We've all heard it.
Date your partner.
But can I just emphasize on how important that is after kids?
Let's talk. .
.
.
I've talked before, about how this parenting role is consuming.
It's a 24/7 job.
Whether you're a stay at home mama, a working mama or a mama who's going to school (or anything else in between), it's hard.
But you know who else it can be hard on?
Dad.
.
.
.
Parenting doesn't just change the woman.
Sure. Our bodies go through actual physical changes.
But I'm not here to discuss that.
I'm here to talk about that person who you cared enough about (I hope 😉) to make a baby with.
That person who was there before the baby.
He changed too.
Not physically (although maybe if he's a supportive eater 😂).
But this parenting gig is hard on him too.
He worries, too.
He loses sleep, too (maybe not as much). He loves, too.
His perspective has changed too. .
.
.
That's basically a whole new person staring at you.
It's important to still take the time to get to know them.
To hear their voice.
Touch their skin.
See that sparkle.
Preferably without the little terrors present. .
.
.
Matt and I hadn't been on a date in over a year.
Our last date had been for our four year anniversary.
A nice, quick dinner.
It was wonderful, no matter how short.
We talked.
We laughed.
We shared.
We touched.
This last time. It was only a quick coffee date, but let me be honest about how much it was needed.
Let me be honest about how tense our relationship had been. .
.
.
Life is stressful all on its own, nevermind adding in your own army of mini you's.
You have to remember to take the time to love on each other.
I try to put Matt first as often as I can.
Not before the kids. Or myself.
But I go out of my way to remind him how important he is to me.
I want my girls growing up seeing the love between him and I.
Because it was a raging fire before kids, and I want to keep that fire burning.
Because it's healthy.
For us.
For the kids.
For our family.
So please.
Date your partner.
Remember the fire that was there before the kids.
Don't just love on them.
Date them.
Pursue them.

Safe to say Lawson’s following in his brothers footsteps. He had his 18 month check up today and, just like his Brother Cameron at this age, he is 3rd percentile for height 🤷🏼‍♂️ (Cam on left at 18 months and Lawson on right today at 18 months)

Our anniversary isn’t for another few weeks, but that wouldn’t have been possible if Loving v Virginia didn’t go the way it did. Thankful for those who came before us to make it possible for Yves and I to get married twelve years ago (in Virginia, no less). Happy Loving Day, guys 💕. #lovingday #bakerslife #knowyourbaker #biracialcouples #wemakecutebabies

I absolutely love doing life with this man. When we took this photo 4 years ago we had no idea that I was actually pregnant with our first child! And here we are all these years and 3 babies later, with all the craziness, our love has grown even deeper. This man has been my rock!⠀
•⠀

Married folks, do you have a special way that you and your spouse connect? What’s your “thing”?⠀
•⠀
•⠀
Here’s ours... we get all of the kids to bed by 8 and then it’s our time. First, we clean and converse! We clean the kitchen together and have some good talks because forget getting a word in while the kids are awake! 😂 Then, we wine and watch! Netflix that is! It’s totally our thing and our way to connect after long days and I treasure that time.⠀
•⠀
•⠀
It’s simple, but it’s what’s working for us right now and we love it!⠀
•⠀
•⠀
So how do you find a way to connect with your spouse each day? What’s your thing?!
