    What can I say, my life has been my yoga mat recently. I haven’t been sure about being an artist. I haven’t been sure about much really. I feel like I’m bending backwards and all over the place to get to myself, so here are my favorite backbends. .

What if life is providing the difficulty of the asana to breathe through right now? The challenge that I need in order to REALLY feel the breath, to really soften, observe rather than react and really get to my truth? Hopefully what yoga and art have been teaching me. .

    The movements of the spine are forward & backward bending (Flexion & Extension), side bending (Lateral Flexion to the left and the right) & twisting (Axial rotation to the left & the right). The most common mistake people make when trying to increase the flexibility of the spine is to assume that all these movements of the spine uniformly occur at all the various levels & joints of the spine. This is seldom the case. Most people bend more easily at some parts of the spine and are relatively immobile at others. Hatha Yoga practiced without caution & a real understanding (at least intuitive) of spinal Anatomy will often make the situation worse. Those who practice hatha yoga with a lack of this awareness will only continue to bend the more flexible areas until they become ovalax resulting in pain and or injury.     Backbend progress! My shoulders have gotten more flexible!!! My back has gained slme considerable flexibility too and my hip flexors have loosened enough so that my feet can be flat and pointed straight instead of outwards. #wheelpose #contortion #training

Day 1 is all about heart openers! Backbends don’t come easy for me! But I can see so much progress in this photo! ever since I got serious about practicing handstands I find that I can push my chest higher! And I can see that U shape coming along nicely 🙌🏾😊⁣

Yoga aside tonight I’m reconnecting with one of my best friends! I can still call her my best friend even tho we haven’t spoken or seen eachother in 2 years because we’ve always just had that kind of connection...today I’m grateful for that kind of love 💕 ⁣

    Hoping in a wittle late for #CelebrateYourOm but I just couldn’t resist celebrating/supporting these yogis!! ⁣

    Day 1 is all about heart openers! Backbends don’t come easy for me! But I can see so much progress in this photo! ever since I got serious about practicing handstands I find that I can push my chest higher! And I can see that U shape coming along nicely 🙌🏾😊⁣

    TOTALLY DELIGHTED Pauline did her first wheel in years tonight!!!! We did a ton of prep right from the beginning of class and initially when she said “I can’t “ I replied....”urgh no such thing, replace that with I CAN, I WILL, I AM ABLE TO....our whole practice this evening has been geared to wheel pose , just give it a try”

Well, Heeeeey Presto! 
Often the barriers we create in our minds are out dated beliefs or exactly just tricks of the mind, remember it’s a powerful muscle (+ super important to listen to your body to prevent injury or harm) but I knew from the tone in Pauline’s voice and from teaching her the last three years that she could do it #yogisofig #yoga students #gold star #wheelpose #mindovermatter #switchyourbrainoff #listentoyourbody #yogisofinstagram #picoftheday #yogaforeveryone #yogaanywhere

    My heart then and now
2 years (roughly) and the difference I feel in my chest, my heart chakra, my throat chakra is so heart warming to me. 
For me, dhanurasana (wheel pose) is much more of a heart/chest/shoulder opener than a backbend to me...many people think its just a back bending pose but it's so much more. It helps crack your heart open, release built tension and traumas and dramas in your shoulders all the way down to your fingers...its good stuff. 
This is more than just a pose here, these two pictures show me how much progress I've made in opening my heart, my throat, being open, the weight and shit, the traumas and dramas that I wasnt aware were building and storing in my shoulders.  I'm now more able to see and feel when I am storing and have the tools to release it. 
Release it and let it goooooo

    🍃 Sometimes a small progress can make a big difference.

There are only like 7 months between those pictures, but a big difference in the way I got into it and the way I stretched. 
Way more active flexibility rather than just hanging in there. 
My shoulders are always a small progress, but I am so happy with my progress. ———————————————-

Ich dachte mir es wäre eine gute Idee in das Fenster dieser Burgruine zu klettern um ein Rad dort zu machen - bis ich realisiert habe, dass ich auch irgendwie wieder runter kommen muss. Ich habe leichte Höhenangst und ihr könnt mir glauben, dass das Fenster höher war als es in dem zweiten Bild aussieht. 😂

    Throwback to earlier this year working with @lexalee_arts 💛 I’m really looking forward to being back in Germany and restarting our weekly sessions 🤩

This is a really good shoulder and upper back exercise if you already have decent flexibility in those areas (if your shoulders or upper back are tight, it’s hard to get into a really productive position). Give it a try and see how it feels! Just make sure to push your shoulders to your ears and keep your arms straight 💯

SIDE NOTE: I’m not ready to announce details about Germany just yet, but I AM going back. Once I have complete details I’ll be sending a newsletter!

    It’s the holiday season and I’ve seen 4 thousand posts on taking a break from social media to recharge. I don’t think the platforms are the problem.

Perhaps if we weren’t so attached to the things in the first place, we wouldn’t need this absurd new “social media detox”. We need to find ways of integrating these new tools in our lives so they end up serving our creative outlets, our work, and our goals. Not the other way around. 
For those of you that ask me, I don’t know anything about the “algorithm” and I don’t care. I train, film and put it up, whether I’m on holiday, or middle of the work week. If people like it, they like it. If not that’s perfectly fine.

    🎉ONE YEAR PROGRESS!🎉 Ahhh check out this awesome backbend progress made by @andreapicollo_ 🤩 Andrea started on my Targeted Back Flexibility online training exactly one year ago, and here’s his result! I know I often post the fast progress that students make, but this is a really good example of what most people could realistically accomplish in a year with a comprehensive flexibility program (and some hard work, of course). Andrea even liked the training so much that he decided to add a leg flexibility program 💯 Great work, Andrea! And I look  forward to seeing even more progress 😃
