats if it helps. DO know that it IS ok not to be ok. .

Life can full on suck or be full on amazing - and there is a lot between the extremes. .
One thing for sure - life is not predictable and you never know for sure what lies ahead. .
Life is for living. Support is something we all need, and sometimes more than others. .
Whoever you are, and wherever you are - you are beautiful, and special. You are unique! No one else is you, so you really are special! .
