Big Mistakes Will Be Made Wednesday.

Do you know what I hate? Lent.
.
Cut foods out? That’s not healthy. You end up binging. Not acceptable.
.
Cut foods out for 40 days to then binge? That’s acceptable.
.
And that’s what’ll happen.
.
A few years ago I gave people another option which was to do the opposite and use lent as a way of building discipline.
.
Instead of restricting and cutting, have one square of a chocolate bar each day (imagine a big dairy milk).
.
Prove to yourself that you can have one little square and leave it at that.
.
That also has its flaws because there are people that would end up eating it all of course but I think it’ll work for some and I much prefer the idea of using it as a positive to create discipline rather than using it as a way to cut out your favourite foods, and of course we all know how it ends.
.
It’s your choice what you do, I won’t be doing anything but sticking to the process’ which I’ve put in place to achieve my goals ✅

Unfortunately even fit pros photoshop their pics 🙄 yip ! You could be idolising the body of someone who photoshops a big ass and small waist. Or some guy with big shoulder and quads when in fact they just photoshopped it 😣
If you do this to your clients progress pictures or to your own “transformation” pics your the problem with the industry.
As you can see I did a version on my iPhone to show how easy it is to do . Only reason I did this as Iv seen numerous “fit pros” post selfies talking about self confidence yet they badly edited their pics and I seen the warped backgrounds 🤦🏽 don’t post about being confident if you arnt confident enough to put up an actual picture of yourself ! ..

As a PT, one thing I get asked a lot is ‘how do you stay so motivated all the time?’
I think I speak for most PT’s when I say ‘I don’t!’ We’re human, we’re no different from you. But the gym is our passion, our workplace, we don’t have to fit it in after an 8 hour shift elsewhere.
Some days we come in, lift heavy and feel amazing.
Other days we’re feeling a bit off and frustrated. It’s normal.
It could be down to lack of sleep, not enough food, hormones, stress... anything!

But, whatever your fitness goal is, you need to have a plan in order to reach it. Don’t let a bad mood, bad day or even a bad week get in your way.
My top tips for staying motivated:
- Find a workout you enjoy! Whether it’s a class or particular routine, put your all into it. - Buddy up! Train with a friend and hold each other accountable.
- Perfect your playlist! I have 3 for the gym. Depending on the type of workout I’m doing dictates whether I’m in a Rap or Rock mood.
- Mix it up! I love the gym, but we all need a change now and then. Why not try a yoga class, go swimming, indoor climbing or hiking instead.
- Be thankful for what you did lift! Your body’s amazing.
- Make it your ‘me time’. The gym should be something you look forward to, to help you de-stress after a long day. You’re the best version of you when you’ve had your own space to unwind.

I always here women say I dont want to get bulky by lifting weights.
This is not the case.

Increase weight and you'll increase your strength and muscle mass. Increase your muscle mass and you'll increase your metabolic rate. Increase your metabolic rate and you will burn more calories. Burn more calories than you consume and you will lose weight.

Burn calories.

In terms of fat loss, forcing your body to lift heavy weight repeatedly, will stimulate muscle growth, which creates a higher metabolism. ... So even when you are no longer in the gym working out, your body is still burning calories for you.

Back 2 Basics - Eccentric

I'll keep this short and sweet

The eccentric portion of a lift is when the muscle is being lengthened, in this case, the lowering of the bar back down to the boxes

The eccentric portion of your lift has been shown to produce more damage to the muscle tissue and thus produce more growth in the future

The reason for this is down to the fact that your little muscle fibres are trying to hold on to each to hold the weight whilst you lengthen that muscle under tension

A good method of training is thinking about a controlled but powerful contraction (shortening of muscle) and a slow and controlled eccentric

This isn't preachable, but it's a good habit

DB Bench; why you should incorporate it into your training!
Pros:
helps improve imbalances in the chest
Increases development of stabilisation muscles
Increased unilateral strength
Increased muscle hypertrophy
People often stick to the bar as they can add more load but DB bench will help you improve your barbell bench press in the long run so incorporate it.
Only con I have with DB bench is keeping the DB stable so if your nervous get a spotter to help you feel more at ease when increasing your load.
It’s worth it 💪

- Beginners workout -

This was the following workout routine I did when I first started going to the gym.

