PIE vs PIH

Both can come from as a result of inflammatory acne but how do you tell the difference?

Postinflammatory Erythema ranges of pink to red spots that are dilated blood vessels. Dryness can also contribute to the appearance of PIE

The best treatments are: time, treatments that can fade spots such as Vitamin C, Lasers and a gentle routine that avoids harsh chemicals or exfoliants, hyaluronic acid, staying hydrated and applying SPF.

Postinflammatory hyperpigementation is caused by the overproduction of melanin due to an inflammatory response and usually appears to be light brown-black. PIH is made worse by sun exposure, so trying to treat your active acne with a tan as we've discussed is not the way to do it!

Treatments for PIH:
SPF, Sunhats, Shade, Microneedling, AHAs, Retionols and other treatments that can 'lighten' spots such as vitamin C, Kojic acids, Fermented rice, Azelaic acid, Niacinamide aka vitamin B3.

🎄 On the fifth day of “skinmas” my esty taught me about skin purging 🎄⁣⁣
⁣⁣
This happens when you introduce an active ingredient that increases the skins cell turnover rate (Retinoids or even exfoliating acids). The skin starts shedding dead skin cells faster than had before. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
What’s happening is that our skin is expediting it’s healing process and pushing everything to the surface. The purge can last up to a month or two depending on the individual. Or you may not experience one at all. The pimples can be anything from a blackhead to a cyst. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
💕After the purge, your fresh skin cells will reveal clear, healthy and younger-looking skin. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
🛑It’s so important to keep your focus on all the fun, happy things in your life at this time and steer clear of the mag mirrors!⁣

What is skin purging? Here’s how to tell if you’re purging or breaking out
.
.
Our skin is pretty incredible - it can tell us a lot of different things without having to whisper a word. Whether it’s thirsty for some moisture, needs a hit of vitamin C serum, or craving a good masking sesh, it’s usually pretty easy to gauge what your skin needs.

But one thing that can be confusing? Knowing why you’ve suddenly got a face full of pimples. More specifically, determining if your skin care products are causing your skin to purge, or if you’re just experiencing a normal breakout.

If you're like me, it's full on sweater weather where I am. Often we notice when it's time to change our wardrobe for winter, but it can be harder to know what and when to change in your skin routine.

It's time to make adjustments to your routine if:

💙 You notice an increase in dryness - SPF should be a part of your routine 24/7 365, even if you work indoors. You may also notice that you need extra hydration around the lips and mouth during the winter season, so it's great to invest in a lip balm that helps lock in hydration and protects your skin! A lot of acne treatments can be really harsh on the skin's outer layer and this can be especially true during the winter months.

💙 If you notice an increase in breakouts - whether it's inflammatory acne or spots (open/closed comedones), if nothing else has changed about your stress/lifestyle it could be time to switch up treatments for the season. Sometimes dryness can lead to your skin overproducing sebum, and your skin has less of a resistance to bacteria causing the spread of acne. So you may want to add a hyaluronic acid to help your skin retain it's moisture

💙 You may want to ensure that your products do not contain too many drying, stripping or active ingredients. It can be tempting to look for every step of your skincare routine to be full of active ingredients, but this can actually do more harm than good! Be strategic and when in doubt treat active acne or regions that you are concerned about rather than the whole face!

Has anyone tried a jade roller to improve their skin?

I admittedly am an intermittent user of this super beautIfiful tool that is said to stimulate collagen production, reduce redness and help with puffiness.

Now while the Jade roller is not a magic cure all (neither is anything, tbh) it can help with a few things

💚Increased circulation, which can be helpful when you have inflammatory acne

💚It can help with product absorption.

💚 Some experts say the ritual itself can be relaxing and can indirectly help breakouts. It can stimulate some hormones lowering a stress response or reducing cortisol production. It can also help with tension and releasing the stress from the muscles in the face. This can be said for most acts of selfcare or relaxation but it's fun when your ritual could be helping your skin now/ and in the future!

💚 Some experts cite that jade rollers can help with removal of toxins or lymphatic drainage!

