Quando você fala de suas memórias, felizes ou traumáticas, você usa sobretudo a parte esquerda do cérebro, operando a partir do pensamento. Mas não é isso o que a Abordagem Integrada da Mente (AIM), sistematizada pelo psiquiatra e neurocientista Diogo Lara, propõe.

WHEN YOU PLAN TO SUCCEED, YOU WILL! (With client's consent)

Several years ago, I received a request from an individual client for #therapy (back when I was accepting new clients). They came to me after trying out therapy for a brief time before + with a medication prescription for an antidepressant that they didn't respond well to + eventually stopped.
Over the course of our work the client w/ suffered with severe #depressed mood, difficulty relating to others, racial dissociation #trauma, and extremely low self- esteem had a challenging time in almost every aspect of their life.

However, after working with their new medical provider to increase the dosage of another medication they had begun trying, I challenged some of their degrading + self-defeating thoughts in session, self-sabotage + critiqued their dissatisfaction at an unfulfilling job. I also assigned the client affirmations + a book on the unconscious that I recommended would help to counter negative thinking + behaving, which later led them renewing their resume + landing an exciting new position earning 20k more than their previous employment.
Over the past 6 months this client's mood has stabilized, they are traveling throughout the country playing in their hobby, intentionally putting themselves in circles of people who affirm their race + ethnic composition while also expressing more happiness + improved confidence.
This is the result of wanting suffering to come to a healthy end while working for a changed life that you want to live!!!🙏🏼 #TherapyIsSelfWork

Religiously-based psychological abuse of children can involve using teachings to subjugate children through fear, or indoctrinating the child in the beliefs of their particular religion whilst suppressing other perspectives. The psychologist describes this as crushing the child's chance to form a personal morality and belief system; it makes them utterly reliant on their religion and/or parents, and they never learn to reflect critically on information they receive.
Similarly, the use of fear and a judgmental environment (such as the concept of Hell) to control the child can be traumatic.

In continuation of my last post, here are some common image insecurities that exist universally throughout men. It's not just women, us men suffer just as much however it barely gets attention.These concerns are most often connected to a perceived inferiority. The root of the issue can stem from a cultural preference or societal norm that fosters negative thinking about our attractiveness. Alot of this plays into the state of our mental health becoming a bigger problem when brought to surface. We as KINGS have to get better at loving ourselves both physically and eternally.

I've been doing some difficult things lately. Learning what triggers a trauma response and why. Taking my big, thick, I'm-so-tough walls down so I can communicate with the people I love. And, sometimes, putting my fear aside so I can be there for others.
Today, I decided to reward myself with $5 bargain flowers (Dollar Store win 🙌). I put them in a funky vase my mom would've loved. ❤ And I hung my reiki certificates on my bedroom wall (and didn't even measure! OCD? What OCD?! 😂) so, each morning, I'll be reminded that everything is energy. And we have the power to heal it if we want to.

Dear Survivor,
You are SO much more than just a trauma survivor. The fact that you survived what has happened to you is truly amazing but it does not have to define you. You don’t have to be ready for recovery just yet.. but believe me when I tell you that you CAN survive the recovery. If you’re hesitant right now, but know you want to talk with someone some day that’s okay.

Trauma truly messes with our ability to handle stressful situations and attempting to work on trauma when you’ve never been to therapy can be very stressful. For now, consider breaking this daunting task into small, accomplishable steps.
.
Maybe step one for you might be to write down your anxious thoughts in relation to finding a therapist. You can even break those thoughts down to questions such as:
.
“Where do I even begin to find someone?”
“What approach should I even look for?”
“Do I need to look for someone who has specific skills in that area?”
“Are there alternative ways to healing trauma other than mental health therapy?”
.
Pick one question that you’d like to tackle. For example, “where do I find a therapist?”. Make space for this question. Call it into existence. And when you feel called to answer this question, look around you to find the answer. Perhaps you’ll remember that you follow a therapist who frequently posts about this sort of thing... maybe you feel comfortable asking a friend who’s gone to therapy how they found therapy.. hell, you might even just start by Googling your question just to see what pops up. There are many different ways to answer these types of questions.. listen to your wisdom. Listen to what you need and give yourself some self-compassion around taking your time to find the answer. By giving yourself the time and self-compassion you need to start therapy, you’re sending the message to the universe that you deserve those things in your healing experience.