The workout mainly focuses on compound movements (exercises that require the work of more than one muscle group e.g. bench press works triceps, chest and forearms). As a beginner, you want to make the most out of the rapid growth of muscle that comes with starting out (also known as ‘Newbie Gains’). Therefore, working multiple muscles at once is the best way to approach this.

Try go at least 3 times a week, invest in some protein shakes and eat healthier (don’t worry about cutting or bulking just yet, build your foundations first)

I haven’t put in a day dedicated to legs, feel free to add one in of course. Instead, I recommend just do two leg exercises on the machines or something per session.

I’ve also not included abs as my ab workout has been given its own dedicated post. I recommend doing abs every other session.

Day one (Pull - Back, Biceps,)
- Squats: 4/10 - - Calf press 3/20 - - Bent over rows 4/10 -
- Bicep curl 3/10 - - Pull ups - Max reps
- Lateral pull down 3/10 - Abs

Day two (Push - Chest, Shoulders, Triceps, ) - Leg exercises on machines 4/10 - Incline chest press 4/10 - - Hammer grip bench press 4/10 - Overhead press: 4/10 - - Pec Fly: 4/10 -
- Triceps Extension: 4/10- - Deadlift - 3/10 -
Day three (Compound - Mix)
- Leg exercises on machines 4/10: - Bent over rows 3/10 -
- Overhead press: 4/10 - - Bench press: 3/10 -
- Lateral Pulldown: 4/10 - - Weighted pull ups: 4/10
- Abs

So rejoined this place for the next 6months for a different training approach and hopefully reigniting the motivation to continue the rapid gains we are making - current cycle is TTM at 300mg per week - test Enth, tren enth and masteron enth 3 weeks in and strength and composition has changed dramatically but so has the insomnia, thanks tren 🙃

Confidence
In the gym a lot of people tell me they stay in the cardio section or classes as they don’t have the confidence to go into the weights area or to train alone.
Or they don’t have the confidence in what they look like to go try it.
It makes me so sad to hear that the thing that makes me happiest, makes me feel mentally and physically is so daunting to so many.
The question is what steps can you take to get there? Do you have the support you need?
The only way to get there is to take the first step! We all started somewhere, we all had to learn it, we all had to take that first step. It’s not easy but when you do you will never look back! .

Postworkout refeed at errr McDonald's 😂 Although it's not good to do this too often this is something everyone training and dieting should do every now and then and is something I've always done. You might not think it but dieting and then having a big postworkout refeed of carbs, fats and protein massively boosts grow hormone levels (one now the main hormones responsible for fat burning and muscle growth) alongside sugars which speed up protein intake and also gives your body the sustanance it needs every now and then when growing besides giving you a mental break aswell.One of them main reasons people don't stick to diets is they are too strict, unrealistic and don't include the odd unhealthy meal/ takeaway. This is bullshit and no one no matter how disciplined will stick to a diet of chicken and broccoli 24/7 The odd cheat meal here and there and the odd big refeed meal should be encouraged and not discouraged. Whether it’s boiling, frying, baking it all takes its toll!
Never mind that fact that our fruit and veg do not have the same nutritional value they used too! Organic foods having no pesticides will generally be better for you!
The main point of this post is to try and eat as much fruit and veg raw so you can get as much out of them as possible. Another tip; if you boil your veg use the water for stalk or soup 😃

Scapula holds💪🏼 If like me you’re trying to build strength for pull ups, these are well worth adding to your routine! They look and feel a little weird at first but they’re really important to engage the lats, rather than burning out the arms and shoulders.

This is the very first part of the pull up. Think about pulling your shoulders away from your ears, lift your chest up and squeeze your shoulder blades at the back.

PT life you don’t see much off! ⬅️ this is me programming, researching, learning, contacting clients.
I like the physical part of being a PT more than this bit. I’m enjoying helping people at home over the PC via online even though it’s my least favourite way to train clients. I feel this way only due to I like being there to correct form. Online works well for the motivated, know a fair amount about the gym people. They just need programmed direction. I have more online clients now than ever before and it’s great hearing on a Sunday how they are getting on! .