If you -do- have active acne, be careful when applying pressure with a jade roller or using any dermarolling techniques. In fact, if your acne is primarily nodular, we recommend visiting with an expert for treatments and asking your derm/esthetician about the best option for you and your skin.

Be sure to clean it thoroughly after using. From our experience, the jade roller is best used on hormonal acne or to help product absorption if you are treating PIE/PIH or scarring.

How do you feel about jade rollers?

Started using new products with AHA, BHA, Vitamin C or some other exfoliants and experienced outbreaks?
DO NOT WORRY!! 😁😊
Your skin might be just purging!
Continue using the products to get it's best benefits after your skin finishes purging.
So what is SKIN PURGE? 🤔🤔
Purging happens when you introduce a product that speeds up your skins natural turnover. Clogged pores deep in the skin will rise to the surface

If the new products that you're trying contains ingredients that resurface skin like Vitamin C, Retinols, acids like AHA, BHA, etc. and you experience some outbreaks, it's likely that you're purging and not breaking out because of the product.
Thankfully, purging shouldn't last long. Most purging lasts for only about a month, which is the amount of time that it takes for your skin to renew. If your skin is purging, you need to stick with the new routine/product - use it as much as you're supposed to, according to directions. Using product improperly can exacerbate purging and breakouts.

Purging is usually non-itchy and is not painful unlike breakouts 🌟

How to choose the right mask for you?

Here's the low-down, and how to choose which mask may be right the next time you're shopping.

If you're looking for brightness/added hydration:
💧 Look for masks with ingredients like Hyaluronic Acid
(a humectant which means it draws moisture from it's surroundings which is why it's in many leave-on skincare products. This can help boost hydration, give you that dewy glow and HA is safe for all skin types)
💧 Look for masks with collagen boosting ingredients peptides or vitamin C which promote healthy cell turnover and can give you a glow
💧 Only go for cream masks if your skin is very dry and cracked (From something like accutane or Retin-A) and stay away from fragrances and long ingredients lists that may cause more irritation

If you are looking to combat oil/combat existing acne
💙 Clay masks can draw out the impurities or the dirt, debris or trapped in the pore and can help with sebum overproduction - the act of rinsing also exfoliates the skin promoting healthy cell turnover.
💙 Ingredients like Sulfur can also be great for acne prone skin, it is an anti-inflammatory and can also draw impurities to the surface of the skin, though it is extremely drying and you may find you only want to apply it to areas with an active breakout
💙 Niacinamide can be great for PIE and is an amazing anti-inflammatory for active acne. It can help fade scars and even skin tone and is not as drying as some other acne fighting ingredients like Alpha Hydroxy Acid.

Sheet masks are all the rage right now and while they are super fun, temper your expectations about effectiveness - they are often meant with the purpose of calming the outer layer of skin so you likely won't observe lasting benefits.

Happy Halloween Friends!

We hope you have something fun planned to celebrate! We thought we'd drop in with some skin tips so the only thing spooky about this holiday are the horror movies playing in the background of any fun themed parties you may attend.

🎃 Halloween make-up is NOT the same quality as something that you'd buy at Sephora, or even a drug store so make sure to keep that in mind when applying it. A lot of it is highly comedogenic, so if you are prone to break outs, it can definitely clog your pores.

🎃We also recommend patch testing an area for irritation. High quality make-up is meant to allow your skin the ability to 'breathe' whereas some of this make-up can be more like a 'mask' where debris and dirt can get trapped and more easily clog your pores. Make sure you are applying your make-up to freshly cleansed skin, and make sure you take extra care in removing the make-up at the end of the night.

🎃 A great part of celebrating Halloween is all the many delicious desserts and treats that you may consume. We are all about you living your best life, but highly recommend you track in the etreatacne app to see if there is a change in your skin if you are consuming more dairy, refined sugar or gluten. It doesn't mean you have to stop eating it. It may just give you peace of mind to know what is causing your breakouts and give you control when you're trying to look and feel your best.

🎃 Not super into Halloween? Treat yourself to a face mask instead. You don't have to dress up to have fun with it! My favorite mask of the moment is the @graceandstella Gold collagen mask.

