One of my personal favorite exercise. Bent over cable row is the exercise where your shoulder gets extended and your elbow gets flexed. Shoulder extension targets your latissimus dorsi more as compared to shoulder adduction. So the exercise in which your shoulder gets extended targets your lats and give a massive breakdown in lats. So bent over cable row is exercise done to have a broader back. Muscles involved in this exercise are latissimus dorsi, trapezius, posterior deltoid and biceps. What Lat pulldown do?
Lat pulldown performed with the correct form and technique leads to massive growth in muscle size of latissimus dorsi. Shoulders, elbow and scpaula are the three important joints which helps in lat pulldown. For broader back and a massive growth of your latissimus dorsi you have to make sure that your scapula is depressed. Watch full video and look where my shoulders are and how I'm performing the exercise. There's no need to make any movement from your shoulder or to move your body. You just have to adapt a proper form. Scapula plays role in every exercise, here you have to depress you scapula. You train your biceps when the bar been pulled by your elbows, your elbows gets flexed and your biceps gets trained. Shoulders adduction targets your latissimus dorsi and posterior deltoid. Your trapezius also get trained while your scapula is depressed. So this exercise targets growth for latissimus dorsi, trapezius, posterior deltoid and biceps.

Too many individuals are robbed of their brain power….⠀⠀

The young athlete struggling with disordered is overly emotional, hysterical during most practices (this was me, years ago)⠀⠀

The child not tolerating his meals (or tube feeding meals) is extra fussy⠀⠀
⠀⠀
The child with type 1 diabetes can’t focus in class after bad hypoglycemic episode (BG <50 mg/dL)⠀⠀
⠀⠀
These are all different kinds of starvation (food restriction, inadequate intake, brain glucose deprivation) yet they all leave one feeling “off”⠀⠀
⠀⠀
…⠀ ⠀⠀
If these are things you notice in yourself or your child, the body is kindly (but forcefully) trying to tell you it needs more energy (food). ⠀⠀

Ask yourself: ⠀⠀
⠀⠀
Are there regular meals and snacks in place? ⠀⠀
⠀⠀
Are there more than 3-4 hours between meals/snacks for children or 4-5 hours for adolescents (and a little longer, but not much, for adults) ⠀⠀

Are you including all the foods at meals (protein, carb, fat via whole foods)?⠀⠀

I have a goal
A goal to qualify for Boston again.
So in order for me to do that, I not only have to run and train properly but also my nutrition has to be on point.
This morning, the best sports nutritionist @jfgaudreau took my body fat % and weighed me. I hadn’t weighed myself in months. I need to know this to know where I’m starting from.
I have made a choice:
No more alcohol
No more dairy (I only put a minimal amount in my coffee)
No more gluten
No more refined sugar

I am not telling you that you need to do this as well. I am only sharing what I am doing so that my body can run more efficiently. Kind of like putting gas in your car. You wouldn’t put vegetable oil in it would you? It wouldn’t work properly.
I am allowing one cheat week during March break 😝
I’ll let you know how it’s going in one month as well as how I feel overall.

These days "I'm too busy" is the most commonly used excuse for not being on top of our health and fitness. Being busy is almost worn like a badge of honour. For a lot of us, "being busy" is almost a full time job in itself. That's not to say that a lot of us aren't actually busy though. Even if fat loss is a priority - we only have so many hours in the day. ⠀⁣
⠀⁣
So, for all of you with a lot of family and work commitments - here are my 6 top tips for fat loss on a very busy schedule.⠀⁣
⠀⁣
1️⃣ Plan Meals - when you try to wing your meal plan, you run the risk of getting it very, very wrong. Planning out the meals you want to eat during the day gives you more structure. Trying to improvise just takes more effort in the long run.⠀⁣
⠀⁣
2️⃣ Prep - you're busy, you get home late, tired and hungry, cooking is too much effort so you eat junk or order in. Sound familiar? Preparing your meals can prevent that. Taking 1 hour a week to cook meals in advance will help keep you on track and saves you time.⠀⁣
⠀⁣
3️⃣ 2-3 Meals a day - you don't need to eat 6 meals a day. It doesn't need to be complicated. Keeping your diet to 2-3 simple, delicious meals each day makes everything much simpler and easier to follow.⠀⁣
⠀⁣
4️⃣ Weights - you don't need a 6 or 7 day split, again, this is over complicating things. If time is limited a 45 min full body workout 2-3 times a week is a fantastic routine that will bring fantastic results for the time commitment.⠀⁣
⠀⁣
5️⃣ Daily Activity - get up and move more. However you can. Park further away, take the stairs, when you take work breaks go for a walk. Any little way you can increase your activity, even if it's a 10 minute stroll, will help. ⠀⁣

I hear this quite often in my day to day.

