THRESHER SHARKS, Monad Shoal, Malapascua, Philippines .

Here is a picture of a stonefish I took while diving in Italy. • As you can see in the photo and as implied by the name stonefish look very similar to a normal stone that would be found in the ocean. This ability to blends in allows them to be excellent ambush predators. • Stonefish are among the most venomous fish in the ocean and are considered by some to be the most venomous. • The stonefishes venom is not used for predation, rather it is used to avoid becoming prey. The venomous dorsal spines contain enough venom to kill a person in an hour and helps to warn predators to stay away from them. • Stonefish live on coral and rocky reefs in the tropical waters of the Indian and Pacific Oceans. • Stonefish are a very interesting fish to see in the ocean, and it is a very fun task to try and pick one out when they are hiding. One tip to help find them is to bring a light since it can make them much easier to see!