What are you doing for Halloween? What are your costumes?

Don't be alarmed!!! It's normal!!! When you start using #NaturalProducts, it commences with a deep cleaning action the skin goes under. This deep cleansing or #detoxifying action is also called a #SkinPurge, where the natural ingredients of the product removes all the toxins from this skin.
This can lead to localised breakouts for some people. This break out is different from an allergy or acne as this will subside in about 3 to 4 weeks. That is the amount of time it takes for the epidermis to renew itself. It is therefore best to continuously use the products for a month to see actual results. Going through a month of a skin detox will reveal healthier and radiant skin.

However, these localised skin purging breakouts should not be confused with an actual allergic reaction. An allergic reaction will cause symptoms like rashes, spots, redness, swelling or itching in not just the localised area you are using the products on but beyond it too. Therefore, it is always recommended to do a patch test before you use any skincare product.

Make sure you read the label to check if it contains any ingredient you are allergic to before you use the product.

Sometimes other external factors can affect your skin like weather, stress, hormones, food habits, recent illness etc. Do not ignore the above while trying out a new product. As most times, it would be these factors causing the breakouts and not the actual product itself.

Have you heard of it? Skin purging, acne flaring or new skincare induced spots? The theory is this, you’re using a new skincare product and before your skin can reach that happy place promised by the adverts, your skin has to go through a spotty phase to get there.

skin purging, is used to describe a quick increase in the number of spots you’d normally suffer from as a consequence of using a new skincare product.

The key to understanding this process is that your skin should only purge with certain types of skincare… and this is one sure-fire way to understand whether you’re experiencing purging or a non-compatible skincare breakout. Unlike breakouts, if you’re experiencing skin purging, the effects should clear within 2-4 weeks.

This is how the theory of skin purging works. Skin Purging: Due to Increased Exfoliation.

🧡🍂Treat yourself with a Turmeric Latte! 🍂🧡

There is a reason that you may be seeing golden mylk or turmeric lattes at all of the fancy coffee shops!

They are delicious, something a little bit different, warming, caffeine-free and most importantly turmeric is great for decreasing inflammation. Turmeric, scientifically known as Curcuma longa, has anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and antioxidant properties that have been known to help brighten the skin, heal active acne and other wounds, prevent breakouts and lessen the intensity of active ones.
A lot of experts feel that reducing inflammation throughout your body will lead to fewer breakouts and that acne may be the way of your body presenting inflammation (meaning acne can be a symptom of other issues that need to be addressed.) 🧡

Here's my personal recipe :) 🧡1.5 cups coconut or almond milk (for a rich, creamy drink I recommend the coconut, feel free to do half of each)
🍂1-2 teaspoons coconut sugar, monk fruit, maple syrup or sweetener of choice (if desired and to taste)
💛1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract 🧡1 teaspoon ground organic turmeric
🍂1/2 teaspoon ground organic ginger
💛Pinch cardamom
🧡1/2 teaspoon organic cinnamon
🍂Pinch ground nutmeg

If you are a fan of #adaptogens I really like @harmonic_arts 'Golden Mylk' with Turkey Tail and Ashwaganda 🍄 **I try to use organic because that is what feels best for me, but if that is hard to find or you just aren't super into organic, standard is great!** Heat milk either in a small sauce pan or in the kettle until it is at a slow boil. Add in your sweetener and all of the spices and whisk until thoroughly combined. Sprinkle with more additional cinnamon and coconut sugar! If you are a PSL kind of person, add in 1 tablespoon pumpkin puree as you heat the milk alternative (Vitamin A, bonus!). #acne #noacne #acnefree #healthyfood #diettracking #beauty #naturalbeauty #hormonalacne #skincareaddict #selfcare #selflove #skincareroutine #skincare #breakout #pimple #accutane #antiaging #acnetreatment #skintreatment #followforfollow #spottreatment #clearskin #glowingskin #acneeducation #skinpurge⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ #skinpositivity#redness #enlargedpores #recipe

✨What area of your face do you notice the most amount of breakouts?

In our eTreatAcne app, we help you keep track of not only the severity of your acne over time but we help you break it down by region.

