ELO “discovery” released in 1979, not quite as big a hit as “out of the blue” but containing five hit singles “shine a little love”, “confusion”, the diary of Horace wimp”, “ last train to London”and the magnificent “don’t bring me down” (sounding like the dandy Warhol’s before the Dandy Warhols sounded like the Dandy Warhols 🤪) it’s just catchy pop song after catchy pop song. I love it!

1966. The Beach Boys. Pet Sounds. The 11th studio album by this American rock band. In 2003, Rolling Stone magazine ranked this album second on its list of the “500 Greatest Albums of All Time”. I just saw the music documentary “Echo in the Canyon” that talked about how this album was so influential to The Beatles in writing Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. Paul McCartney identified this album as the main musical inspiration for their album. Pet Sounds was produced, arranged and almost entirely composed by Brian Wilson with guest lyricist Tony Asher. #thebeachboys #petsounds #vinyl #onmyturntable #60s #nowplaying #nowspinning #vinylcollection #records #recordcollection #record #vinyljunkie #recordoftheday #thorens #albumcover

The Eminem Show is the fourth studio album by American rapper Eminem, released on May 26, 2002 by Aftermath Entertainment, Shady Records, and Interscope Records.

The Eminem Show reached number one in nineteen countries, including Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom and the United States, and was the best-selling album of 2002 in the United States, with 7,600,000 copies sold. Since its release in 2002, the album has sold 10,600,000 copies in the United States and over 30 million copies worldwide. At the 2003 Grammy Awards, it was nominated for Album of the Year and became Eminem's third album in four years to win the award for Best Rap Album.
In 2003, the album was ranked number 317 on Rolling Stone Magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time, and was later ranked at number 84 on the same magazine's best albums of the 2000s decade. The album received critical praise by most music critics and is often debated as Eminem's most personal and best work. Eminem said during an interview with MTV that was recorded on May 25, 2002, that he felt that The Eminem Show was his "best record so far". The Eminem Show was Eminem's first album to be mainly self-produced. This album has been notified as a classic and one of the greatest albums from the 2000s decade. In 2012, Complex Magazine deemed it a "classic" album that "cemented his place as one of the most important figures in rap history". The Eminem Show was ranked as the 56th best album of all time on the Billboard Top 200 Albums of All Time.*

Marika Hackman - Any Human Friend. WOW has it been a while since posting! I've been saying that quite a bit recently but no worries, got tons of pictures taken for future posts and some more motivation. So let's dive right in 🤘 This is English musician Marika Hackman's 3rd studio album Any Human Friend (Loser Edition) and this is truly a killer record. The lead single "I'm Not Where You Are" is so intoxicating and so catchy, upon first hearing the single the chorus was stuck in my head for a couple weeks afterward. No joke! Marika continues to touch on themes with her sharp witted, sexually charged lyrics all over this album. Love, obsession, and the need for some sorta pure connection, for lack of better words. The influence of New Wave pops up plenty of times on the album with piercing electric guitar and synths that jump right at you. Marika turns a deconstructive eye towards the world we live in and the so called traditions that most of humanity has adapted to. Underneath the enjoyable instrumentation lies an exhausted Marika Hackman who's trying to make sense of it all. And I gotta tell ya, it also makes for damn incredible music!

Been totally addicted to these three records by for me quite new found band ”Khruangbin” lately. Without direct musical comparison it reminds me a bit of listening to all time favorites The Booker T & the MG:s actually. Both groups have these obvious songs which seems to be played in a totally natural never ending and unstoppable flow.

THE BEACH BOYS
Pet Sounds
May 1966

Review from Endless Trip
Pet Sounds is one of the very few rock and roll classics to have actually increased in stature with time. It did make a significant impact on the rock world, internally, at the time, though, and is arguably responsible for Sgt. Pepper, as it inspired The Beatles to think of their music as art and to strive for a similarly high standard. I believe that it’s one legendary LP that does in fact live up to the praise. For one thing, it was, at the time, the most sophisticated music ever to masquerade as rock and roll, yet maintained an air of simplicity (‘God Only Knows’ may have been packed with diminished and altered chords, but its main hook was just three notes). A close listener will discover all sorts of musical tricks, whether they be dissonant root notes playing under unexpected chord progressions, remarkable bass playing, or sly shifts in key, but there’s never a moment when the overlying melodies or harmonies are anything other than accessible. It’s notable that two instrumentals that are basically variations on easy listening fit perfectly side by side with the pop songs, they’re a big part of what makes Pet Sounds sound like a coherent work of singular vision. Meanwhile, this band, who had been known for expressing the simplest musical joys, shows remarkable emotional depth. The soul searching in ‘That’s Not Me’, ‘I Know There’s An Answer’ and ‘I Just Wasn’t Made For These Times’ is just the beginning, as the album closes with the saddest song of its time, ‘Caroline No’, the song that stands for everything Brian Wilson is: someone who just could not adjust to the cultural changes surrounding him. His eventual descent into insulated weirdness is no surprise to anyone who has listened closely to Pet Sounds.

Who's Next is the fifth studio album by English rock band the Who.
Who's Next was an immediate success when it was released in August 1971. It has since been viewed by many critics as the Who's best record and one of the greatest albums of all time.
According to Acclaimed Music, Who's Next is the 35th-most ranked record in critics' lists of the all-time greatest albums. In 2003, Rolling Stone ranked it 28th on its list of the 500 greatest albums of all time. The album appeared at number 15 on Pitchfork Media's list of the 100 best records from the 1970s. It was also included in the book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die (2005). The Classic Albums BBC documentary series aired an episode on Who's Next, initially on radio in 1989, and then on television in 1998, which was released in 2006 on DVD as Classic Albums: The Who – Who's Next. That year, the album was chosen by Time as one of their 100 best records of all time. In 2007, it was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame for "lasting qualitative or historical significance".*
