The Bhagavad Gita, which loosely translates to the "The Lord's Song" is a dialogue between Prince Arjuna and his charioteer Lord Krishna.
.
One of yoga's most important texts, this epic 700 verse poem starts at the beginning of a battle between cousins, the Pandavas and the Kauravas. Prince Arjuna, one of the Pandava brothers, struggles with the idea of going to battle against former friends, family and bannermen. Lord Krishna advises Arjuna to do what is right and follow his dharma - his duty.
.
This text has many lessons in it, from the idea of following your own path, mental discipline and most notably, how yoga can help us make decisions based on our dharma.

Today is World Mental Health Day, a chance for us to talk openly about our mental health and support one another.
.
Mental health is just as important as physical health and, according to the NHS, one in four adults experiences Mental illness. We must remove the stigma of living with mental health issues.
.
Keep an eye out on our Instagram stories where we will share facts and ask questions about mental health to share with the community.
.
Comment below your words of encouragement to the rest of the triyoga community! We'll start - kindness is contagious. 😊

Vrksa means tree.
.
Vṛkṣāsana is a symbol of growth and strength. Just like a tree, it is rooted and grounded, cultivating patience, stability and adaptability.
.
This is often one of the earliest poses we learn to help improve balance. Generally, the higher the foot up the leg, the more challenging it is to balance.
.
Here triyoga teacher Emily Valente shows us a traditional tree pose with a few variations.

Adho Mukha Svanasana
Adho means downward.
Mukha means face.
Svana means dog.
.
Downward facing dog also known as Adho Mukha Svanasana is probably one of the most recognisable poses.
.
Here, triyoga teacher Durga Devi @durgadyoga shows us a few variations, including blocks and leg raises, to suit different students and change the intensity.
.
Got tight hamstrings? Try bending the knees slightly and lifting the heels off the floor.

We are proud to announce that world-renowned ashtanga yoga teacher David Swenson will be one of the amazing teachers leading our Give Back Yoga @givebackyogafoundation charity event on 20th November at the Oval Space. Here, David Swenson shares why giving back is so important and how it affects us as a whole. Read the full quote below.👇
.
“The word Yoga translates to Unity. This simple word means that there is an interconnectedness within all things…
.
This unity is the building block of our universe both micro and macrocosmically. In terms of humanness, if we receive, we should give! That is a basic tenant of decency and compassion. There is a great need in the world today to focus our attention on the imbalances surrounding us in nature, human interactions with each other and our impact on the planet.
.
The positive energy we receive from practising yoga may be deposited into our personal prana account and hoarded for selfish gain or shared in myriad ways. Without giving back are we really doing yoga?
.
Here is a saying that I like: “The real joy of living is that which comes from giving!”
.
Give Back Yoga, co-founded by Beryl Bender Birch, is a shining example of sharing the joy, energy and positive juice we experience from the wonderous and glorious opportunity we have to practise yoga.”
.

This is the Hindu deity Ganesha, also known as The Lord of Beginnings, The Remover of Obstacles, and The Deity of Good Fortune.
.
Perhaps most recognisable because of his elephant head, there’s a story behind how he got it.
.
Ganesha was the son of Hindu deities Shiva and Parvarti. Shiva was away on travels and Parvarti, growing lonely, created Ganesha from sandalwood, turmeric and her own flesh.
.
One day Parvarti wanted to take a bath and asked her son to not permit anyone entry. Her husband Shiva returned, and obeying the instruction of his mother, Ganesha refused Shiva entry. Having never met Ganesha, Shiva grew angry at the refusal to pass and so cut off his head.
.
Parvati, realising what her husband had done, explained that this was their only son and that Shiva had killed him.
.
Shiva, full of regret at what he had just done, cut off the head of the first living thing he crossed paths with, an elephant – and used it to replace the head of his son, Ganesha.