✨Why is this important?

Where your acne is located can tell you a lot about what is causing your breakouts and how you can treat them. If your acne is not localized to a specific area, it likely means there are a number of factors contributing to your breakouts and your immune system may be weakened and unable to fight off the spread of p.acnes bacteria.

✨Having bangs or hair that actively covers your face can cause breakouts because the oil, debris and bacteria can spread and clog your pores. This can also be a problem if you use a lot of product in your hair. Stay away from products that have unnecessary fragrance, SLS, or do not easily rinse out. Also, consider pulling your hair back if you are like me and often go a few days without washing it (Especially if you hit the gym or go to other public places.)

Forehead acne can also be the cause of stress and indigestion. Think about if your diet has changed lately, or if you have noticed more bloating or abdominal pain after eating. Fighting inflammation in other areas of your body should help the active inflammatory acne on your face!

🍂 Fall is here, and that means cozy sweaters, hot beverages, and pumpkin everything!

🍂It also usually means turning to comfort food and indulging. We are all about supporting you while you live your best life, but it's also important to know what foods or environmental factors could be leading to your breakouts.

🍂Does gluten impact your skin? How about sugar? Caffeine? There is no one formula to follow which is why it's so important to track using our app, eTreatAcne. It helps you get to the bottom of what is causing your breakouts and will help you build a custom routine beyond just what products you are using.

🍂Using the eTreatAcne app, I know to expect a breakout from things like airplane travel, changes in humidity, excessive stress, less sleep, when I get my eyebrows threaded and more. I follow a diet specific to me feeling my best (gluten free, vegetarian, dairy free, soy free, caffeine free, alcohol free, refined sugar free. weee!) and have skin that looks healthier as a result. It's not perfect, I'm not poreless or a filtered human in real life - but it's these little tweaks that help me feel my best.

🍂So indulge, but do what is right for you, and try not to ignore the signs your body gives you when something is a trigger.

✨Nothing is more frustrating than finding an acne treatment that works only to still have scarring left behind.

So what can you do to treat scarring?

✨ Turn to antioxidants. You may use spot treatments to dry up or help the spread of bacteria with active acne. For acne scars, you are going to want to use a different approach. Antioxidants, such as Vitamin C, can brighten dull skin and lighten dark spots from scarring. It helps repair the skin barrier and also forms a protective layer much like a seal to prevent further damage.

✨ Try Glycolic acid - this active can help with active acne as well as hyperpigmentation. This acid works as a gentle exfoliant and promotes cell turnover, helping to remove the top layer of skin to reveal a brighter more even complexion. You can use a mask, peel, or exfoliant/cleanser or pads.

✨ Microneedling - This one I have been meaning to try! Microneeding is said to be excellent for both acne, acne scars as well as anti-aging. It works by gliding tiny needles over the skin, we recommend visiting a professional instead of at-home devices. It breaks down collagen bundles in the top layer of the dermis - these micro-injuries prompt your body to send resources to the outer layer to heal the skin and boosts the production of collagen.

✨ Laser or light therapy treatments that focus on the removal of the outer layer of damaged skin and stimulate collagen production.

✨In terms of tips that are free more affordable avoid picking or popping your pimples. Eat a diet rich in vitamin C and antioxidants. drink water and exercise to help place your body in a state of natural collagen production to help promote healthy cell turnover and exfoliate with gentle acids 1-2 times per week depending on the sensitivity of your skin.

✨Happy Monday!✨

On this Monday, I wanted to share with you my favorite smoothie of the month. With the season changing, I am starting to shift what I'm craving (don't worry the pumpkin recipes will come in due time!)

Here's an amazing, nourishing recipe for your skin.

Why share recipes on an acne account? I talk to experts all of the time that says that skin is one of the last places that our bodies present when there is inflammation. Your diet is so important! Here is what is tricky and where the eyerolls ensue. It's not any -one- diet that works, it's finding the foods and lifestyle that works for you. However, these ingredients are associated with reducing inflammation and are helpful if you are trying to kick processed food and refined sugar.