Scope of practice is the permitted actions a healthcare can take under the terms of thier liscence or degree 👩‍🏫 I 100% believe that this holds true. Too many people are giving advice they should be.

However, at the same time I see practitioner's sending away patients to another "specialist". Before you know it, the patient has to see a physician, dietitian, personal trainer, physical therapist, and psychologist in order to be "healthy". 💸 I can tell you right no one has time for that and most people don't have that kind of money.

In my personal opinion I think healthcare professionals should be more well rounded and educated in thier neighboring fields.

If you are in the healthcare industry get a personal training certificate, take a nutrition course, a motivational interviewing lesson, and broader your knowledge and ultimately your scope.

This doesnt mean you begin diagnosing someone with a mental disorder if your a therapist.

It means your able to help the person beyond food, such as if thier eating patterns are an emotional issue or they need to move more in addition to diet changes to help with blood pressure.

Learning can also help you be a better coach. Learning behaviors and motivation can help you sell your services to more people and ultimately change lives (sales isn't bad if you come from good intentions). Provide the best service to your clients and be a more well rounded professional, broaden your scope!

Deadlift.
The only exercise where lot of muscles are involved within. The bestest exercise to improve your strength. Proper form and technique leads to super strength and makes your core more powerful as your core also involves in deadlift. As it is a power lift (structural lift). Deadlift is not at all harmful if done with the correct form and technique. The most functional moment and also the daddy of all power lifting movement. Your legs are also trained in this exercise at the point where your knee extends and hip flexed/extends. Deadlift are mainly trained on back day because its main goal is to train your lower back (erector spinae). The muscles involved in deadlift are erector spinae, trapezius, glutes maximus, hamstrings and quadriceps. Deadlift improves overall strength of your body. Deadlifts teaches the body to lift a heavy object off the ground using the strength of entire body.
How to perform :
1. Stand close to a loaded bar on the floor feet under the bar and make sure your tibia bone(bone below your knee) should touch the bar.
2. Stance should shoudler width feet pointing forward.
3. Grip in a dead grip manner. One prone and one supine.
4. While standing up make sure your elbows are lock.
5. Lift the bar keeping your shoulder tight (scapula retracted) and while going down make sure you bend your body only then when bar crosses the knee.
6. Neck must nutral not extended nor flexed.
7. Inhale while starting the rep and exhale while ending.
Deadlifts are risky only when you perform it in a wrong way. Make sure your warm up before performing deadlifts or any other exercises. Warn is the best fuel for your bones to perform any movement.

🧐I see this over and over again, people wondering why their weight or body composition won't budge but denying that they are overstressed, overtrained, and/or underfueled (note: underfueling can mean enough calories but not enough nutrients within said calories). ⠀

🙅🏻‍♀️Our body has a way of fighting back especially when it feels overworked and underappreciated. Your body cannot tell where stress is coming from, it just knows when it's had enough. Where does this stress come from?⠀

🧨Work⠀
🧨Life⠀
🧨Family⠀
🧨Relationships⠀
🧨Exercise⠀
🧨Body Image ⠀
🧨Nutrition⠀
...and more⠀

🥵When the body is at a 12 out of 10 on the stress scale, adding intense exercise as well as stressing out over every last morsel we put in our body, only adds to the stress.⠀

🥺This doesn't mean that we should hide in a hole, stop moving and eat everything in plain sight. Instead what this means is👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻⠀

1. We need to implement stress management tactics that are NOT extreme nor intense. This could be meditation, yoga, dinner with friends, therapy, journaling, etc.⠀

2. We need to take actual rest days, not "I only ran 10 miles or I climbed a mountain today it was fine" rest days. Movement on rest days is fine, exercise is not. ⠀

3. We need to pay less attention to the scale and more attention to how we feel. Note: THE NUMBER ON THE SCALE DOES NOT TELL YOU HOW TO FEEL.⠀

4. We may need a heart to heart with ourselves--how many times in your life have you thought "i need to lose weight" only to look back 1 or 5 years later and think "dang I was so fit back then"--your future self loves you, why don't you love you? ⠀

🥵When the body is at a 12 out of 10 on the stress scale, adding intense exercise as well as stressing out over every last morsel we put in our body, only adds to the stress.⠀

🥺This doesn't mean that we should hide in a hole, stop moving and eat everything in plain sight. Instead what this means is👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻⠀

1. We need to implement stress management tactics that are NOT extreme nor intense. This could be meditation, yoga, dinner with friends, therapy, journaling, etc.⠀

2. We need to take actual rest days, not "I only ran 10 miles or I climbed a mountain today it was fine" rest days. Movement on rest days is fine, exercise is not. ⠀

3. We need to pay less attention to the scale and more attention to how we feel. Note: THE NUMBER ON THE SCALE DOES NOT TELL YOU HOW TO FEEL.⠀

