It was the original Field of Dreams. Baseball in New York has a fascinating history- none of it would be possible without the Polo Grounds. Today the Polo Grounds Towers and Ralph Rangel Houses stand where Manhattan's only true stadium once stood.
________
Now for the sake of this post we will talk about the Polo Grounds built in 1890 and demolished in 1963. Originally built in 1876 as a field for polo, the Grounds found a new home in 1890 after a rebuild. It was unlike any other stadium- a deep centerfield and shallow walls on its sides made it challenging to play ball. But baseball thrived here, home to the New York Giants (you know them as the San Francisco Giants today) until 1957, and to the Yankees during the 1910s until they found their permanent home across the Harlem in 1922. The Mets first played here in 1962, but they don't count. The Polo Grounds sat right on the water in Harlem, a staple of Old New York. Willie Mays's legendary catch in the 1954 World Series was made here, as was the 1951 National League playoff between the Dodgers and the Giants. But the Grounds saw an anticlimactic end; the final decade of its existence was fraught with the stadium slowly falling apart. With the Giants gone for good and the Mets destined to live their lackluster existence in Queens it was demolished in 1964 using the same wrecking ball that destroyed the crown jewel of Brooklyn herself (genuflect), Ebbets Field. In 1968 NYCHA built the Polo Ground Towers on the ashes of the Grounds. Joining the Rangel Houses just up north, it became one of the major cluster complexes of the NYCHA system. They were some of the last major NYCHA towers built in the city. Sadly, many New Yorkers have no idea that where these stoic towers now stand, sports history was made. New York at times recycles its blocks, even if it means breaking hearts and reducing moments to distant memories. Memories that continue to live in a decreasing number of minds.

Goals mean nothing without some action behind them. We prefer less talk and more effort!

Our car was stolen in downtown Minneapolis on Sunday Aug. 18 at around 11:00 PM with our 2 dogs inside and we did not find the car until the next day. After driving around parking lots we found the vehicle with our pit bull left in the back with the windows up and it was too late, she had already passed. Our red and white 2 year old Siberian Husky with blue eyes was also in the vehicle and is now missing. He is not nuetered, has one missing canine tooth on the front right side and has a scratch on his right cheek and slight nerve damage from a car accident that makes the right side of his head look slightly sunken in. We believe it may have been a homeless person because it was parked right next to the salvation army shelter in downtown Minneapolis. If you have seen him or been approached by someone trying to sell him please contact us. We are in so much pain right now and just want our puppy to be safely returned home. We are offering a $500.00 cash reward for information leading to his safe return.

This Guy Right Here!!! My Friend/Brother. I’ve spent many nights watching him work and I’ve learned more than I could ever express. I did my first tour with “GUY” when we were just kids. My 1st ride in his Red M Series BMW speeding up the West Side HYWY like we were at NASCAR.😀The lessons and conversations were life changing. You’re the reason I am who I am. You are definitely without question. THE GREATEST OF ALL TIME!!! Salute To A True Icon TEDDY RILEY. @teddyriley1 #walkoffame #kingofswing #newjackswing #uptown #producer #icon #teddyriley