Want to test what works for you? Track your diet, stress, sleep and more in the notes section of the app! Find out what causes your breakouts over time.

Okay, getting off my soapbox now.

Here is the recipe!! (I think it kinda tastes like Golden Oreos!)

Coconut Snowflake❄️
🥥1 tablespoon almond butter (raw, organic)
❄️1-2 tablespoons coconut flakes (you can also use ribboned coconut or coconut meat)
🥥1 scoop vanilla vegan or high quality grass fed whey protein
❄️3-4 dates organic, soaked
🥥1-2 cups vanilla almond milk unsweetened, for a creamier consistency sub for coconut milk.
❄️1/2 cup ice (filtered water)

I also add in 1 tbs maca powder, chaga and lion's mane🍄.

Blend and enjoy! 💁

Out with the old and in with the new, they say. In order to manifest something new, you have to have the space for it to enter. Your body and mind will start purifying itself to prepare for it. ⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
Healing is often not a glamorous process. When you start to dig deep and shake things up, you can expect a little chaos and things to be out of sorts. My skin has started to purge as I’ve been pushing beyond where I’ve previously explored with my healing. I noticed a few weeks ago that my skin was breaking out which is very out of the ordinary for me. And now, I actually have skin sloughing off and new skin growing. ⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
Trees shed. Animals shed, which is called moulting. You see it among birds, snakes, frogs, hermit crabs, even beetles. They are sloughing off their former selves. Along our spiritual journey, we too have to shed. Shed all the beliefs, unhealthy behaviors, attitudes of our former selves that we are no longer aligned to.⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
Although my vanity doesn’t want to embrace it, this shedding is part of my spiritual growth. I can see the glow of the light at the end of the tunnel. This sacred process is healing me and allowing me to rise up to my next level. So bring on the purge. ⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
Work Hard. Play Hard. Self Care Harder.⁣⁣⁣

Yikes!! My skin is going crazy after trying a new skin care product - what is going on?? .
.
Are you breaking out in the same spot? Do you feel the whiteheads, blackheads & comedones are coming and going a lot quicker? Does this new product contain active ingredients?
.
.
You are going through a skin purge! Active ingredients and high end cosmeceuticals treat ALL layers of the skin and treat the live tissue in the dermis. So all that congestion that was underneath and getting trapped is coming out. Remember: what goes in must come up and out. Skin purging is a good sign, it is cleansing, detoxifying and removing toxins from your skin and increases your skin cell turnover by rapidly exfoliating the dead skin cells, dirt, oil and sebum to make way for newer, glowy and fresh skin. And usually the comedones disappear quickly (given that it hasn’t be touched and picked by your finger 👀) This should last between 1-3 weeks and I know how impatient and frustrated we can get, but the wait will definitely be worth it. Don’t give up on that product just yet! Stick with it for another 1-2 months and if you don’t see an improvement then switch over to another one. .
.
ANOTHER TIP > not everyone will go through a skin purge! It only happens to people who have PRE EXISTING congestion under the skin. .
.
2ND TIP > skin purging is completely different to breaking out. Break outs occur in new places on your face, causes inflammation, redness and itchiness around the new comedones. It also takes a long time before you see these pimples disappear. This is why your home care skin routine is just as important as having your treatments! .
.
3RD TIP > Changing products every few weeks or mix and matching between 5+ different brands can also cause you to purge AND breakout! You could be using a high active ingredient that is present in all different brands without realising eg. Glycolic acid. Changing products too quickly will not be able to give you the proper benefits of what that product is suppose to achieve and eventually, after the purge you may experience the irritation and inflammation symptoms of breakouts. .
.
Skin can never be perfect but we can definitely improve it 💖💖

🍂Fall's just around the corner. 🍂

What does that mean for your skincare?

We always talk about how your routine should adjust just like the seasons!

🍂 You may find you need a heavier night moisturizer, especially in the evening.

🍂 You may want to skip cleansing in the morning, especially if your skin is already try from acne treatments to avoid stripping it of it's natural oils even further.