4. We may need a heart to heart with ourselves--how many times in your life have you thought "i need to lose weight" only to look back 1 or 5 years later and think "dang I was so fit back then"--your future self loves you, why don't you love you? ⠀

As the days get shorter and temperatures continue to drop, many individuals experience the ‘winter blues’, or even SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) - a type of seasonal depression that in most cases occurs only during the winter months. Individuals may experience low energy levels, oversleeping, changes in appetite or weight, or feeling consistently depressed.❄️❄️⁣

Vitamin D, omega-3 fatty acids, physical activity, gut health, are all factors that can play a role in mental and physical well being.⁣

Looking for high quality and efficient protein sources?⁣

Here is a list of some of the most effective and highest quality protein sources you can get in your diet! These are not ranked in any particular order but they do represent some of the most easily absorbed sources that give you the most protein and leucine per calorie.⁣

That last point is an important one. Many foods give you protein in an absorbable form. But not all of those foods give you enough leucine and total protein without also providing you with a ton of calories. In other words, getting enough protein from those foods would require your to consume a fairly large number of calories! ⁣

As you can see, the foods listed here provide you with enough protein to maximize muscle protein synthesis while providing at most 280 calories and as little as 110 calories. That’s well within reason and can fit into anyone’s calorie budget!⁣

Quem é meu paciente ou meu aluno sabe da minha paixão pelo suco de uva ❤️🍇 E sempre gosto de deixar claro dos benefícios dos diversos compostos bioativos das frutas para a saúde e performance esportiva 🤩 . .

Já falei aqui que quando consumidos de 1 a 2 horas pré treino essas substâncias das frutas podem acelerar o processo de recuperação, sem inibir a resposta adaptativa, e podem até melhorar a performance 😍 .

Foi o que um estudo brasileiro publicado ano passado no Jornal Europeu de Nutrição demonstrou: ✅ 14 corredores (homens) consumiram 10ml/kg de peso de suco de uva 2 horas antes da realização de um teste de corrida até à exaustão a 80% do VO2 max (consumo máximo de oxigênio) e quando comparados com o grupo placebo tiveram uma performance 18,7% melhor 🤩 🍇🏃🏽‍♂️ O grupo placebo correu 12,6 km em 59,2 minutos e o grupo que consumiu o suco de uva correu 14,5 km em 68,4 minutos (ou seja correram mais e demoraram mais tempo para chegar à exaustão) .

Ainda numa análise individual o estudo demonstrou que apenas 2 atletas não demonstram melhora da performance com o consumo de suco de uva pré treino 😌 . .

Parece então que o consumo de 10ml/kg de peso de suco de uva no pré treino de sessões realizadas até à exaustão pode contribuir para a performance esportiva 🤩 .

Além da individualidade bioquímica deve se levar em consideração que o ideal é o consumo do suco de uva orgânico já que além de não conter os agrotóxicos muito comumente utilizado nesse tipo de fruta, o suco orgânico também contém mais polifenóis (compostos bioativos) 🍇😍 .

E uma dica interessante também, é utilizá-lo antes de dormir para melhorar a qualidade do sono já que é uma fonte interessante de fitomelatonina 🍇😴 .

If you advise a 250 lb. athlete their body can only absorb 20-30 grams of protein per meal, they would have to eat 9-10x a day to actually meet their recommended intake of ~1.6-2.2 g/kg/day. While the 100 lb. gymnast may benefit from the 20-30 gram/meal recommendation, you can see how this way of thinking is completely flawed. Body size matters. Training regimen matters. The athlete’s overall body composition goals matter.

All the protein you take in DOES get utilized, but not all for muscle synthesis. While building and repairing tissues is one role of protein, it’s not the only role. Protein is utilized for creating hormones and enzymes, improving bone health and immune function, and so much more.⁣

Also remember - if you eat too much of ANY macronutrient fat, carbohydrates, OR protein, a surplus in TOTAL calories will lead to weight gain.⁣

The 4 meals/day example may not be realistic for everyone. It may be easier for you to eat 3x/day. Or 6x/day. What matters most is your total protein intake for the entire day as a whole.⁣

I’m back at uni!! I’m doing a MSc module in sports nutrition and I’m loving it! So interesting and relevant for what I’m doing now for @strongandsxy 💪🏼 Hopefully I will be able to share a lot more performance based nutritional info / meals with you. We have to design a meal plan for an elite cyclist during a 3 day stage race for my assessment in a few months and I get to cook the meals to present to the class 😍👩🏼‍🍳 🥗 Anyway, here is a good example of a well balanced plant based plate with some great sources of plant based protein ~ wholemeal sourdough toast spread with @seadfoods tahini, chickpeas and mushrooms fried in olive oil with herbs de Provence, Edamame beans and rocket salad 🥗 So busy at the moment but will try and keep up the recipes with relevant nutritional information and hopefully a bit more sports related too 🤓