~𝐓𝐡𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐬~ I have been triggered this week (thanks to Mercury in retrograde). I had previously worked through these things, and yet here they are surfacing as though it was yesterday.
During these triggering times, reflection, stillness, meditation and gentle yoga flows do nothing for me! Especially as I recognise these are not new thoughts but looping patterns.

Instead my method of blocking out the world and going “deeper within” is to listen to music LOUD and to MOVE!
I workout in a very masculine way— I lift weights, I sweat and I do all things NOT Yoga.

This may seem contrary to what I usually teach, which is primarily about balancing the body in the feminine with yoga and meditation. But the word “balance” is paramount here—too much time reflecting, feeling, digesting can create loops that get stuck. At some point movement is needed to really shift that gunk.
The wonderful thing that yoga does provide is AWARENESS, not only in regards to your emotions but in terms of when it’s time to move!
If you’re feeling a little stuck this retrograde like you’re living in the past, try some movement 🏋️‍♀️ Happy retrograde folks 😜

In vulnerable states we are so hungry, often desperate, to find healing and help through other people. Typically, when we are reaching out within that toxic system, we are rarely able to find the help we need from those closest to us. They too, are a part of that system.

Because those are the relationships most familiar to us, we do everything in our power to make them work. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, but it is incredibly important that you pay close attention to those who have an investment in your life, to influence you towards further denial.
.
.
It can be subtle. It can be soft and faint in the background. It can be loud and obvious, but someone you don’t want to let go. When doing trauma work, the relationships must be on board with you pursuing health, authenticity, truth, and healing at all cost. If there is a reservation in them, they are not meant to be near your healing parts.
.
.
You may be able to manage them still being in your life, and only you can decide that. However, if you are aware that someone only has intentions of controlling you, and having a stake in your healing, you do not need permission from them or anyone else, to walk away.
.
.
You are becoming well acquainted with pain, and your support system needs to be all in. The more authentic and honest you’ve become, the quicker you will see what your relationships are like. That can be a very painful process, but on the other side you will find your people, and those people will walk you through hell and back while safely holding you the way you’re meant to be held.
.
.
Keep going. Your healing is beautiful. Just...keep...going...💞

👇🏻✨ @margeaux.feldman Reminder: when you use the language of healthy/unhealthy to talk about coping mechanisms, relationships, patterns of behaviour, you’re enforcing a binary of healthy = good and unhealthy = bad.

For those of us living with chronic illness, or what Susan Wendell calls the “unhealthy disabled,” this language of healthy/unhealthy reinforces the belief that there is something wrong with our chronically ill bodies.

Let’s also remember the ways in which healthy/unhealthy is weaponized against fat folks and other bodies that do not fit the norm of the “healthy” body presented to us. ✨
I personally love the language of supportive/unsupportive, as it reminds us that the goal of healing isn’t about our individual health; rather, it’s about mutual care and support. ✨

I let my trauma consume me. ⁣
Like a heavy wet blanket. ⁣
After awhile it became a security. ⁣
Living in shame, sadness and shadows.⁣
But it pulled me down to the depths of a dark sea. ⁣
I was drowning. ⁣
I could see the light above from the sun during the day. ⁣
The shimmer of the moon at night. ⁣
It felt unreachable.⁣
How was I going to come up? ⁣

I couldn't fight my way up. ⁣
I couldn't keep drowning.⁣
So I started whispering, then talking, then screaming.⁣
I started feeling every feeling. ⁣
Letting it out. ⁣
I started with myself. ⁣
Telling myself my truth. ⁣
Not what others had told me for so long that I began to believe. ⁣
I wasn't crazy. ⁣
I wasn't dumb. ⁣
I wasn't ashamed. ⁣
I wasn't dramatizing. ⁣

I started coming to the surface. ⁣
Closer to the light. ⁣
The light that began to shed my heavy blanket and warm me from the cold. ⁣

This week with the students at @kolbeacademy we talked about the processes of taking inventory, sharing with a trusted confidante, and then preparing ourselves to have anything removed that no longer serves us. These things can be daunting, and require courage. Things like shame and trauma can bubble to the surface. To help the process we had some fun with instruments!! As we unlearn “nice” in favor of authenticity, we become aware of just how often we do things to be liked.