I get a lot of people who really want to get started in fitness but say it’s the price holding them back.
Don’t get me wrong, I know a lot of people do struggle genuinely and don’t get any of this stuff in the post.
For those who do, let’s add some stuff up;
Hair extensions £120 (roughly)
Russian volume lashes £40
Coffee shop coffees £3 x7 (one a day) =£21 x4 = £84
Weekend night out drinks £50-£100 x4 (1 night out a week) = £200-£400
Takeaway £12 x 4 (1 a week) = £48
All this adds up to £500min and up to £750 a month 😭🤦🏽
How about even buying lunch from the shop Monday-Friday £7 x5days = £35 x4 = £140 😑
Could you save money on any of these? 🤔 if you can at least cutting down on 3 of these would mean affording are least a trainer once a week for a month.
PS cutting down on some of these will help you start with your fitness journey also 😆

Struggling for healthy meal ideas?
I’d you’ve had a little weekend of eating out, enjoying a few drinks and not worrying about calories, then good for you!
Life’s all about balance!👏🏼 When it comes to food shopping, it’s so easy to get into the habit of picking up the same stuff each week, and maybe even binning that same bag of spinach or bunch of bananas that you always seem to forget about!
So make Monday your day to use stuff up! You’ll save money, and maybe even prep-time during the week!

Have a root around your fridge and see what needs using up!
Brown off some onions and garlic, add in some stock, tinned tomatoes, cumin, turmeric and curry powder (maybe even cayenne pepper!) Then chuck it all in! Literally any veg you’ve got lying around!
Pop some rice on to boil and you’re away!

This was a super tasty sweet potato, cauliflower and chickpea dhal with mixed rice!
It can also be frozen so is perfect for meal prep!

Brown off some onions and garlic, add in some stock, tinned tomatoes, cumin, turmeric and curry powder (maybe even cayenne pepper!) Then chuck it all in! Literally any veg you’ve got lying around!
Pop some rice on to boil and you’re away!

Leg day short vid of my heaviest press. Today’s training was hack squats, leg press and leg curl and leg extensions. My leg press consisted of 12 reps at 100kg 8 reps at 300kg and final 6reps at 350kg new PB for this year only way is up from here keep pushing and progressing. Worried about a little extra Holiday Weight?🎅🏼 This time of year it’s cold, dark, probably raining, and that’s an easy excuse to turn to food for warmth and comfort.
So instead of starving yourself all week and binging on Christmas Day, let’s just embrace the opportunity for healthy weight gain.

Cut Update ✂️

6 weeks in...and I’m struggling 😫 I found last week so so so hard!! Pretty much had zerooooo energy the whole of last week, my training went downhill, everything felt heavy, I had to drop the weight on a few exercises...which was SO frustrating ☹️ And the weekend just gone was a bit of a write off 🤦🏽‍♀️ I think because I’d really struggled through the week I just wanted to take a few days off 😴 Didn’t track anything over the weekend so I’m not sure how far over my calories I went (don’t think it was too drastic though) 🤷🏽‍♀️
.
The lowest I’ve been so far on the cut is 72.7kg (down from 77kg) and after the weekend I’ve gone back up to 73.4kg (probably holding a lot of water 💧) Despite that, I’m actually glad I ended up having a few days off, I felt like I needed it 🙋🏽‍♀️ and I’m so ready to get back on it and smash these last 2 weeks 💪🏼

Cardio is still at 5 x 30 mins (with 5 weight sessions) and I’ve put my calories down to 1900 🙃

Physique update!

Okay so far so good despite me dying for the majority of this week especially Thursday and Friday!

I’ve gained 10lbs since starting! BUT due to me being ill I have lost 4lbs!

YES thats annoying as I am aiming to gain as much muscle tissue as possible till the 17th March, as this is when I START my 12 week prep for my first ever comp!

Sightly annoyed but I’m not going to get me down I’m going to work just as hard to run my kcals up (WHEN NEEDED!) allowing me to add that muscle tissue!

So what I mean by “when needed” is because I am bulking doesn’t mean I have to gain fat!

The aim is to gain muscle not fat! If you’re gaining fat excessively then you are NOT gaining muscle.

To optimise muscle gain you have to look at the scales daily and look at what’s happening with your body! Ie are you losing, maintaining or gaining muscle...

And you’ll have the scale data which tells us what we need to do for your next steps so if you have stalled in progression (ie maintaining weight and lifts are not progressing etc) then that’s when you need to up your kcals + macros ACCORDINGLY!

Just because you “stall” doesn’t mean that you go out and have a pizza... it means that you need to up your protein/carbs or fats (accordingly)!
