Camping at Madulsima, something for everyone looking to try camping ❤️ An aerial video of the camping location 📸 from the awesome gallery of @ashan_travelphotographer an avid traveler with a beautiful experience gallery and speaks for clean and responsible travel 🇱🇰 . The full video can be found at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nDKCTzzPqYE ❤️ . At over 4200ft in elevation its 5km from the Cocogalla Estate, its a trek for those who can rough it out but love a beautiful sunrise 😍 The campsite looks dry however there are patches of grass that can hide plenty of leaches during the wet seasons ⚠️ There are many camping locations in the island however the lack of proper trash disposal has lead the the degradation of the surroundings. Along with the general advice to avoid single use plastic while traveling its helpful to cleanup and carefully remove trash to dispose of properly ❤️🇱🇰 . ⛰ The Dorapada drop from the Pitamaruwa Mini Worlds End is the border which separates Badulla and Moneragala. Its about 12m North of Madulsima and 5km north of Metigahatenna town 😍 . Follow @exploresrilanka for more travel destinations ❤️🇱🇰 #ExploreSriLanka #Pitamaruwa #MiniWorldsEnd #Madulsima #Dorapada #SriLanka . 🗺 : https://bit.ly/PitamaruwaMiniWorldsEnd . Request : Do not leave behind plastic / glass / paper / food at the site and please be sure to bring back everything you take. If you see any trash thrown around, could you take a few minutes to clean it up ☺️🙏🏻❤️

The Steep slopes of Yahangala ❤️ a view of the trail up to the top of the rock 📸 a journey taken by @gihan_shanaka 😍 a drone operator and an avid trekker in 🇱🇰 . ⛰ The route is full of steep climbs and would require decent equipment to trek adventurously. Its a long walk and also requires an early start to catch transport where required. Both camping sites at Kehelpathdoruwegala and Yahangala are cleaner than most of sites 👣 please help maintain it🧗🏻‍♀️ . A beautiful waterfall placed inside a private estate in Nidangoda, Kalupahana ❤️ Nidangoda Ella is one of the Galapitiyaya Estate Waterfalls 📸 love the photo by @kavinda1993 ⛺️ an avid travel account 👣 . The streams of the Nagadowa Falls and Uduwara falls both join up downstream to form a waterway which flows through the estate. The Nidangoda Waterfall is formed on its way to join Weli Oya. Cascading through a rocky crevace with a stone wedged in between, it falls into a shallow pool surrounded by many slipery rocks ❤️ . The private estate has a Holiday Bungalow @galapitiyaya which is known by holiday makers for being able to host small groups. Walking on the lizards back ❤️ and in the backdrop, the Hanthana Mountain Range 📸 Love this recent journey by @salith_harsha 😍 . A rock ridge known as Lizards Back or locally known as "Katusu Konda". This ridge is a part of the Hanthana Mountain Range, which is located a few km south of Kandy, however the scenic route requires travel further South 〽️ Most start the hike half way south and then walk to either end of the range. The most famous starting location is a small town named Sarasavigama (12 km from Kandy train station) ❤️🇱🇰 . Waterways of the Knuckles Conservation Forest ❤️ please read everything below 📸 photo from an avid trekker and travel enthusiast @salith_harsha 🙏🏻 . These beautiful highlands, catchment areas and buffer zone are threatened and not too well protected due to the lack of resources. Its not threatened by the everyday nature lover or your daily trekker / camper. Its threatened by human activities such as encroachment, illegal logging, land clearing, tea planting and cardamom cultivation, etc... 💔 . According to the IUNC, "the conservation includes 1,033 species of plants, with 15% of them being endemic, and 247 species of vertebrates, with over a 25% of them being endemic and threatened as per the IUCN Red List classification.... it also constitutes 30% of the watershed forest of the Mahaweli river catchment, the largest river in Sri Lanka." - https://bit.ly/2TMruci . The forest cover map submitted to UNREDD in 2017 has detailed data, including graphical info on identified deforestation using advanced technology 💔 It can be found here - https://bit.ly/UNREDD2017 - if anyone is going to do a detailed study this would be a good place to start 👣 . ⚠️ If you see any suspicious activities in a reserve, please report it to the Forest Department +94112866616 ⚠️ . What is a Halophyte? Read below to know! ❤️ A memory of Mirissa from the Sky 📸 Yet another beautiful view in Mirissa by @sahan__perera 🙏🏻 . Coconut trees are halophytes. A halophyte is a salt-tolerant plant that grows in soil or waters of high salinity, coming into contact with saline water through its roots or by salt spray 🌴 . Relatively few plant species are halophytes - perhaps only 2% of all plant species. The large majority of plant species are glycophytes, which are not salt-tolerant and are damaged fairly easily by high salinity 🏝 . Halophytes can be classified in many ways. According to Stocker (1933), it is mainly of 3 kinds; Aqua-halines, Terrestro-halines and Aero-halines 🎶🏵️ . Sunrise on Pettigala Rock in Wewegama, Kandy ❤️ For a 360 degree view of Digana and the Victoria reservoir 📸 A beautiful capture by @sankha_k and his stunning collection of Sri Lanka 🇱🇰🙏🏻 . Looking eastward over Victoria Reservoir is quite a beautiful sight. Its a short steep climb through a lot of foliage through a small peak also known as Bambaragala. Known for its ancient temple. However its not too challenging and almost everyone can attempt it. Whats worth is the view. Tip : the best views are the sunrise, since the reservoir is in the North, East & South, while theres land on the West 😍 . Follow @exploresrilanka for more travel destinations ❤️ #ExploreSriLanka #Pettigala #PettigalaRock #VictoriaReservoir #Kandy #SriLanka #Ceylon 🇱🇰 . When in Kandy, visit this scenic location 22.Km east of Kandy train station. There are 3 scenic routes which will take less than an hour (when theres no traffic in Kandy) The Kandy-Mahiyangane-Padiyatalawa road is the best route 🇱🇰 . At the base of this rock is also a very old temple called the Bambaragala Purana Rajamaha Viharaya. Please maintain the peacefulness of this area and dont disturb the meditating monks 🙏 . Elephants are brilliant swimmers ❤️ but have you heard of the elephant that was found swimming 14km at sea? 📸 gorgeous image of a grazing elephant by @gautham.mk 😍 a gallery with a very interesting collection of wildlife photos! . Several years ago, in 2017, the Sri Lanka Navy spotted an elephant swimming about 14km off the northeast coast. The rescue operation took the Navy 12 hours or hard work. Eventually the tired elephant was handed over to the Wildlife Department 🙏 . Its believed that the elephant was dragged out into the ocean while crossing the Kokkilai lagoon. The lagoon lies in between two stretches of a Kokkilai wildlife sanctuary. The Sanctuary is placed between Mullaitivu and Pulmoddai 🐘 - Source - https://bit.ly/ERescue1 . "Navy officials intervened, claiming the swimming would have caused the elephant to burn too much energy to survive and that the prolonged exposure to saltwater could have damaged the elephants skin." - @NaGeo 🐘 . .
