Sunset in the Cotswolds, England. Arlington Row in Bibury is owned by the National Trust. Originally built in the 14th century as a monastic wool store, it was converted in the 17th century into a row of weavers’ cottages. The cottages are now lived in by the National Trust. Bibury is riddled with rumours of ghosts. Faces at the Mill windows. A grey lady who drifts along the path beside Rack Isle. One of the Bibury hotels even has a ghost cat. And there’s the sad old story of a miller’s young wife tempted to infidelity, then locked out by her husband on a night of snowstorm to freeze to death on the doorstep. The cloth produced in the wool store was sent to Arlington Mill on the other side of Rack Isle. The cloth was then hung on wooden timber frames on Rack Isle after being degreased at Arlington Mill. .

The Round House (also known as The Toll House) at Stanton Drew in the English county of Somerset was built in the 18th century. It has been designated as a Grade II listed building.
The two-storey thatched building is hexagonal in plan It is on the road between Chew Magna and Pensford and close to the bridge over the River Chew.
It was built around 1793 by the West Harptree Turnpike Trust and served as a toll house when turnpikes were in use. A pouch hung on a hook over the door was used by coach drivers to pay the toll.
In the 1850s it was home to the Burridge family who acted as the toll collectors until the Turnpike Trust was abolished in 1876. From 1896 to the 1940s was lived in by Frederick Rich. .

When Dr Dolittle was filmed in the village in 1967, this property was the doctor's own house. It is called the Dower House and was built in the 17th century.
The village is much loved by film-makers.
Some of the numerous films that have used Castle Combe as a location include: Dr Dolittle (1967), Stardust (2007), Wolfman (2010), Warhorse (2011) as well as episodes of TV programmes.

The Cotswolds, England
The red telephone box, a telephone kiosk for a public telephone designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott in 1924 , is a familiar sight on the streets of the United Kingdom, Malta, Bermuda and Gibraltar.
The traditional British red telephone kiosk can still be seen in many places throughout the UK, and in current or former British colonies around the world. The colour red was chosen to make them easy to spot.
From 1926 onwards, the fascias of the kiosks were emblazoned with a prominent crown, representing the British government.
The Cotswolds were designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty 1966. The official area of the Cotswolds 2,038 square kilometres (787 sq mi). It stretches from the border regions of South Warwickshire and Worcestershire, through West Oxfordshire and Gloucestershire, and takes in parts of Wiltshire, Bath and North East Somerset in the south.

You can’t help but think this village was built for Christmas.
In this photo is the hobbit-like packhorse bridge over the Bybrook river, taken in February 2019.
Crossing the Bybrook into Castle Combe, a ghostly miller is sometimes seen hurrying home to the millers’ cottages to the right.
Castle Combe has stunning architecture of medieval buildings built from the wealth generated by the wool trade. With no new buildings built since the 17th century, this is the village time forgot.

Like a Fairytale Palace in the snow.
The Manor House is a 14th century country house hotel in Castle Combe.
During World War II, the New Zealand Forestry Officers had the Manor House as their headquarters. In 1947, the owner of the Castle Combe estate sold the houses of the estate and the Manor House became a country club.
It was also the home of English geologist and political economist George Poulett Scrope throughout the 19th century. He lived at the Manor House from the start of his first marriage until the death of his wife Emma (the great-granddaughter of Sir Robert Long), in 1866; his wife's family had owned the land since the 14th century. .

Snowy morning in Castle Combe, Wiltshire England.
Taken in February 2019, I arrived at early in the morning and it snowed the whole time I was there, I was worried I would not get home. The village takes its name from the 12th-century castle which stood about 1/3 of a mile to the north. Today the castle no longer exists, but its original site is about half a mile to the north west of the Manor House, situated on a natural promontory overlooking the Bybrook valley. .

Merry Christmas everyone.
Snowy morning in Castle Combe, Wiltshire England.
Taken in February 2019.
The 14th-century market cross, erected when the privilege to hold a weekly market in Castle Combe was granted, stands where the three principal streets of the lower village converge. Next to the cross is one of Castle Combe's two village pumps . Small stone steps near the cross were for horse riders to mount and dismount. Little has changed in Castle Combe since the 15th century, there are no street lamps or TV aerials and no new houses have been built for 400 years.

Winter evenings, a cottage for Christmas. A tiny English cottage in the town of Bradford-on-Avon, Wiltshire, England.
The history of the town can be traced back to Roman origins. It has several buildings dating from the 17th century, when the town grew due to the thriving English woollen textile industry.
The centre of the town was built around a ford across the river Avon, which is the origin of the town's name “Broad-Ford". In Norman times then ford was replaced with a stone bridge that still stands today. The Norman side is upstream, and has pointed arches; the newer side has curved arches. It was originally a packhorse bridge, but widened in the 17th century by rebuilding the western side. On 2 July 1643 the town was the site of a skirmish in the English Civil War, when Royalists seized control of the bridge on their way to the Battle of Lansdowne. .

Derelict and ruined, barracks. Dinorwic Quarry employed over 3000 men at its peak and many of these workers lived locally or caught the quarry train on the Padarn Railway to work each day.  However men from Anglesey, in particular, required to lodge or barrack at the quarry each week.  They left home early on a monday morning and returned on saturday afternoon. Provisions for the week were carried on their journey.  One of their homes for the week was the Anglesey Barracks high up in the quarry.  Anglesey Barracks consists of two identical blocks of 11 units facing each other across an unmade street.  Each unit has a living room with a fireplace and a bedroom with space for four men.  Amenities were few - no electricity, soft mattresses, toilets or running water, just basic furniture and little else.  Windows were provided only onto the street.  This way of life survived until 1948 when an unannounced visit by the local Public Health Inspector saw the barracks condemned as unfit for human habitation.  After that the quarrymen from Anglesey travelled daily by bus.  The, now derelict and ruined, barracks may still be viewed today by following the marked paths in the Padarn Country Park at Llanberis.

A frosty autumn morning at Stourhead, Wiltshire, England.
Stourhead is a (2,650-acre) estate at the source of the River Stour near Mere, Wiltshire, England. The estate includes a Palladian mansion, the village of Stourton, gardens, farmland, and woodland. Stourhead is part owned by the National.
The Stourton family had lived at the Stourhead estate for 500 years until they sold it to Sir Thomas Meres in 1714. His son, John Meres, sold it in 1717 to Henry Hoare, son of wealthy banker Sir Richard Hoare. The original manor house was demolished and a new house, one of the first of its kind, was designed by Colen Campbell and built by Nathaniel Ireson between 1721 and 1725.
Over the next 200 years, the Hoare family collected many heirlooms, including a large library and art collection. In 1902, the house was gutted by fire but many of the heirlooms were saved, and the house was rebuilt in a nearly identical style.
The last Hoare family member to own the property, Sir Henry Hugh Arthur Hoare, gave the house and gardens to the National Trust in 1946, one year before his death.
