Yesterday was supposed to be paused squats for sets of 5, although watching this video I think it’s safe to say I’ll have to increase my pause time a bit in the future. Keeping it conservative, I stayed down at 425 and it felt pretty good - this was my last of 5 sets. Volume has been feeling great recently, especially since I’ve been following deadlift days with squat days. Core stability has also been feeling good, as I’ve been putting a little more time into the basics and my warm ups/cool downs. Trying to build up some resilience before spacing these lifts back out a bit as I increase the weight.
.
I’ll be staying in the 5-8 rep range I think for at least a month or so, to see how far we can push it. I’m very far from hitting any PRs with this rep range so I’ve got some room to grow here, before dialing back the volume and increasing the intensity.

More squats of course. This time didn’t have my platforms so felt a little odd going back to barefoot. Also thought I’d therefore go for more of a bar squat variation although it was likely somewhere in between the two. Realised I never usually do it but felt good. Obviously depth was a priority. I'm sure if asked, everybody would like bigger legs...however... most people fail in achieving this result because.. . ⚠️ They neglect lower body training too much because they arent willing to go through the pain barrier or they dread the DOMS feeling that a thorough leg session would bring in the days following. . ⚠️ They train the lower body with no structure or balance - such as favouring certain movements and prioritising the 'mirror muscles' such as the quads, rather than hamstrings and glutes. . . . ✅ Here is what I achieved with client @martmalone2102 over 16 weeks. Martin came to me needing to put some size and definition on his legs for an upcoming bodybuilding competition. . . ✅ We managed to add 3 inches to his legs by choosing the correct balance of quad, hamstring, glute & calf exercises, focusing on compound lifts (both bilateral & unilateral) to prompt the highest rate of muscle fibre recruitment delivering the biggest bang for your buck.
We varied rep range each 4 week training block to identify which Martin responded best to. .

We also increased frequency to 3 lower body sessions per week to keep volume high. . . ⚠️ A simple philosophy that works...if you want a muscle to grow..TRAIN IT MORE!! . . !! TAG SOMEBODY WHO NEEDS TO START TRAINING THEIR LEGS!! .

Gym complete and now time for a Dominoes 🤩🤩 ⠀

The one thing I hear this most, which ANNOYS ME THE MOST is... ‘you can’t eat takeaway if you’re going to the gym?’ + the best one is ‘I thought you were a PT... why you eating that?’ Plain answer is because I want too 🙃 ⠀

I am a firm believer in the fact you should eat everything in moderation and if I want to treat myself every now and then I will!

Activating the glutes - especially during squats

What does this mean?
“When ‘squeezing glutes’ ⁣is the goal, we should do it by externally rotating the hips, not by tucking our pelvis under.
.⁣⁣
1) Pretend you have a towel under your feet. It's not spread out and has a couple rolls between your feet.
.
2) the goal is to spread the towel out, by screwing your feet to the floor. If you try this right now, standing and "spreading the towel apart" you'll notice your glutes firing.⁣⁣⁣