We say “yes” when we mean “no.” We don’t tell people when they’ve crossed our limits.

We aren’t comfortable doing anything that would make someone else uncomfortable, even if that means severe discomfort or sacrifice for ourselves.

Our entire focus (that comes from codependency conditioning) is how someone will view us.

Unconsciously, we are being manipulative because we’re looking for a response from someone while also not standing in our truth.

To be authentic is to have boundaries. It means saying no. It means doing things that not everyone “gets” and respecting that reality. It sometimes means being laughed at, or criticized. It sometimes means relationships end. And sometimes it means new ones begin.

The next time you make a choice, take a few minutes to become conscious to your “why.” Are you doing this to be liked? Are you doing this because you feel obligated? Are you doing this because you want someone to perceive you in a certain light?

As children, we depend on our parents or caregivers in a unique way. Our livelihood is in their hands. What we want more than anything is to be seen, heard + loved by them. Yet, because of their own unresolved trauma, few of us get this experience. So we unconsciously learn to betray ourselves to receive love. We perform. We achieve. We rebel. We become who we believe we need to be to be seen. Then, in adulthood we do this in every relationship we have. Our self worth is so low because we don’t trust ourselves with our own word. To heal self betrayal, we need to start to make + keep promises to ourselves. We need to have boundaries. Even if that means being misunderstood: and you will be misunderstood. It’s part of the process. Surrender to it. The most important relationship you’ll ever have is the relationship with yourself. Do the work to trust your own word. As your self worth improves, so does every relationship you have #selfhealers

As survivors we often already think about our bodies as bad and unsafe because of trauma, and sickness amplifies this feeling. Being sick can either bring us further into our bodies (triggering) or dissociate us out of it.

As for attachment, when adults get sick, all of our attachment trauma stuff comes right to the surface if we weren't cared for in the ways we needed. I.e we power through because no one taught us it was ok to rest. OR, we totally fall apart as we were never taught how to manage these feelings. OR we don't care for ourselves in the way we need (cozy clothes, food, water, rest).

If we got the care & love we needed, our attachment system activates looking for someone to give us that support because we associate care with positive feelings, not being scary, and sometimes that person can be us, OR if love was conditional or unsafe, we expect something bad to happen or anyone caring for us wants something in return.

We can be our inner loving parent in these moments, using the self soothing we learned from our loving caregivers in childhood. For folks who didn't get that, that is essentially what we need to learn to do, is be that parent to their child selves who are triggered during sickness.

Sending so much love during cold and flu season, and an extra amount of love to those living with chronic pain, illness, and disability who live this every single DAY.

In the past few weeks, I've REALLY been on the grind. We've been working on rebranding the website (which I can't WAIT for you to see).... and creating some awesome new material to share with my community of unstoppable, strong and beautiful ladies.
However this last weekend I literally stopped. I stayed under the duvet and slept all weekend, savoring some 'me' time. I had to reconnect and find my balance. It was only 2 days but I am back in full force this week and feel totally energized. My mind wanted to push through to strive forward but my soul told me a different story. I'm so glad the soul won out this time. Balance is not something you find. It's something you create. And sometimes you need to make a conscious choice to stop and do what you need to do for you. Trust me, you'll come out the other side feeling much more vibrant and being much more useful to those around you. So step away when you need to..... why? Because you're so worth it girl!🙏

Here’s your permission slip to grieve. You’re ALLOWED to grieve anything that was once in your life that is now not. EVEN IF YOUR LIFE IS BETTER NOW.
Let’s say you moved away from your hometown and had an amazing time. You loved your friends and where you lived and your freedom there. However, you decide to move for your dream job. Your life now is wonderful AND you still feel sad for the life you left behind. IT’S OKAY!

Another example is: You leave a relationship. You move forward with someone new and are very happy and healthy. You’re still allowed to grieve the life you thought you would have with your previous partner. You’re allowed to grieve their family and what you thought your future looked like. IT’S NORMAL AND OKAY.

We don’t talk about this enough and think that grieving someone or something needs to equal death. That’s not true. Often times, people will suffer in silence due to feeling shameful for thinking these things. Let’s normalize grieving people, places and things that are still present, just not in our lives. .
