It’s crazy how our bodies work. How sensitive it is.
Hit a new low yesterday morning. BUT since I barely drink water yesterday. Fuel intake was literally shit lol. I didn’t consume what (enough) I was supposed to. Woke up this morning feeling and looking bloated.
Water retention is no joke y’all.
.
.
.
.
Though I feel grateful and so happy for my progress thus far. I still find myself holding onto things that aren’t in my control.

I liked posted a selfie for the Instagram algorithm to like get support for my “writing post” and I legit COULDNT DO IT. So here’s a photo of my dog.
.
.
I publish my diaries without a pen name that explore subjects of being queer, female, and an addict in recovery from trauma, substances, and patterns.
.....
.....
I publish my journals in the hopes people will feel less alone. I feel lucky to be supported by bookstores and in the process of editing my third book.
......
......
Liquid 🌊 is on my website and local bookstores in Highland Park.

Shout out to @instagram for being the worst app to navigate self promotion for actual artists 😂

Sensory overload is reportedly a very common problem in Fibromyalgia patients, as well as in patients diagnosed with ME/CFS (chronic fatigue syndrome). It’s believed to be one of the core mechanisms, which means that our bodies react strongly to all kinds of input, whether it be individual elements or multiple things competing for your attention.

It seems our brains find it very difficult to process a lot of input at once. This is possibly because of the dysfunction of the neurotransmitter serotonin. It also appears we have a lack of inhibition, meaning we can’t tune out less important things, all of our senses overload our brain with information, and our brain can’t filter or handle it.

This then presents itself with symptoms of sensory overload, and then has a knock-on effect to our chronic illness, increasing pain and fatigue.

The symptoms to sensory overload vary person to person. Some common symptoms include:

* Restlessness and discomfort
* Extreme irritability
* Stress, fear, or anxiety about your surroundings
* Feeling over excited or “wound up”
* Difficulty focusing due to competing sensory input
* Urges to cover your ears or shield your eyes from sensory input
* Higher levels than usual of sensitivity to textures, fabrics, clothing tags, or other things that can rub against the skin
* Fatigue
* Dizziness
* Brain fog
* Burning, tingling, or itchy skin

When I wake up with the brilliant idea to search Facebook for any person that has ever wronged me in my entire life to let them know exactly what I think of them, I need to remember my morning mantra:

Uma pausa para tirar foto do belo prédio aonde fica a psiquiatria.

Hoje está difícil. Meu humor está oscilando e me sinto muito mal em relação ao meu corpo e a comida. Mas, vamos indo, sobrevivendo um dia por vez 😓

Our Traumatic Brain Injury story of the week is professional snowboarder Kevin Pearce. He had a TBI 10 years ago while snowboarding in Salt Lake City, Utah. He went on to film his recovery and create the movie CrashReel to help inspire others to not give up when recovering from a TBI. He now owns the nonprofit LoveYourBrain which helps raise awareness about Traumatic Brain Injuries and brain health. Thank you for everything you do Kevin. You help a ton of people.

We loved having @stretchrelief pay us a visit. Studies show that standing or sitting for long periods of time can take a toll on your muscles. Work hard, recover harder!

I just don’t know what to do. I’m so tired of being at my inpatient unit and it’s really getting to me being surrounded by people who are struggling so much. But the thing is, I don’t really have a life outside anymore like I’ve been really clever and isolated myself so I don’t really have any friends. And I feel like life has moved on and I don’t know how I’ll ever catch up (especially with hardly any motivation)

ANXIETY | IT'S NOT A BAD CLOUD OR SCARY MOVIE | IT'S STRESS RESPONSE | HOW TO GET OUT OF THESE THOUGHTS👇
.
✒@anxiety_wellbeing
🎨@anxiety.assist 👍
🎨@neurosciencenew 👍
.
🌱ANXIETY
Is a natural human reaction, your mind (amygdala) is sensing danger/fear, then sending a message to your adrenal glands to start pumping stress hormomes. The amygdala senses a real danger or a perceived danger.

Examples of causes of anxiety.
.
🌱REAL
Infront of a scary situation. An animal, a fight, an accident.
A constantly stressful situation, arguing, abuse, money worries, bullying. Feeling unsafe.
A physical pain that you are worried about and dealing with the pain.
There are many real situations, events that cause your stress response to be activated.
.
🌱PERCIEVED
Worrying that something WILL happen, cataatrophising.
.
When the amygdala has sensed you are in danger, it's job is not over when the hormones begin. It's job is also to be aware of any more danger/negative because this is a human function designed to keep you alive. This is why we seem to be only focused on all that can go wrong & the longer we have experienced anxiety the more likely it is that you may become even questioning when you're not feeling anxiety.
.
When your thoughts turn to 'what's that feeling? I feel apprehensive & do not even know why?' Take a deep breath for a moment. This isn't a scary cloud moving over you. This is your survival function focused on how you feel, your mind may be scanning for danger. Apprehensive that you're experiencing anxiety because not knowing what this is can feel quite scary & fear is a cause of stress response also. So we have to move away from fearing how we feel.
.
🙏MINDFUL
When this happens we must try to find a level of acceptance. Explain to yourself
'This is my stress response scanning which is normal, I have been a bit stressed but im not afraid & fear makes things worse. Feeling pass, I'll distract this thought with a nice memory or an activity, a song. Etc.
.
You're not a crazy person, you're going through a lot & learning you are not your stress response you are just experiencing it. It will pass.
.

A coach I worked with long ago used to say, “It doesn’t matter how much you love your partner. What matters is whether or not your partner feels loved.”
That eery statement has never left me.
.
.
Someone can bring us the most extravagant offerings of love.
Someone can shower us with endless acts of service.
And yet, we can still feel deeply alone amongst those offerings.
.
.
It doesn’t mean we won’t appreciate those offerings.
I think most of us do.
It doesn’t mean we won’t want those things from time to time.
I think most of us will.
But I believe that nothing compares to someone taking the time to discover the unique and particular way our heart longs to be touched.
.
.
I know for me, nothing will ever compare to someone engaging me with with deep, curious, and attentive questions.
Without those things, I feel deeply alone.
I have had trouble understanding myself for as long as I can remember.
I have done many years of coaching and therapy.
And yet it is still extremely challenging for me to pull myself out of my own shell.
It is an excruciating edge for to voluntarily share myself with others.
I feel most loved when someone takes the time to ask me thoughtful and caring questions.
And I feel most loved when someone shows their excitement and receptivity towards my responses.
.
.
Most of us know of the love languages.
Most of us know that we have a preference of how we feel (most) loved.
And yet I wonder how many of us actually advocate for those needs.
.
.
I wonder how many of us actually speak up when we are feeling disconnected from our partner.
I wonder how many of us have left relationships simply because we were afraid to truly own what we really needed.
I wonder how many of us have pretended not to have any needs because so much of our culture continues to preach extreme self-reliance.
.
.
I know I surely have.
I’m learning to practice communicating this need more and more these days.
And I’m learning to pay much closer attention to the unique way in which my partner feels most loved too.
