Located in the Karaburma district, just east of old town #Belgrade, is a tall #concrete apartment #tower. Originally referred to as simply "Stambena kula" (Residential Tower), it's unusual shape of multiple alternating triangular bump-outs along each of the hexagonal building's corners earned it the nickname "Toblerone", after the famous triangular Swiss chocolate bar. This dynamic arrangement of the facade, bordering on chaotic, was one of the earlier attempts in Yugoslav experimental #architecture to achieve a more sculpturally "expressive" and "artistic" building that defied traditional architectural concepts. This 17 story high rise was originally built as a housing tower for professors and faculty members of the University of Belgrade, but other types of residents were allowed in after the Yugoslav-era. The "Toblerone" Tower stands as a #landmark of the neighborhood and is located at a large traffic circle at Mije Kovačevića 9, right next the Theological Faculty.