🍂 It may be time to downsize or go back to basics. Sometimes we think we are doing the right thing by buying all of the products that we have read will help treat our acne. The truth is, piling on all of those products may be cancelling out the benefits. Go back to basics with a simple routine and slowly add over the course of months. If you don't know where to start check out the skincare routine section of our eTreatAcne app.

🍂 Focus on hydration. Make sure you drink enough water and while it's tempting to make every mask about drying up actives, don't skip skin plumping masks or treatments rich in hyaluronic acid to help maintain your skin's moisture levels.

🍂 Even if you're not soaking up the summer sun, SPF is not negotiable!

Good morning!😆☀️ I took these photos soon as I woke up- with and without flash!💥 I found that I was comparing myself to society’s standards of beauty recently and it’s not healthy! We look on Instagram and people have edited or air brushed out there perfections just to fit in to what misconception of “beauty” is. (I’m not saying this isn’t beautiful- because it is. I’m saying in need to stop comparing myself to unrealistic expectations)
I know I need to except my flaws and imperfections and stop looking in the mirror only to look at the negatives.👎🏻 I am making a promise to myself that when I look at my reflection I need to say 3 things that define ME and that I love!
Yes we all love a good filter - but even without that filter... you are beautiful. Don’t let society dictate what beautiful should look like💙🦋✨ #acne #acnejourney #acnepositive #lovetheskinyourin #roaccutane #roaccutanejourney #differingel #love #positive #mydifferinacne #dermapen #acnescars #loveyourscars #dermatologist #beauty #face #spots #purging #skinpurge #skin #breakouts #dothingsdifferin #myacnejourney #loveyourself #beyou #beauty #breakouts #acnecommunity #undesirablesofinstagram

Ok so excuse the face I’m pulling😂 It was after a very sweaty rehearsal for a show called ‘The Brits’ - but I’m just reflecting on my skin😔

I went from perfectly glowing skin to Acne in a matter of months! It’s really crazy how your body changes. For me I think it’s something within! I feel like it’s so do with my hormones!
I need to keep thinking positive and realise if it was like this before, it will be like that after😌🦋✨ ✨ #acne #acnejourney #acnepositive #lovetheskinyourin #roaccutane #roaccutanejourney #differingel #love #positive #mydifferinacne #dermapen #acnescars #loveyourscars #dermatologist #dermaplaningfacial #face #spots #purging #skinpurge #skin #breakouts #dothingsdifferin #myacnejourney #loveyourself #beyou #beauty #breakouts #acnecommunity

❤️Back to school snacks!❤️

✨So I know we talk a lot about trigger foods, and it may feel like there's nothing eTreat Acne approved that isn't a vegetable, but there's lots of sweet treats you can make that will hold up on the go and will give you the energy you need to conquer your day whether you are heading to work or class.

This is my personal fav cookie recipe of the moment. I love it mid morning or in the evening and find that it gives me energy!!

✨This cookie is more than just a tasty treat, it's awesome for reducing inflammation and can help with mental clarity. Many of the ingredients have skin-nourishing benefits - enjoy!

🔥Preheat oven to 350 degrees 🍪COMBINE:
1 cup almond flour
1/4 cup coconut flour
1 tablespoon organic cinnamon
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon sea salt
Set aside.

In a separate bowl,
🍪COMBINE:
6 tablespoons coconut or MCT oil
6 tablespoons almond butter (I use organic, raw)
2/3-3/4 cup sweetener of choice (I use 1/3 cup monk fruit and 1/3 cup coconut sugar)
1 free range egg beaten at room temperature or one chia or flax egg to make vegan
1.5 tablespoons pure vanilla

Add in dry ingredients slowly until the dough is fully formed. Add in dark chocolate of your choice. I like @eschocolate in 88% Dark. I also like @giddyyoyo in 100% raw chocolate. I usually add in about 1/3 cup chocolate chips, and then sprinkle more on top, but live your dreams. High quality dark chocolate is full of antioxidants, iron and can make you happy! 🍫

Bake for 10-12 minutes depending on your oven - let these bad boys cool before eating. Store em in the freezer and take them in your lunches! These cookies survived multiple long haul car rides in the Oregon heat a few weeks ago and the few that made it home were just as delicious as the day I baked them!

