Amanita musciara subsp. flavivolvata by @kallampero
Natural Nobels Christmas Tree Farm, Estacada, Oregon, USA
https://mushroomobserver.org/227556
.
What can be said about this iconic, spellbinding species that hasn't already been said a thousand times or more? The mushroom of #AliceInWonderland and #SuperMarioBrothers, and of so many children's books and fairytales and fables before that. The putative #soma of the rig vedas and ancient hinduism, and at the heart multiple shamanic traditions from across Siberia and northern Europe. Controvertially hypothesized* to have been the central sacrament of certain proto-Christian mystic sects, and almost certainly the source of the entire #SantaClaus mythology. If only half of A. muscaria's purported ethnomycological history were true, it would still be among the most influential and intriguing organisms to have accompanied us in our cultural journey throughout time. Despite seldom focusing on fungi this large or fleshy these days, Amanita muscaria remains my single favorite species of fungus (but don't tell the rest of them I said so!).
.
Both the species epithet, 'muscaria' (from 'musca,' Latin for fly) and the common name,#FlyAgaric, harken back to its apparent use in household insect control, dating to at least as far back as the 13th century. The powdered mushrooms would be mixed into milk, a bowl of which is then left on a table or windowsill, attracting flies with its aroma, who either drown in the broth or drop dead beside it. This may have played a role in the widespread misapprehension of A. muscaria being far more dangerous than it actually is. There are no known fatalities from A. muscaria consumption in over 100 years of toxicological record keeping, and in some places, the mushroom is regularly prepared for the table, usually by blanching in several changes of boiling water. No matter how you slice it, A. muscaria is about as fascinating as fungi get!

I’ve been unplugged for a few days while my Dad and Step mum got married.
Myself, hubby and children all had important roles to play. I took the opportunity to take a small break from things before we hit the busy period (Christmas).
Yep, Christmas designs will be back very soon. ———
This is my little Frankie in her beautiful Flower girl dress. .

The bottle that started it all... let me take you back to Christmas 2018. My family are all sharing presents and it’s your classic Christmas cliché. I open a present bag from my auntie (@clareshillan) in which I find this bottle of zoflora.
At the time I turned and asked why tf she’s given us all disinfectant without realising how much impact this bottle would have on my life.
I hadn’t heard of Mrs Hinch yet, in fact, if someone had told me cleaning was a trend I would’ve laughed but on one Sunday afternoon a couple of months later, I was bored, read the instructions on the back and tried it out.
Holy sh*t.
I refuse to disclose exactly how many surfaces reeked of cranberry and orange after that afternoon but it’s fair to say, it was a lot.
As you can see now, I’m a hoarder for the stuff to the point my friends gift me it on special occasions (which is really sad but ah well) and it comforts me on my bad days.
The little bottle of cranberry and orange is long empty now but I keep it as a little reminder of the day I discovered cleaning.
Some people will try and tell you that Zoflora and a spray bottle won’t solve your problems, but to that I say, f*ck off, yes it can. ...I also hoard the pink stuff now I’ve discovered Mrs Hinch, but that’s a story for another day 😉
What do you hoard? Have you got any good/bad habits? Let me know!! #selfshamesunday #zoflora @zoflora @lovestardrops #stardrops #thepinkstuff #cranberryandorange #mrshinch #hinchhaul #zoflorahoarder #cleaning #clean #tidy #tidying #christmas #storytime #funny #hincharmy #queenofclean #hoarder #organised #organisation #kitchen #student #studenttips #tips #cleaningtips
