Such a great time at the premier of the #longgonebyfilm. Bravo @emilykmorgan & @andrew_morgan for bringing this story to the light ❤️ Find this film and watch it. Not only will it force you to ask difficult questions about our current cultural climate, it will also cause you to analyze your place alongside others in the greater story of humanity.

Back to school for students and educators is just around the corner, whether we're ready or not. If you're a parent/family member of a child with a developmental disability/special needs, you know just how stressful of a time this may be for your child. Below, I've given a few tips to help with the anxiety of the next couple of weeks.

Tip #1: Create a "back to school" visual countdown or follow along on a daily calendar. Talk to your child daily about going back to school in September and remind them that it's only a couple of weeks away.

Tip #2: Prepare them for any/all changes. Let them know about a new teacher/teaching assistant, new classroom, new school, new classmates, new desk, new entry and exit door, new hook/cubby, new daily schedule; absolutely everything that you can think of or are aware of that will be different and give as much information about each as possible. This way, your child avoids as many negative surprises as possible on their first day.

Tip #3: Create an "All About Me" book with your child. Get them to tell you their favourite toys, games, activities, books, school subjects, colours, sports, animals, ect. Together, create a 'book' with these, along with pictures. It's also helpful to add things like dislikes, fears, triggers, coping mechanisms, successful strategies, any medical information/allergies, toilet training information, independent eating, dressing/undressing, ect. You can add really any information that you'd like your child's new teacher to know about them and try to get this book to their new teacher before the first day of school, if possible (drop it off at school with the principal or through email). This not only helps your child's new teacher in getting to know your child better, but it's also a fun activity to do with your child and it helps with their anxiety to know their teacher already knows so much about them before they even meet. - Karlee #karleesrespiteservices #respite #asd #downsyndrome #cerebralpalsy #developmentaldisabilities #specialneeds #acceptance #gta #mississauga #ontario #canada #inclusion #dsw #developmentalservicesworker #autism #awareness #ta #specialneeds #advocate #backtoschool #stress

Yup. Bedtime is the new Let’s Do Our Triathalon Workout for #felixneptune. Also, the same child WHO DIDN’T NAP TODAY. It’s when he starts playing with his feeding tube that I step in. Feeding tubes aren’t toys. (The straps on his legs are meant to help strengthen his weak legs and encourage his future ability to stand.) Oh, and he feel asleep about three minutes later.

👉🏼When I first joined this industry back on 6/30/2015. I was broke. I didn’t have the $99 to start. One week after starting I got an over draw notification in my email 😭 This was before the overdraft fees hit. Before I got my starter kit. Before Justin realized I maxed out my only credit card to start in an industry I literally knew nothing about with random people from the internet. Crazy 😜? Girlllll I KNOW. You don’t have to tell me how INSANE it sounds but what did I really have to lose? Because for real I hadn’t really had other options 😂. .
.
‼️I know how people feel about this industry so I made it a point to always be transparent. I never promised people anything that I hadn’t already done myself. You can see that it wasn’t always upward motion, much like anything in life. I also didn’t become a #Gazillionaire overnight. I don’t live in a #Mansion or drive a #Lambo! You probably won’t either ... I mean you could .. I guess but I’m not making promises 🤷🏻‍♀️. .
.
🔹When I originally made this graphic I was showing people in my last company the possibility of sticking things through. What I didn’t know was that 2018 would turn out to be my most profitable year with that company. I made it to the Top 150 - by both hard work & changes in the company. When ish went down and I suddenly found myself in a position I literally NEVER IMAGINED I told myself “I’m walking away from the Industry as a whole” but then through a series of mentors (&their advice) that I picked along the way I realized that the asset wasn’t the company.... the asset ...
.
.
IS ME. (LIKE HELLO... DUH!)💁🏻‍♀️ .
.
So 💁🏻‍♀️ I started over somewhere new except now I’m incredibly experienced... and Im about to do what i did before 12x FASTER + it’s $1 so there’s that.

Summer is ending soon, and school is back in session in just a few days. Here are some helpful suggestions to increase focus and stamina. Repost @center4psych I especially like the hawk hug 🤗 because it completely releases your shoulder muscles and is so relaxing.

!!Special Needs Kitty Alert!! “Handsome Hobo” is his name and he is struggling a bit right now with a combination of flea allergies and vision loss. Hobo is going to need a special owner that can commit a little bit more time and love into this sweet boy. In return, Hobo can offer you a surplus of hugs and cuddles.✨

Im not sure if you guys knew this, but baby Nathan was named after my fav @ufc fighter from Stockton @natediaz209 I support him for many reasons but what sold me is the fact that he shared Nathan’s story on his page and he followed me to check up on Nathan. So today we support him in this big fight. Baby is in a huge fight and so far he hasn’t given up, a warrior just like Nate Diaz. #ImWithNateDiaz Thank you for the shirt @representltd #warrior #helpbabynathan #cutislaxa #NICUgraduate

“All things are difficult before they’re easy.” I fucking hope that’s true. Being the boys mother is the hardest thing I’ve ever had to face.
Being a typical mother is one thing. Providing guidance, nurturing, teaching your children to grow into a functional healthy adult, and fill their life with love.
Being a mother to physically disabled children is just so much more. Cleaning up and tracking bodily functions. Physically moving your children as they outgrow your ability. Washing and maintaining their bodies and their most private parts with unabashed care. Feeding them like you would an infant because they can’t for themselves. Administering and keeping records of medication and supplements, dealing with side effects. Anticipating needs. The degree of love and compassion that goes into not only being mother but nurse, caregiver, therapist, and doctor.
Being a special needs mother is watching your friends and family living their life while you’re stuck. This is where social media can be a killer. Watching them doing things you wish you could. Things you can’t afford. Things you couldn’t do with a skilled care provider for your special needs children and a babysitter for your typical ones. The experiences that are robbed from you. The things you will never get to experience. The isolation not just for your child but for yourself.
It had to be hard before it’s easy, right?

What’s better than a book about a dog? A book about a dog overcoming a big challenge and finding the strength and determination to walk again! Meet @ivy.the.frenchie! This has been Conner’s favorite book while we’ve been in Toronto. He always picks it first to read! Such a cute, encouraging book with great illustrations! 🐶💙💪🏼

So here’s the story... we were just at @thecityflea walking around, enjoying the vendors and good food, when this girl comes walking toward us holding up her arm. I said, “Look Lamp!” And without ever having said a word to each other or knowing who the other person was, this was how they greeted each other.
.
That is the power of instant connection that can only come from someone who walks a similar road. ⚡️⚡️⚡️
.
The mom @tiff_johnson14 was there about 1 second later and it turns out they’re a former #specialneedsspotlight family! They don’t even live in town but were just visiting and we happen to run into each other. What a small and awesome world. So good meeting you and your daughter Tiffany! 🌎❤️