To most of us the definition of skin purging and breakouts are the same thing! Right? WRONG!!! Skin purges occur when the skin cells builds up more quickly than they would normally do, which can sometimes cause a mass of flesh toned clumps.
Breakouts occurs when our sebaceous glands overproduce oil which gets stuck in pores as well as our dead skin.
Certain factors can trigger both breakouts or purging so it’s vital to know what triggers what and to stay on top it.
Happy hump day all.

The power of make up!💥
Ready to hit the stage for our America Rocks Show last night!😝🤘🏼
I always use @esteelauder Double wear for the stage- simply because of the coverage and it stays Some-what put throughout all the sweating😂😅!! I wanted to share this post simply because it’s crazy what make up can do! I’m not saying this makes me more beautiful, but it sure gives me a little extra confidence!
P.s Don’t judge the lip liner! I hadn’t put my lipstick on yet😂😁

|| NEOGEN "Day Light Protection Sunscreen" || Yesterday I went through my IG pics and realized I haven't done much products review anymore, I've done too much sheet masks review 😂 So here I am, showing you the sunscreen I used for more than a month already. I bought this sunscreen because it is made specially for sensitive skin and not many brands make sunscreen FOR sensitive skin. WHAT I LOVE: This has slightly tea tree oil scent. This doesn't break me out, true what it says, this so gentle and efective for sensitive skin people. This glides soooo smooth. This also doesn't leave white cast which is a huge plus! WHAT I DON'T LOVE: This is way to oily and slightly greasy on me. For you who have normal to dry skin, you'll love this as this also moisturize your skin like crazy. For me, I just have to blot my face throughout the day. Beside how oily this feels, I find myself keep using this because it's so hard to find sunscreen that suits my sensitive-acne prone skin and this is so expensive. Too expensive that I just have to keep using this until it's done. But so far, it's been a great product! Have you tried this?

|| RAMBLE || 2 days I have been debating whether to post this or not. After long consideration, I decided to do it. It's been 1 or even 2 months since I went foundation-free, baring my bare skin to the world. I do still wear foundation, but only on Sunday, because I realize I still love makeup! ❤ The pics above are my skin WITH foundation on, and no, I'm not using concealer. You see, even with foundation my skin are not perfect; big pores and acnes and scars. I don't like using concealer. I don't like making my face flawless and knowing underneath is completely the opposite. When someone complimented me how good my skin is when I wear foundation, I silently said,"No, this is not my real skin." So that's why I ditch foundation on weekdays. Since then, I no longer hear compliments on my skin (except my wonderful BF). What I hear is, why my skin are so...rough-looking. I got various answers; stress, hormonal, or haid. The first week was hard not wearing anything to cover up. People staring and questioning and giving disgusted look. I was super tempted to put back my foundation on. But I strenghten my heart, keep my decision to NOT wearing any. And then I found a community on IG. In the midst of perfection, this community motivate me to be my self. This community is you guys, the ones who encourage me, tell me that's everything is fine eventhough my skin is not, the ones who suggest things rather than insulting. You people on IG are truly my inspiration. Your honesty inspires me, you make me realize that I am not alone, and THOUSANDS of people are dealing the same thing like me, and I'm. Not. Alone. I know I have a lot of acne and scars and big pores, it's not perfect compare to others. But you know what's perfect? My imperfection is perfect. All those things on my face are part of me. I started to love my skin even though it's disgusting. I started to love....myself. If people don't like to see my face, then don't. But I like me, this is me. In the end, my view of mysef that matters, because that's when I got my confident.

Purging is the result of introducing a product that speeds up the turnover rate of skin cells and therefore speeds up the acne life cycle, bringing all kinds of yet-to-surface (baby) blackheads, whiteheads, and pimples to your skin’s surface more quickly.

To figure out if your skin is purging, check if the product you’re using contains active ingredients. These are the only ingredients that can cause purging (versus a bad reaction) because they have properties that increase cell turnover. The following active exfoliating ingredients cause purging:

1. Alpha Hydroxy Acids
2. Beta Hydroxy Acids
3. Poly Hydroxy Acids
4. Retinoids
5. Vitamin C
6. Benzoyl Peroxide

So if your product doesn’t contain an ingredient from the list above then you’re likely not purging, but rather having a bad reaction to the product.

