Young soccer superstar @amir_ramz123 demonstrating one of my favourite stability and power exercises for the very first time. Took a few attempts to get this right but this young man is developing quickly.

👉🏼Initial single leg balance with weight

How to Squat
.
Squatting is one of the most fundamental lifts there are and is great for building strength in the lower body. However, a lot of young athletes have poor technique, so I’m going to go over the 3 biggest things to keep in mind for good squatting technique.
.
1. Knees stay behind the toes (butt back). You need to keep the weight in your heels, and keep your knees behind your toes because if you lean forward too much it places a lot of pressure on your knees and ligaments in your knees (ACL etc). Imagine you are sitting on a chair. If you need to, put a bench behind you to ensure that your butt gets back and your knees stay behind the toes.
.
2. Keep back straight. This is important because when doing a back squat or any squat with a lot of weight, if you lean/hunch forward, then you can injure your back. Try and either look up or at least push your chest up to make sure that your back stays straight.
.
3. Get knees to bend to 90°. This means that you need to make sure that you are getting low enough to get the full range of motion in the squat. If you don’t go deep enough, you are cheating the rep and not getting as much activation as you should be.
.
Squats will be scattered throughout my workouts, so master the form with your body weight, so that you can add weight for my workouts/programs.
.
Remember, it is always OK to lift a lighter weight if it means you need to work on your form. If you don’t complete all 3 of these things, then the rep does not count and you should not increase weight.

So many people who follow this page have ambitions of going pro or getting that college scholarship. However, some of you are too busy worrying about the outcome, and neglect the NOW.

There are some things in this life that you can't control. Such as teams not having open spots, team budgeting issues, scholarship restrictions, visa issues, coaches opinions etc.

This can lead you to getting disillusioned and thinking you are not good enough. However, the one thing you can control is your work ethic each and every day. So rather than focusing on going pro or playing in college, try becoming obsessed with improving every day.

Be better than you were this time last year, 6 months ago, a month ago, a week ago, even yesterday. If you are constantly improving, then you are giving yourself the best shot at reaching the next level. Don't be the person who wishes, be the person who works.

As cliche or corny as it sounds, be the best possible version of yourself. Never stop trying to improve. That way, you will have no regrets. Just give everything to your goals and no matter what, you will be a success regardless of the outcome.

PASSING DRILL.

Here is an excellent passing drill that you can do with a partner to work on directional first touch and passing.

The Setup:
1️⃣Get 3 poles/cones.
2️⃣Line them up about 3-5 feet from each other.
3️⃣The first touch is a one touch ball back to your partner.
4️⃣Followed by an explosive back pedal.
5️⃣The ball is played to your left foot.
6️⃣Take a directional touch opening up your body and hips.
7️⃣Once done with the touches, you are the server.

Work to get a rhythm. Once you get a rhythm, work for time.

Work for 45-60 seconds as fast as you can while keeping your technique sharp. •
As always, make sure to work the other foot as well.

PASSING DRILL.
•

“V” Cone Drill (advanced)

To do this drill set up the cones in a V or triangle pattern about 1 yard apart each. Have the partner start about another yard off the top of the V with the ball, he will stay there the whole time.
.
First, it is a 2 touch pass at the top right cone. Then, quickly back up as the partner will pass the ball through the first gap. You have 1 touch to touch it behind the bottom cone, and pass it through the second gap with another touch. Then, quickly get to the top left cone for a 1 touch pass. Shuffle back to the top right cone and repeat a minimum of 5 times. Then we did the same thing but the opposite direction (2nd video.)

This will mostly help you with your first touch and your speed of play. Each pass comes very quickly so you have to know what is going on at all times, and have the technical ability to be able to execute good touches and good passes. Since the drill is so small, there is very little room for error. The drill is even difficult for the passer because they have to be perfect with their passing or it messes the whole drill up.

On the “touch across” it is best if you touch it with your back foot so that you open your hips, instead of dragging the ball across your body. This requires the passer to play a properly weighted pass to the correct foot. If you mess up, just keep going until you get it right.

If you play any sport, you've had a poor performance at one time or another. That's just how it goes, but what separates those who grow from moments like these and those who spiral down is the mindset and habits leading up to this poor performance, as well as the thoughts immediately after. Having good daily habits, especially ones that push you out of your comfort zone (at first) are really what contribute to a mindset of persistence. It is this mindset that is what's needed to bounce back from a potential downward spiral. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Some examples of strengthening this muscle of persistence on a daily basis are things like: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
(This is a personal list of things that I find difficult to implement into my life on a consistent basis) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1. Taking cold showers
2. Doing yoga/stretching when you wake up
3. Doing a small workout before bed
4. Going to bed early so I can be well rested and in turn wake up early
Etc
All things that aren't necessarily easy to implement consistently or are comfortable ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The purpose in bringing up daily habits at all, is so that when the time comes and you inevitably have a poor performance, you are accustomed - rather your mind is accustomed - to dealing with circumstances that aren't necessarily easy and require a certain level of persistence to push through. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
There are always two paths you can go down when a negative situation presents itself; one of persistence and one of self pity/blame. One is difficult as it forces you to face reality, the other is easy as it keeps you in your bubble of comfortability. If you are consistently working on strengthening that muscle of persistence, then it makes choosing the more difficult choice that much easier when the time comes. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

The majority of semi-pro/amateur teams train twice a week with a game at the weekends. If you only train twice a week, that means you HAVE to be doing work outside of team training if you want to achieve your potential. It can be individual technical training or gym training, and managing your lifestyle.

For example, as a central defender, would you rather come up against a striker like player A or B? The answer is obvious. Player B is going to be ready to go; fully fueled, recovered, and a solid week of training under their belt. They are going to be leaner and stronger, fitter, and faster.

If you aspire to be at a higher level, you need to be player B. You need to make football your lifestyle, and take all aspects of your training, on and off the pitch, seriously.

Have a long hard think about who you want to be, and what you are willing to do to become that person.