You should also watch where you’re breaking out. If you’re purging then your acne will surface in the same areas as normal. If you’re breaking out somewhere new, then this is a sign of a reactionary breakout.

🔎 "Face mapping is the ability to see the reflection of the body's organs on each part of the face by observing the face's complexion — such as lustre, dullness, and colour [and breakouts!] — as well as the tongue and face expression," Chapman Lee
⠀⠀
If you keep getting breakouts in the exact same spot, it might actually be your body trying to send you a signal. Face mapping is an ancient practice that connects what is happening in different "zones" of the face to what may be going on inside the body🔍🦠🧫🧪 Book an appointment to see a LA Skin Therapist to analyse your skin 🤩

A. At one point or another we all experience a breakout, purging or a rash from a new skin care product. It can be difficult to recognize the differences so here’s your guide....
.
∙ Purging is when the bacteria from the deeper layers of the skin come to the surface resulting in a pimple. This usually occurs with the start of products that increase cellular turnover like AHA/BHA, benzoyl peroxide, prescription/OTC retinol, acne treatments, detoxifying clay masks and even some active aromatherapy products. It usually happens in areas of the face that are more oily like the nose, chin, forehead, and cheeks. It also happens in areas that you generally are already prone to getting pimples in. The lifecycle is very different with a purge, as the skin heals a lot faster than with a regular pimple.
.
While the act of skin purging can be quite annoying, in the long run it’s getting all the bacteria out of your pores resulting in healthier skin. If you skin starts to improve after the initial purge you will know it’s just that. Now if it continues to break out it very well could be an acne or dermatitis....
.
∙ Reactionary acne usually happens in new areas of the face that you typically don’t get pimples in. Other factors to consider are the condition of your skin before starting a new product. If you are already sensitized or inflamed a new product can very well give you a reaction. While if your skin is pretty calm when starting the new product your skin could act perfectly fine. If your skin is breaking out more and not healing this is not a purge. The product is giving you acne and this product may just not be for you.
.
∙ Dermatitis or allergic reactions also can be mistaken for breakouts. Usually, these types of reactions cause redness, inflammation and tiny little bumps or whiteheads that are different than traditional looking breakouts. It could just be a sensitivity or even an allergy and this is when I would recommend stop using the product altogether.

|| THE FACESHOP "Jeju Volcanic Lava Clay Face Mask" || I'm sorry I look scary in this mask. I don't know what to expect until I open the packaging. This sheet mask in sandwiched between clear film and white opaque film. The mask is 2 different parts, one for your forehead, and one for your lower part of your face. The mask itself is brown in color, the texture is...weird. It's like clay pressed into the mask and it's not even wet. It's DAMP. To be honest, it's not a good feeling to put this onto my face. This fit is okay, the smell isn't. Smells like chinese herbal medicine and I don't like it. Oh, I also had to rinse your face with water after this and there's still clay-leftover on my face!!! 😫 I have to wipe my face with toner again and the cotton I used just tinted with brown-clay color 😕 Would I recommend it? Nope! I prefer clay mask that's in a jar rather than in sheet mask form like this. The damp mask is not something I want 😅

Has anyone tried this? I bought this in Watsons (or Boots?) Thailand after read some reviews. This is acne scars gel, you can also use it if you have other scars wherever those are. Basically, they say it could help the scars fade. Now I only rely on vitamin C at night for my acne scars, but I also want to use something else in the day. So this morning, I tried using this, after toner and before moosturizer, applied it very thin on my scars, waited until it's dry then just slathered on the moisturizer. Will update you how will it go! (Nb: I have some SERIOUS irritation my lips and I think I'm allergic to something but I can't remember what did I eat yesterday. It is ichy and red and my lips are literally have tiny bumps, guys, and sometimes it hurts 😭😭😭 I keep applying Vaseline to prevent my lips from drying, but do you have other suggestion because it is VERY uncomfortable....)
